  1. Yeah, they're certainly better than generic earplugs, but they still cut some high end.
  2. I've used Hearos for reasonable rehearsals and gigs: https://www.guitarcenter.com/Hearos/High-Fidelity-Ear-Plugs-1273887995250.gc I'm not sure if they'd hold up for really loud gigs, though. More recently, I've used these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019M576XW They've held up well as an audience member at pretty loud blues and rock shows, but I haven't gigged with them.
  3. Back in '92, I met a drummer and I married her.
  4. I think these darn kids today just need to lean into sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll like I did at their age.
  5. My own utterly unscientific, anecdotal perspective as a college prof is that younger folks are increasingly less interested in social media. My hope is that the whole thing will settle down to just another minimal thing that people interact with in moderate and healthy ways.
  6. I've probably mentioned this before, but I took lessons from Rick 35 years ago. He had a strong personality that sometimes rubbed people the wrong way, and he and I butted heads once or twice, but overall I really liked him and valued his instruction, especially for ear training and theory. I haven't kept touch with him since way back when, but I'm glad to hear he's successful doing something he loves.
  7. I thought Beano Cook was an excellent sportcaster.
  8. Are you playing in an orchestra? Then it's F#. Are you playing in a concert band? Then it's Gb.
  9. I strongly approve of the Squier and the Epiphone!
  10. It definitely has USB audio. The manual makes it sound like you do have to install a driver: "You can connect the RD-2000 via USB to a computer, and use it to handle audio signals. To use USB audio functionality, install the “VENDER” driver." I haven't tried it myself.

    NAMM 2024

There's something about the design aesthetics that's giving me flashbacks to the 70s. "By Mattel Electronics!"
  12. It's interesting how theory books tend to focus on chord changes and not mode changes, though I suppose they imply it by way of the associated chords ... maybe ... SO you're looking for a suggestion for what to put in the blank in A Ionian --> G Lydian --> blank Yes? How about F# Aeolian? It's the relative minor of A Ionian, and the G Lydian could just be thought of as a non-diatonic transition chord from the major to the minor. Just spit-balling here. I'm visiting my mom in Florida, and I do not have access to any musical instruments at the moment! 😆 😭
  13. Just to ask the stupid question ... You're picking the right option between TS and TRS?
  14. I'm almost positive that's EXACTLY what most guitarists do ...
  15. I took up electric bass in early '87, started upright about six months later, went to college as a music major for bass (classical and jazz). Ended up going in a different direction but still played on and off in rock and jazz groups until a few years ago. I consider myself mainly a keys player these days, but I'm still probably a better bassist than I am a keys player. It's interesting to hang here and all piano / keys related internet spaces and hear complaints about bassists, and then go to TalkBass, etc., and hear them complain about keys players. . It always surprises me the strange conflicts about "range" that come up, considering most folks in both groups listen to plenty of music with both keys and bass, often with arrangements that involve overlapping ranges to very good effect. Of course, it's all about arrangements, mixing, etc., especially EQing. Can't we all just get along?!
  16. I couldn't guess the answer to the OP's question. In related news, I've been re-watching the Third Doctor's run on Doctor Who recently, and there's a snippet of an old King Crimson song, "The Devil's Triangle," that's supposed to be on the car radio in a scene of "The Mind of Evil."
  17. I've made some health-related improvements over the last year and I'd like to kick it up a notch this year. All the usual with regard to eating better, drinking a tad less, exercising more consistently, dropping a few pounds, etc. Practice piano more consistently. This year wasn't too bad, but not long ago I had a stretch of a few years where I was really disciplined about it, and I'd like to get back to that. Having said that, I also resolve to let my cat spend damn near as much time on my lap as she likes. We lost one cat back in April and another the October before that, so we're down to the one now, and she's not getting any younger. As long as we have left with her, she gets what she wants. And generally try to be a nicer person. I've started to get grumpy and impatient in my old age, and I'd like to nip that in the bud so I'm more pleasant to be around ...
  18. I think I spent too much time trying to do too much. As much as I love the idea of being a multi-genre pianist, that's probably beyond me at my age. These days, I'm more focused on a smaller number of styles, so I can spend more time on them, rather than just a little time on a whole bunch of things. My advice would be to pick some reasonably narrow goals to begin with and really focus on that. You can always investigate others styles and genres later once you have your main ones under your belt.
  19. I had no idea Christine Perfect (McVie) could play like this.
