SDE is putting out other special surround blu-ray releases, might want to check them out occasionally. Wandering OT, I'm out.

I gave the Gilbert O'Sullivan release a swerve but the xPropaganda album is superb. Next up is Hormonally Yours by Shakespears Sister which should be fun!

Other SW mixes of note are Ultravox's 'Vienna', Roxy Music's first album, TFF 'Seeds of Love', Simple Minds 'Sparkle In The Rain', Marillion's 'Misplaced Childhood', as well as all his own solo material and Porcupine Tree.

Ultravox's Rage In Eden is being reissued with a SW 5.1 mix in September.

I only found out about this a couple of days ago but the brilliant Eliot Scheiner 5.1 mix is being reissued on SACD in Japan. They've added four extra tracks which only feature on the stereo CD layer. These tracks were unfinished songs from the Toto IV era but were completed a few years ago.

The 7" sized pack also includes some Toto related ephemera, apparently. CDJapan seems to be the best place to get this. Mine should be here Tuesday.

I've wanted the original SACD for so long now that this was an instabuy!

Press release blurb follows... (spelling and grammar mistakes from original!)

"TOTO IV-Sacred Sword 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition" is a SACD multi-hybrid board with a 7-inch paper jacket that additionally contains the 5.1ch sound source released for the first time in Japan and four valuable bonus tracks for the first CD in Japan. Will be released at. Relive the 1982 time with a luxurious inclusion privilege that reproduces many memorable items!

"TOTO IV-Sacred Sword 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition" Product development photos including inclusion benefits

This year 2022 is the 40th anniversary of the release of the historical masterpiece "TOTO IV-Sacred Sword", which is synonymous with TOTO, which had a great influence on the formation of the sound image of <City Pop>. Furthermore, this year marks the 45th anniversary of the formation of TOTO, and at the same time, 30 years after the death of the legendary famous drummer Jeff Pokaro, who was also the spiritual pillar of the band (sunset on August 5, 1992). For such a big memorial year, it has been decided to release "TOTO IV-Sacred Sword 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition", which is an original project in Japan.

"TOTO IV-Sacred Sword" is a high-level fruit of innovative and detailed studio work backed by high technology and sense, wide musicality against the background of R & B, and sophisticated urban sound making. The fourth studio album in total (announced in 1982). Universal masterpieces such as "Africa" and "Rosana" (2nd in the US), which became the band's first US No. 1 single, were born and sold over 12 million copies worldwide. At the 25th (1982) Grammy Awards, TOTO's masterpiece and monument, which won the most major six categories in history at the time, including the Best Album Award and the Best Record Award.

The SACD multi-hybrid disc is used for "TOTO IV-Sacred Sword 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition", which was originally decided to be released in Japan. The SACD layer contains 5.1ch surround sound and 2ch stereo sound by DSD mastering from the original analog master. The 5.1ch audio, which will be released for the first time in Japan, is overwhelmed by the finely structured sound that pops out well separated from the five speakers. The CD layer adopts the latest existing remastered sound source that Elliott Shiner, known for his work with Steely Dan, remastered in 2018 (at the time of the 40th anniversary of TOTO's debut) under the supervision of members. There is. Also, as a bonus track on the CD layer, 2018 Lucasa and Peichi will be added to the original material that was an unfinished outtake at the time of the "TOTO IV-Sacred Sword" recording session around 1981-1982. (Including co-starring with the late Pokaro brothers across time and space) 4 additional songs completed.

The package is an analog single record size 7 inch paper jacket with a lot of memorable items (Memorabilia) reprinted in a luxurious specification full of enclosing benefits, the Japan Budokan performance ticket on May 17, 1982 (Monday) and the announcement of the performance Poster, tour and pamphlet are also reprinted for the first time in 40 years. The analog LP band at the time of the first release and the recurrence, and the <member's session list> that was included at that time are also reprinted and included. In addition, all the jackets of the 7-inch analog (doughnut) board single cut from "TOTO IV-Sacred Sword" in Japan have been reprinted, and the contents are enriched to relive the time of 1982.

"TOTO IV ~ Sacred Sword 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition" is a limited edition of Japan's original project and will be released on Wednesday, August 3, 2022.

  5. Not so much a "trade show" but a gathering of like-minded synth nerds at the fabulous Centre for Computing History in Cambridge, the Silicon Valley (or Silicon Fen) of the U.K.!

This is a small gathering, open to all, across a weekend where a bunch of enthusiasts bring rare, exciting gear to show and allow visitors to play with. Given the location, there is a celebration of the use of computers in music, but many attendees bring classic analog and digital synths and drum machines for you to lust after. I'll be there again with a Series III Fairlight CMI and maybe a few other bits of synthesizer ephemera 😉 I had hoped to bring a Yamaha DX1, but the PSU is still buggering me around! I may just bring some other sampling classics like an EMAX II.

Tickets and info available at the following location. Entry also includes access to all areas of the museum, which has on display fully operational computing and gaming exhibits from the last 5 or 6 decades! A fun, family day out!

  6. Synthfest U.K. is back with its in person event after missing two years because of "you know what"! 😉

Held at the fantastic Octagon Centre in Sheffield, arguably the home of British electronic music, the same array of manufacturers, artists and industry experts will be on hand to sate your synth lust!

Tickets are available now and more details on exhibitors and seminars will be available soon!

    See you there! 🙂

  7. Thought it might be worth throwing this up here for U.K. based gear heads!

Sound On Sound magazine, in conjunction with Tileyard Studios in London are holding the inaugural Gearfest show on Saturday July 2nd 2022. Loads of great manufacturers in attendance and promises to be a great day.

Details and tickets (£10) are available on their website...

If you're coming, I will see you there!

Re: Elliot  - Toy Matinee remains one of my favorite surround mixes to use to show off my system.

WAY agreed on brother Greg Penny (except where is the damn version of Don’t Shoot Me???). His work with KD Laing on Ingenue is awesome, too.  Get this - he sold me my Hammond A100 a few years back!

I've yet to find the Toy Matinee disc here in the UK. I'd rather have the DVD-A than the DTS-CD, but right now, I'd take either!

I think the thing that knocks me out the most about Pepper is the use of the original source tracks.  We’ve been hearing those parts forever…but now I can hear all the frequencies we were missing.

Heck, even the mono remixes on the Pepper box set blew my mind.  How in the hell to they do that without panning???? :pop:

Dear god, those mono mixes are stunning!

  10. I've tried to accumulate all of his multi-channel stuff. I have all his solo work, most of Porcupine Tree's 5.1 output and a ton of other stuff that he's done for other people. The Yes mixes are astounding, as are the XTC albums. His work on Tears For Fears 'Songs From the Big Chair' just made me love that album more, which I thought was impossible!

  11. Last multi-channel disc i bought was the new Tears For Fears blu-ray of The Tipping Point.

I have all the XTC Blu Ray's and their Dukes of Stratosphere stuff and they're all stellar packages!
