  1. Great timing on this article. I usually start thinking about what Santa might bring me around this time every year. It usually takes 2-3 weeks to settle on something but i think I know RN. Bose S1 pro speaker to go along with my Yanama MSP5. or maybe replace it altogether? Thanks!
  2. Not only is it possible, I’ve been able to hear songs in my head since I was a kid. In the before times (before MP3 players and spotify LOL) if I was out of the house and bored, I’d switch some music on in my head. Bye bye boredom. My twin (who’s only be able to play the radio LOL) says its rare but I don’t think so. Can this be developed? Absolutely. A keyboard magazine article once advised that when you hear a phrase in a song that speaks to you, write it out and then transpose to all 12 keys. Develop your own vocabulary.
  3. Some time ago, there was a chat about using battery operated digital timers. Someone posted that he she couldn’t use this timer due to OCD and concern that if the timer was left on overnight that it might cause a fire. I have a touch of OCD so I wanted to help but I couldn’t think of anything worthy to say back then. But now I do. Because, this afternoon, I discovered I had left on my digital timer on all last night. The good news is that I didn’t burn my house down in the process. So, whoever my OCD friend is, I hope this is helpful
  4. I upgraded to Pianoteq 8 in January 2023. A couple of days ago, I downloaded an update. When I play, I open up Mixcraft and then open up PTQ. Ever since January, I see two icons in the Mixcraft—one for Pianoteq 8 and one for Pianoteq 8 vst3. I usually use PTQ 8 but last night was the first time I thought to try the vst3. Before I started playing, I compared the two instruments. With both instruments, all the parameters were the same—EQ, velocity etc etc. When I went to the “about” panel, they both said the same… version 8.1.3, windows 10. Then I recorded myself playing Monk’s round midnight and then compared the two sounds To my 62 year old ears, the vst3 sounded better. If anyone has any ideas as to how these two seemingly identical keyboards can sound different, believe me I’m all ears. I’m contemplating getting Reaper. Who knows… I might get sound number three 😉 Thanks in advance
  5. Here are my practice tips ---I scan the new song that I’m learning and download it to the kindle. Then I red line the 1-2 measures that I’m working on right now. I take my kitchen timer and set it for 5 minutes. I concentrate on those 1-2 measures until I know them cold. Repeat as necessary --I use Jerry Seinfeld’s “don’t break the chain calendar”. I created an excel spreadsheet with 12 columns and 31 lines. Every day that I practice, I put an X on that date. So far in 2023 family obligations have made me miss 2 days. The point is that I practice on days when I otherwise wouldn’t want to practice because I …. Don’t want to break the chain 😉 --Montunoman already advised to use a practice journal. I started that this year and I’ve found it helpful. Examples of my practice journal are…. 01-02-23--page 1, bar 1, measures 1-2 01-03-23--page 1, bar 1 measures 3-4 Hope this helps.
  6. I read the OP and I was putting together an answer with a lot of legal mumbo jumbo LOL. But then I saw Docbop’s answer and I like that approach better. So, here’s my version of that. Create a google drive account and share the user name and password with whomever you want. Then put anything you want on there
  7. A very wise man once observed that talking about music is like dancing about architecture. So, I’ll resist the urge to put into words how great PTQ 8 is. What I will say is this. I have written out a spreadsheet to tell me how loud my speakers have to be when the forced hot air furnace kicks in and when it shuts off. But with PTQ 8 they revamped something (microphones perhaps?) that makes it louder and clearer so now I’ll revamp that spreadsheet.
  8. I bought Pianoteq 7 two years ago. I don’t like this thing. I love this thing. PTQ 8 was released in November 2022 but I decided to wait for my birthday to get it. My birthday’s next week so I’m going to download PTQ 8 tmmr while I’m watching football. And to all a good night.
  9. I also have a 3 foot by 5 foot mat like Ewall has. It has a rubber underside. But I added a five pound weight. Between those two items, my pedal hasn’t moved a millimeter. Until tmmr that is LOL. As for the stand, I use this on stage stand. Hope this helps. Happy Holidays to all
  10. Thank you to Elmer for your insights. Many people looked at my post but you tried to help, and I wanted you to know that I appreciate it. I won"t bore you with the details of my life but suffice it to say I don"t have the time necessary to try your solution. Here"s what I did do. When I was watching meet the press this past Sunday, I took screenshots of the keyboards I created. If another glitch occurs here"s hoping I will remember to reboot and if that doesn"t work, I can rebuild what I"ve already done.
  11. I"m a bit confused so maybe you can clarify things This PTQ glitch disappeared once I re-booted my laptop. How will trying to re-create the problem help here? All the best, Ralph
  12. I"m using a Lenovo Windows 10 I bought MODARTT Pianoteq 7 Standard Edition Virtual Instrument Software. As of today, I"m up to Pianoteq 7.04 I first start up Mixcraft and then import Pianoteq into the mixcraft keyboard is Yamaha P121 as for knobs/faders, I did adjust the stock ones to my liking. I just looked and they are still where I changed them to as for MIDI stream, I use a USB hookupâ¦.forgive me if that doesn"t answer your question. You know more about this than I do, I"m sure I appreciate any help you can give. thanks again
  13. Last night I was trying to play Pianoteq only to discover that all 15 pianos that I createdâwith different mic placements and different room reverbâsuddenly sounded exactly the same. To make matters worse, they all sounded like the pedal is perpetually pressed down. the night before last, there were no problems. I went to the PTQ website but couldn"t find any answers. Then I went to google, and what do I find? My keyboard forum post from December 2020 in which I raved about my new PTQ purchase and my joke that I hope I didn"t buy a product similar to the Dallas Cowboys in that it would stop playing in the fourth quarter. Well, I"m guessing the Cowboys lost in OT because today, the PTQ glitch is gone and everything is working fine. The two things I"m going to change after dinner is I"m going to take screenshots of everything in case I have to re-build the keyboards I like and I"m now going to save my presets as fxp files.
  14. velocity changes and giving something back Over the years, I"ve gained a lot of knowledge from this forum. Today I"m going to try to give something back. From the day after Thanksgiving to today, I"ve done a LOT of tweaking to my new found joyâPianoteqâand its only fair to share what I"ve learned. For my ears, I"ve boiled it down to changing only a few parametersâvelocity, EQ and microphones. The only issue for me was that notes from C4 on up were too harsh. I changed the EQ and what I have here helped a lot but it wasn"t getting me all the way home. then I played around with velocity. what I have here worked from C4 up but it wasn"t sounding good below that. I tried using PTQ layers and morphing but I couldn"t get that to work for me. So, I went back to my Mixcraft and played around with creating two layers of sound. I now have two layersâ¦one for C4 on up with the changed velocity and one for C1 to B3 with the original 45 degree angle velocity. Instant bliss. Bliss on tap. Then for added fun, I started playing around with and saving microphones. I think I got 18 saved up. I wont list them all unless anyone asks for them. I wonder if I left any of them out? LOL. Hope this helps. As always, YMMV. if anyone has any tweaks that I can try, I"m all ears. Happy new year to all.
  15. a couple of months ago, i asked a similar question and someone (i wish i could give credit but i forget who gave me this advice and i can't find the thread myself) suggested My Sheet Music Transcriptions. they do exactly what you want... you send them a mp3 file, they send you a PDF and midi file of the sheet music. I dont recall exactly what the turnaround time was but i do recall is was pretty quick. hope this helps.
