  1. Night photography: Light painting Joshua Tree’s ghosts I will describe how I light painted the Ryan Ranch ruins in Joshua Tree National Park. Hopefully it inspires you to try light painting yourself! https://photofocus.com/photography/night-photography-light-painting-joshua-trees-ghosts/
  2. Joshua Tree National Park in California is where I first began doing night photography. That's where it all stated, messing around and not having any clue what I was doing with a film camera, trying to take photos of a meteor shower. I frequently refer to this place as my spiritual home for night photography. It's easily one of my favorite places to photograph. These photos are all of Ryan Ranch. I returned here to photograph again. I had not quite nailed my photos from last time, so I wanted to really get them down this time. What places inspire you the most? Where did you begin doing photography?
  3. Wanna visit Joshua Tree and hang out for the reception of my museum exhibition? Of course you do. Who doesn't wanna be there? Abandoned Planes Trains and Automobiles An Exhibition by Ken Lee Hi-Desert Nature Museum 57090 29 Palms Highway Yucca Valley CA Opening night 12 January 2024 5-7 pm
  4. Night Photography Workshop: Joshua Tree and Borrego Springs! It'll be Milky Way season!! Joshua Tree and Borrego Springs. That's right. Otherworldly landscapes, Joshua Trees, weird-looking rocks and mountains...and super-large dinosaur sculptures in the desert. You can't say no. https://www.capecodworkshops.com/jt
  5. This Is The End ~~~~~ The End. Fisheye. Night time. Light painting. All at the end of the world. Or at least, Wonder Valley. These enormous letters created by Jack Pierson acknowledge just that. I ran out to take night photos of this art installation curated by High Desert Test Sites. This art is of course entitled "The End of the World". I get asked if I saw cats pushing things off the edge of the earth. I'm sorry to say no. HDTS is a non-profit organization that supports immersive experiences and exchanges. I illuminated the scene with a handheld light during this long exposure night photo. ~~~~~ (Plate 0553) Nikon D750/Rokinon 12mm f/2.8 fisheye lens. 105 seconds f/8 ISO 200. May 2022.
  6. Foreign Body ~~~~~ Many of you have strong opinions about art installations in the desert. This night photo shows the work "Foreign Body". This is an art installation of a gigantic female figure created by Varga Weisz through High Desert Test Sites, located in Wonder Valley near Joshua Tree National Park. This sculpture depicts a woman who has been pierced by a tree, representing nature and its slow mutilation by humans. I must say that it often doesn't feel very slow. And yes, the tree looks rather phallic. Perhaps intentionally? HDTS is a non-profit organization that supports immersive experiences and exchanges. I illuminated the scene with a handheld light during this long exposure night photo during a nearly full moon. ~~~~~ (Plate 7528) Pentax K-1/28-105mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. 57 seconds f/8 ISO 400. May 2022.
