The BJFE Emerald Green Distortion Machine, has changed my perception of overdrives. I've always loved fuzz, finding the dynamics and response of the transistors compliment my amp, but I've never got along with overdrive pedals, until I tried this one. The EGDM manages to melt into the base tones of my AC30 like nothing else I've tried. It has all the characteristics of a cranked Vox. The kind of compression usually only heard from cranked EL84s, the bloom of vocal mids, the warm and slightly sagging bottom end and the chiming bite on top. Making a Vox sound like a Vox is one thing, but giving my 15w s/s Fender practice amp those same qualities is something else entirely and with some careful tweaking the Emerald Green delivers. Everything from warm, clean 'Brit-Invasion' jangle to full on Brian May crunch with those blistering harmonics synonymous with Vox. Just wanted to share my experience and hopefully turn someone on to a rather unique flavour of overdrive. Whether to push and compliment an EL84 type amp, or bring some EL84 flavour to an entirely different kind of amp, the Emerald Green comes highly recommended. Pedal Clips
Caevan O'Shite Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Man, someday I'm gonna have to have that guy Bjorn do a pedal or two for me... As for the EGDM, I wonder how that'd play with my little 4xEL84-powered Carvin Vintage 33, which I've had a love/hate relationship with... Teahead Posted June 19, 2006 Author Posted June 19, 2006 Here\'s a good example of a Treble Booster. The Emerald Green sounds like a cranked Vox on steroids. It really adds a modern, almost 'Matchless' edge to the tone of my amp. I went to the rehearsal space today with a dozen pedals and played only the Emerald Green for 75% of the time. Pedal Clips

Teahead Posted June 25, 2006 Author Posted June 25, 2006 Sorry I missed that question first time around, Caevan! It's pretty much intended to mimic the overdriven characteristics of an EL84, so I'd say you have a pretty good chance of it melting into the sound of your Carvin in a pleasing manner. The Voice control helps to shape the mids and compression and is useful when matching with your amp's existing tone. Be warned that it does have some serious gain available, the kind of break up which is well suited to an already overdriven amp lives below 9'o'clock on the dial, beyond that it gets blisteringly hot. It doesn't sound bloated though, useable tones right through the range of all controls. Here are a couple of clips I recorded of the BJF Emerald Green into my Vox AC30tbx. I tried to represent bypassed and effected tones, pick up changes and the results of rolling off guitar volume and tone... This clip with the Normal Channel. BJF into Top Boost clip. Another using the Top Boost Channel. If anyone fancies hearing more just follow the 'pedal clips' link in my sig. I would have posted these in the master music thread, but they really aren't 'music' at all, more of a demonstration of the pedals tones than anything else. Cheers... Tea. Pedal Clips

II) What was it that Billy Corgan- of the Smashing Pumpkins- said about getting usable distortion, something like: "Hey, manufacturers, please make me something that I don't have to turn all the way up or break before it sounds distorted enough, for once?"...
