They are a modern version of The Section from the 70's which was Russ Kunkel, Lee Sklar, Danny Kortchmar, and Craig Doerge on keyboards.

One of the artists I did sound for a while the singer sang for one of the later versions of Nugents original band the Amboy Dukes. I couldn't believe all the crap he said that band did bouncing around the country in a van. So I have zero respect for Nugent and all his "hey man he plays fast" type fans. After working with the singer I have no doubt his Nugent stories were true.

In the Tech Industry trade shows are shrinking and some even gone. That manufactures are moving to just doing their own events versus competing for attention in a trade show. Now what I'd like to know is the number of small music stores versus the major chains and online. Maybe Covid showed online rollout from companies can reach a bigger audience for less money. I'm just observing how I see the business changing in the internet world.

What I'd do in situations like that was mute the strings and play rhythmic patterns like a percussionist. In fact now playing piano it's something I miss being able to mute notes and play rhythmic patterns. The Jazz guitar legend Herb Elis used to do that, he had a way of slapping his guitar making and playing bongo sounds and rhythms.

Do like the horn players and sneak off the stage and grab another beer.

I played guitar and bass for over 60 years. I worked in a music school for about 10 year. I attended MI which it's main program is guitar. I was recording engineer and most my friends then and now are musicians and a mix of instruments including keyboard players. I never heard of all this crap you guy are talking about with anti keyboard or similar stuff. So this thread is really weird to me make me wonder how much is real and how much is just trying to read something into situations that doesn't exist.

NAMM 2024 is twenty days away and it been crickets from the instrument world and rumour mill. Seems likes that's a bad sign for NAMM and considering trade shows in general have been shrinking or dying off.

One of my favorite movies was Barfly with Mickey Rourke and Faye Dunaway. I'll alter one of the scenes to fit this situation. Dunaway... I hate keyboards players. Rourke... You shouldn't hate anyone it not good. Dunaway... Ok. Keyboard players, I feel so much better when they aren't around.

You only feel bad when your trying to be a real hip cutting edge player and some reviewer calls you a excellent Smooth Jazz artist. <grin>

I never heard it as Smooth Jazz especially then it was just Funky Jazz. Now a days with aging and need to pay bills it's getting to be more Smooth Jazz. But I really hate that term Smooth Jazz.

Heard him many time back then. The music school I worked at was a few mile down the street from the Baked Potato and Tuesday nights had become guitar night in clubs in the Valley so I'd head to the Baked Potato to see Lee Ritenour or Larry Carlton. Lee was there most Tuesdays and always had a great band with Patrice Rushen on keys, Anthony Jackson or Abe Laboriel bass, Harvey Mason drums, Ernie Watts sax and others when in town. Later on Dave or Don Grusin would be playing keys. Also the other way down the street from the school was a restaurant/bar that had another studio guitar ace Pat Kelly and he always had great up and coming studio guys in his band. Then that was a bar I think it was in a bowling alley that one of the guy from Rufus ran a weekly jam at that attracted a lot of hot players. Great time to be a young musician.

Sounds to me like you guys are mixing your use of level and impedance. Most mic's these days are low impedance and low output but a high impedance mic's are still low output like guitar pickups and most musical instruments. High level in general means something is putting out Line Level output like a preamp.

A Twin Reverb would be my choice if younger and could deal with 70 lbs of amp. For keyboards they have the headroom for warm tube tone, the problem is cranking them up enough to get grit they are 80 watts of crazy loud. So I'd probably go with a Deluxe Reverb 22watt and 12" speaker from more bottom.

Being I spent most my life as a guitar and bass player changing preamp tubes is just part of finding your sound. I've put higher gain tubes in bass amps for more bite and lower gain ones in amp I used for Jazz. Tube amps are interesting beasts in tube, transformer, capacitor, and speaker changes and change the personality of the amp. Then the tube added for reverb and vibrato adds a touch of gain. Or like the Deluxe Reverb the Normal channel sounds better at least to me because it doesn't have that "bright" capacitor on the second channel. Many Deluxe Reverb users clip one leg of that capasitor to get rid of the Bright sound. That the nice thing about playing guitar is you find a nice guitar and amp and then you experiment and tweak it to be exactly like you want. Acoustic pianists with $$$ get to do that getting the action changed, but with digital keyboards they are what they are and if you don't like it you buy another brand or model.

Most the tube bass amps traditionally the company takes a guitar amp that had the wattage they wanted then remove reverb and-or tremolo and then change the tone stack to hit frequencies better for bass. Like the old Fender Bassman that is so popular is a Fender Bandmaster changed like I described. Ampeg did the same and others. So really same amp with a slightly different tone stack. Even some SS amps the guitar amp heads they modded the same way.

The last tube amp I had I think would be a good amp for Wurlie. Fender does these Special Run amps now and then and I had a Special Run 65 Princeton reissue with a 12" speaker, it was great sounding amp.

I can't imagine wanting a different sound on stage than what FOH is amplifying to the room. Sure in a session you know what your playing is probably going to be changed by the producer, engineer, or artist, but you're a hired gun that what the job is, but live what I'm sending via mic or line should only be tweaked in order to make sure it gets to all corners of the venue.

My Nord S3 mainly use the Studio Grand 2 a very useable sound for recording and live. If I want some phat solo sound on the S3 then the White Grand. Then on my recording computer I have Keyscape and so many great AP and EP sounds to choose from.

I think it was one of the Rolling Stones who got knocked out at the Hollywood Bowl from a ground zap. Back in the day there was a small reflection pond in front of the stage at the bowl. A bunch of Stones fans got into the pond and splashing around and water got on the stage. One of the Stone was in some water and went to sing and ZAP and knocked out. After that the Bowl started draining the pond before rock shows. But since those days amps have 3-prong power cords and ground reverse switches. I've gotten a couple good shocks over the years and learn the right what to test ground is with the back of your hand, not trying to touch a mic with your finger tips. Using the back of you hand the natural move if shocked pulls your hand away, if touching with finger tips the natural move makes the hand want to close over the mic.

Usually want stands to be stealth so idea of painting or wrapping a stand seems odd to me. Working in media for a church and filming services we usually wanted to cover the keyboard to hide all the cords connected and also work as a modesty panel for women on keyboards. Being part of Media there was a lot of "pipe and drape" materials from set designs for changing the stage look or for special events. The drape material is very slick and flexible cloth and always drapes nicely. So we'd cut piece that would cover back and two sides of the keyboard and go down to the floor. Then just used a couple pieces of black gaffers tape cover everything except the top and keyboard side. Also covering that much no cords were seen no need to worry about cable management. The drape material comes in a lots of colors so if you want to be colorful easy way to do it. That drape material was also light so we had a huge piece of it we covered our FOH mixing console with to keep the dust off when not in use and another we covered our grand piano with.

Nord doesn't have a great reputation from what I seen when it comes to service, they pawn it off on their distributors.

Gig pants also double as part of the job interview clothes along with my one shirt and tie. Working as a computer SysAdmin had to have the BS job interview clothes even though going to be interviewed by a bunch of people in jeans and t-shirts.
