  1. Hey, sounds like you are sending the bank msb, are you also sending the bank lsb? I posted a screenshot of my modx7 midi setting in that other thread which might be useful as a reference.
  2. So I figured I would show how I created my midi presets for the MODX all in one go. (You can do the same for songs and documents) Here is the link to the bandhelper website page that deals with it and also one for Midi: https://www.bandhelper.com/tutorials/importing_data.html https://www.bandhelper.com/tutorials/sending_MIDI.html
  3. Yeah, your setup sounds similar to mine, although I only use a MODX7 and I am running Band Helper which is the more recent version of Set List Maker I believe. I think if you email Arlo he can prob help you out and maybe see if upgrading to Band Helper is worth it. Its not super expensive and I like supporting guys like him. For what its worth, I use my setups for wedding/corporate stuff and it makes selecting songs on the fly a breeze.
  4. I think the reply you're quoting was to HammondDave. Viv mentioned trying sending program changes to the MODX7 first and trying the alternative as a workaround which is why I related my set-up/experience.
  5. So when I went down the rabbit hole with this a few years ago post Covid with my MOXF6/Nord Stage combo and then my MODX7, I tried a lot of different apps including forscore and unrealbook and chose Band Helper for these reasons: Good support from Arlo, great website, and forum website where you can ask for help Browser based login and shortcuts for importing batches of PDFs, song titles, and midi presets, If you are reasonably computer savvy you can import and setup a hundred songs with program changes in like 2-3 hours. Its crazy when you compare it to the alternative. The ability to customize the app layout and additional features like adding tracks, set timers, band calendar, linking iPads or iPhones, controlling lights and so on Very reasonable monthly/annual price (last year it was 12 bucks for my single membership) Forscore does offer the ability to create your own score(s), which band helper doesn't. Obviously everyone's needs will be a little different, just relating my experience.
  6. I set up Band Helper to control my Nord Stage 3, Prophet Rev 2, and a whole bunch of pedals on my pedalboard. One of my presets looked like this:
  7. I was able to use Band Helper to select Live Sets on my MODX7. My midi presets looked like below:
  8. I did this with my MOXF which is pretty much the same. I used Band Helper to select a Master Mode patch which would have either a Voice, Performance, or Song saved to it .You have to use hex code which looks like below:
  9. Dude, he’s not asking how to set the feature, he’s asking about the button popping out which is not in the manual. Calm down…
  10. For the Crumar you can use a 5 pin 1/8 inch adapter for the 5 pin and then a USB power adapter for power. I did this with my MODX7 and B-3X and it worked great. Only issue is that the micro USB port isn’t very sturdy.
  11. Hi all, Since the new Montage M8X is still pretty heavy, I am going to be getting an M7 and find myself needing an 88 key digital piano. I really like the form factor, weight and features of the Legend 70s Artist-W and the sound seems pretty good based on the online videos. I'd be using it for practicing piano at home sometimes and jazz/blues/rock gigs. A big plus are the two sets of outputs and the easy to use iPad editor. Other boards I like and am considering are the Yamaha CP88/YC88 (no assignable outputs) or Nord Stage 4 88 (expensive). The Numa Piano X GT, the Korg Grandstage, and Kawaii MP7SE are all possibilities as well, but I am looking to stay at around 40 to 43 pounds in weight. Curious to know if anyone has any new feedback to add for this board as of 2023?
  12. Just off the top of my head from having played this tune before, I think the last chord of the four bar phrase alternates between an F major 7 and the D7sus, depending on where you are in the form.
  13. I found this thread on TGP last week and it is pretty interesting/eye opening to hear the other side of this argument: https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/big-rig-live-frustration-rant.2455747/
  14. Thanks, it was fun to work on! To be clear though, the play-along track is still your playing, just looped in Logic. It also sounds cool played on piano/EP too with octaves in the left hand. Did you use any post processing on that recording to get it pop like it does?
  15. In the spirit of inspiring less in the way of negative posts on this forum, here is a lick of Jim's that I transcribed and worked on last year. I like the voicings, the organ tone and the rhythm. The original link is below and I have attached some play-along tracks I made (slow, fast, and in all keys). The lick starts around the two minute mark. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3t4xyhdGRA Jim A - 2 Handed organ slow.mp3 Jim A - 2 Handed organ fast.mp3 Jim A - 2 Handed Organ - All Keys Copy.mp3
  16. I've been lurking on this thread since it was posted and feel exactly the same way. The negativity on this board is a big part of why I don't participate more here. Normally I wouldn't even post in a thread like this, but Jim is one of the players that I respect on here and I pay close attention to his posts and I have checked out and transcribed some of his stuff as well. I also found the thread with the clip of Rossano Sportiello at a party to be pretty silly with people saying pretty harsh things about something that was recorded off the cuff in a crowded room with a player just sitting down to jam a bit. It's like judging a stand-up comedian when they are doing a 5 minute spot at a local club, instead of listening to their published recordings. Anyway, I haven't coughed up any cash to support the forum yet, maybe if we can go a month or two without hyper-analyzing or ripping into accomplished musicians I might consider it.
  17. Bizarre timing on this for me. I've been doing a deeper dive on this era of music and ordered a book on Huey online on Tuesday (the day he died). I had just googled him and was like "wow he's still alive". Seems like he got a raw deal with publishing rights and had some court battles in the 80s and 90s and withdrew from the music scene. Here are links to his obit and the book (written by the same guy) and Dr. John doing a medley of his tunes: https://www.theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/entertainment_life/new-orleans-rock-n-roll-pioneer-huey-piano-smith-dies/article_98e7697a-acc8-11ed-a92a-f3b7f5af2678.html https://www.alligator.com/store/product/3941/Huey-Piano-Smith-and-the-Rocking-Pneumonia-Blues-by-John-Wirt-PAPERBACK-BOOK
  18. I have not dug too much into the Rev2 yet, but I own the 16-voice and it seems like there is infinite potential for creating complex layered/evolving pads, and the 16 voice feature adds the capability for playing pretty lush harmonies without losing notes.
  19. Thought I might start a new thread for this pedal: https://www.lehle.com/en/lehle-dual-expression I am using it with a Nord Stage 3 and a Prophet Rev 2, and also have the USB port going into a USB hub and then into my iPad via the camera connection kit. (Midi monitor confirms that the iPad is receiving the data) My thoughts/observations: Very smooth travel and even tracking through the range due to the use of a magnetic sensor rather than a mechanical potentiometer. Good quality, easy to calibrate, and will self adjust/calibrate for different keyboard inputs Small footprint, but sturdy underfoot Can power the pedal by USB Sends expression data (cc#11) on midi. ch. 1 by default Good customer support Cons are that it is expensive and not a long throw pedal like the FC-7 My question for any Camelot Pro or Midiflow users is that it seems like it is possible with both these apps to assign an incoming midi message (i.e. the lehle pedal on ch.1 ) to multiple midi channels inside the app. Can anyone confirm this and make a case for which app is easier to use? I will need to integrate it with Band Helper which is the app I use to send program changes, as well as certain CC messages. Thanks, Ben
  20. Here is the finished product. Changed the configuration and added more pedals. Wound up learning to solder and doing the cables myself. Still working on midi implementation with the iPad but it sounds good and should do what I want it to. Will be making custom cables to go into and out of the back of the pedalboard at some point. Pros: fx from individual pedals sound great, its fun to have knobs and dials, iPad midi makes selecting presets super easy, could use this pedalboard with any keyboard combo technically including rhodes/wurly/clavs with a pre-amp or clean boost, or a B3 modified for 1/4 out. Cons: expensive! heavy, time consuming to build, onboard fx for Nord stage 3 and Prophet are already pretty good, more potential for cables malfunctioning etc., standard or 500 series rack units might be better options, plugins or iPad apps will get you pretty close to this quality of sound Signal flow is: Nord keys mono (or misc. romplers or vintage keyboards) to LA Lady stereo >> Ottobit Jr.>>Zelzah>>H9>>El Cap>>DIG>>H9>>Deco>>KL8 stereo input Nord organ mono (or B3/clonewheel) to Lounsberry Organ Grinder>>TC HOF mini>>Neo Vent II stereo >>Atlas Compressor>>KL8 stereo input Prophet Rev 2 Stereo (or misc. synth) to H9 >> Timeline >>Big Sky>>KL8 stereo input Midi flow is: iPad >> USB/MIDI adapter >> Conduit 5 Pin >> Conduit TRS to Deco, DIG (TS mode), El Cap (TS Mode), Zelzah, Ottobit Jr. Conduit 5 Pin out >> H9 Keys 1 >> Neuro Hub 5 Pin in >> Neuro HUB TRRS to La Lady & Atlas Compressor Neuro Hub 5 Pin out >> H9 Keys 2 >> H9 Synth 1 >> Timeline >> Big Sky
  21. Just to be clear, when using band helper you just use the spreadsheet to import your midi preset data or song data or similar type parameters. At that point you stop using the spreadsheet and it becomes saved to your user account. The app is pretty stable, and the developer is really responsive, however it is a one-man shop for the most part, so there is always the risk that it goes under for some reason. Pricewise, it’s very cheap something like $15-$20 for a years subscription. I’ve been using it for two years for weddings and it’s pretty great for calling up a song on the fly which is how pretty much all of the bands I play with roll.
  22. I use the band helper app for this purpose with my MOFX6 to select master mode patches. With this app it’s possible to create an excel spreadsheet with midi presets with your sys ex messages in hex code and then import that using a laptop. I imported 128 midi presets into band helper for the Moto XF6 and it took me like about an hour to create the spreadsheet and then instantly upload it. You can then also create individual song patches in an Excel spreadsheet which can link up to previously created midi presets and pdf documents. So anyway, this might be a solution if you’re looking to replace forscore quickly. I can probably share the master mode patches I created, and then you could potentially link each master mode patch to the voice or performance you want to call up.
  23. Ha ha, come on. We're all keys players here right? So I like to play octaves in my LH for acoustic piano in pop/rock settings but not as a bassline, just holding the root. I also think the low-end of a clav, wurly, or rhodes can be great in a band context. Usually what I do is try to get my amp off the floor, roll of frequencies below 80-100hz, and make sure the sound guy isn't sending my keys to the sub. The low-bass knob on the motion sound is useful for this too. I have a couple friends who do pro-sound at big venues nationally and they often put a high pass filter on the keys if there is too much mud. This can sound good or bad depending. I saw Dr. John at the Wilbur Theatre in Boston in 2015 and his piano sounded terrible through the PA, probably for this reason. But to be crystal clear, I would never play anything super busy or double the bass player unless it was worked out beforehand as an effect.
  24. OK, got the pedals up and running to test out, waiting on the Key Largo and Rolls PM351. Went with the Volante instead of the Boss for tape echo/delay. Top row is the Prophet FX chain and bottom row is the Nord keys /synth FX chain and Nord organ FX chain. Got a decent amount of noise right now, and cabling is still a mess and am still figuring out the plan for midi. Highlights right now are the Zelzah and Volante with the H9 hall reverb algorithm for fun Rhodes sounds and the Rev2 sounds great with the H9 for modulation FX and the Timeline/Big Sky. Only thing I am really missing is a compressor pedal to go after the Vent, but oh well....
  25. Agreed, however I think most keyboard patches with stereo panning and even stereo fx pedals sum to mono pretty well, using either a stereo summing box or in my case the mono output out of my motion sound. Obviously, this will vary depending on the sound in question, but the phase cancellation issues with piano patches seem to be the main issue. The Nord has the option of running your acoustic piano in mono mode, and Yamaha has some nice mono pianos. Yeah, dealing with levels is tough, I wish the Key Largo had a level meter for fine-tuning volume, but I can use my Allen and Heath for that at home anyway. I am going to use the Rolls PM351 to sub-mix the mono monitor send and my stereo keys for in-ears for this rig. My wedding/cover band board rig is the MODX7 with B3-X and I am going to try out a Roland GO-Mixer Pro-X for that set-up.
