Nothing gets you women like having one! :D

  2. Yeah, that's usually an awkward situation. lol

Spoken by the girl next door from my childhood. I was playing a bar out of state and she happened to be there with a group of her friends. During a break she walked up on the stage, reached across the Hammond to grab me by the collar and pull me close, and then said those frightening words before planting a big kiss on the lips. The band thought it was funny. The girl I had taken to the job was not amused.

  3. Favorite brand anything would be silly. Unless you're an endorsee or you're rich, you ought be looking for these qualities:

    - sound

    - features

    - reliability

    - price

and absolutely disregarding whether the brand name you've chosen meets the approval of the herd.

My current kit's Yamaha, but I've owned Ludwig and PureCussion in the past and got good use from them. And my current cymbals come from Sabian, Paiste, Zildjian, Atlas and Wuhan.

  4. He has five hands - only two are visible though :D I'm lucky to have these guys playing with me; I'm definitely the weak link in the group. Which is a GOOD thing as it drives me to improve my playing :)

Why VHS? Because I can simply turn it on and let it record the full session. I hate futzing around with recording equipment when it's time to play. I just have to make sure the guitar gets on there next time.

I'm nothing without my sequencer... yes, sorry. I wish I could have any funk chops... but you do :thu:

    Why on VHS??

  5. I had a few of the same complaints even before I bought it - but at $500 new (at that time), it was too good a deal to pass up. Design and construction are very good IMO.

With some tweaking you can get a decent-but-not-great Rhodes sound from the Vintage Keyboards expansion card. The Wurlys are pretty good on that card too, as is one of the Clavs. And if you're willing to really play with the programming, the card has one or two useful Hammond sounds.

As for the standard onboard sounds, the solo cello is pretty good and one of the solo horns is nice. The grand piano is quite good. There are plenty of other useful sounds there.

a real ugly keyboard instead of my beautiful

QS7. But guess what. . .this ugly keyboard sounds

twice as good as that beautiful, sleek, black. . .

terrible sounding paperweight. I mean the basses

were awful. The piano was OK. The brass was so

cheesy all I needed was some macaroni. For real

though. . .buy something that sounds current. Like the Emus, Tritons, Yamaha Motif or S80, Fantom, etc.

  7. Thanks Steve! You have to understand I was a bass in choir - when I say my vox ain't cut out for that range I mean it! The original actually has a different melody - I modified it to notes that work within the scale but that I could hit.

And the drums are OK I guess. It's sloppy, considering that a decade ago I was a professional drummer LOL The synth is a JP-8000 which, with some tweaks, can sound quite Minimoogish http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif The lead gtr sound ain't great but I liked the feel of that practice take so I left it there.

I'm really impressed by your multi-instrument skills...the drums are especially suprisingly good. What kind of synth was that in the beginning?

  8. Hi all,

I'm Mike, and I'm now addicted to keyboards http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif And just for today, I'm gonna indulge that addiction!

I was a pro drummer for over a decade - club date, jazz, rock, etc. I also played lead guitar in some original acts, and bass in a couple of bands. But I always loved keys, especially Hammond organs. So when I got a house a few years ago and finally had space, the first thing I did was get a Hammond! I now have an A100, along w/ some other fun toys. The latest addition is a Roland JP8000, which being a retro prog- & heavy rock fan I use to emulate Minimoogs & whatnot. Check out my website:

The next addition will probably be a Yamaha P80 piano. It's light, sounds great (esp. Stevie Wonder-type tremolo Rhodes) and feels great IMO. Wish it had a clavinet sound though; then I'd be able to lose the Nanopiano. PEACE
