  3. Thanks for the post. I wasn't aware of Leon RIp
  4. @Scott I get really annoyed with out of tune AND out of time players. When I was a young buck just starting out on guitar for real, I remember the frown from the older guys when I was a little behind or ahead of the beat. One (pretty famous who I won't mention) would begin to furiously stomp his foot to the beat when I was off time.
  5. Thanks DBM. I just joined. Looks like they have some "guitar" groups established. I'll see how their privacy and rules fit. We do need a better social site like FB without the bad stuff.
  6. Speaking of brothers: Chet and half-brother Jim [video:youtube]
  7. +1 Dan So....what do you call this group? http://www.maximumbands.com/bob_marley.html
  8. I would submit that the terms "Tribute" and "Cover" are marketing tools to position the expectations of the audience. At least when I see a band advertised as a "Tribute" band, I expect to hear music written and recorded by the original. It may be rearranged but will be highly recognizable as the original's music. I would be greatly disappointed if the music by the Tribute Band included other band's covers or original music to the lack of the band that is being honored.

    Metronome

I must admit, when I was trying to teach myself piano/keyboards I used a metronome. The drum loop was somewhat distracting plus the metronome just seemed to remind me of my school band director with his baton. Haven't had it out in many, many years though. Now it's so much better using the drum loops or bass loops. (Actually prefer the bass backing tracks). But, to each his or her own! What works to make music better is the right answer.
  10. Good Luck with the new setup. Sounds like you're set for a few years?
  11. Surfer Girl, absolutely correct decision. Reminds me of the son: "You've Got To Stand For Something" by Aaron Tippin (Country) [video:youtube]
  12. @Fang and Fred. I can agree with that. So I guess I was thinking "Cover Band".
  13. @Fang. I guess we should agree on the definition of a "Tribute" vs "Cover" band. I've always differentiated between the two by the music they play. A tribute band might play songs that were recorded by the original group but they also may insert original music that is a "tribute" to the original, i.e. similar in style and tone but original in lyrics and leads. A Cover Band only does covers of the original. But that's my own definition. It's not something you find in the dictionary.
  14. A good one [video:youtube]
  15. My brother had a guitar that I learned to play on. A friend had a Martin D28 that sounded amazing.
  16. Is the TAPF band Gilmour era?
  17. +1 on the teli axe. 😁
  18. Great point P90. Cover bands are not as interesting in my opinion as the tribute bands. Even the new Eagles which isn't a cover or tribute band isn't as good. You can't reproduce the sound of the original group. Tribute bands don't try.
  19. Subject: Tribute Bands It seems there has been a plethora of tribute bands emerging lately. Many are performing at smaller concert venues and are fairly inexpensive. Have you attended any lately and if so, share your thoughts here so we can decide which ones are good to go or which ones we should avoid: I hear this tribute band (Pink Floyd) is good www.houstonpress.com/music/in-the-flesh-a-brief-field-guide-to-pink-floyd-tribute-bands-7611808 Read more: http://talk-music.proboards.com/thread/4978/tribute-bands#ixzz5nFz4Asc5
  20. Of course Fred. Maybe in the "final battle" we wouldn't necessarily want to make a lot of sound? Maybe a better scenario would be when some fruitcake decides to take down the powser grid?
  21. Ok. So this morning I was thinking: If I were to choose one guitar to take into Armageddon (the final battle) where I wouldn't have access to electricity, which one would it be. The process of elimiation led me to think that an electric guitar would be useless for all intent and purposes; so I would have to select an acoustic guitar. However, it occurred to me that if there were available a solar powered amp, that might not be a correct assumption. So I googled "solar power guitar amp: and lo and behold, the following came up: www.solarguitaramp.com/ Has anyone seen one of these and have a comment? 22. Now this has to be the epitome of "laminated" guitar bodies.
  23. +1 Fred. Tele all the way. Or ES series. re: Jeff Beck. Check out his guitar tech: https://guitar.com/features/interview-with-steve-prior-jeff-becks-guitar-tech/
