  1. Because they have healthier lifestyles. Also not all such countries rank above us, but that might depend on how you define "industrialized counties" too.

The book does seem to have some interesting stuff, but a little research showed me:

    - He went to a few counties for a single "stiff shoulder" ailment

    - He apparently saw only one doctor in the U.S. (who apparently graduated from the Frank Burns Institute)

    - In Britain (where taxes are much higher btw), he was told the system couldn’t offer any solution for his shoulder, due to tight cost controls on what the system will pay for.

    - In Canada, the waiting list was too long for Reid to see a specialist

Please understand I'm not sitting here waving a flag going "USA! USA!" Our system has its faults to say the least. But I think it's an oversimplification to say "look how country X does it and it works better, so we should." There are many financial, cultural, and socio-political factors which makes comparing countries dicey at best. It's a complex issue.

  2. Sorry, $49. I will blame my typing over my brain. :) (cuz yknow, the 4 is so close to the 9....) Still leery if all it really buys me is scalability. And you're right, much of the stock stuff (esp the "Factory" stuff) is IMO is considerably underrated, not unlike how stock stuff that comes with DAWs is. Human nature, I guess...we see it as a "throw in" so how good could it be? doh!

eIf I said water was wet you would find a way to argue why water is not wet, then complain I'm not allowing you to disagree when I ask you to explain your argument.

This is what you love to do.

:classic_laugh: More like I disagreed with you about one particular thing, and although I clearly and plainly explained why, you somehow couldn't grasp it, so you get in a snit and claim I "didn't explain it," followed up with snotty digs and ridiculous accusations. Speaks for itself.

    Whatever dude. buh-bye

So the argument is the statement "Losing Andrews hurts Lamar worse than losing Kelce would hurt Mahommes" is equivalent to the statement "Lamar relies on Andrews as much as Mahommes relies on Kelce" .   🤔

I assume you're not referring to me, since that's not what I said. I don't know why you're having a hard time understanding what I said, but whatever. And excuse me for daring to disagree.

Yes. And you'll hear people say, "the U.S. has the best healthcare in the world", and whether for U.S. residents or people like your colleagues flying in from Canada, it may be true, for those who can afford it. But you also often hear about insurance companies declining to cover things, whether because they deem them unnecessary or because they think a less expensive treatment would be sufficient

...which in some cases is valid. I've actually heard people whine because their insurance won't cover a facelift. Also you have people who have no coverage, not because they can't afford it, but because "it's too expensive" and they roll the dice, figuring or hoping nothing big happens to them...and then it does, but you can't refuse someone ER care or life-saving procedures, so they either lose the farm and/or go bankrupt, and hospitals lose lots of money. No, I don't imply put money over lives, but I also don't expect hospitals to do things for free. These self-entitled people do. Don't get me wrong, I'm with you about what scum hospitals and insurance companies can be, but it's not always them, and if we had everything "free" from the govt, the govt would be declining people in some cases too. Also people would be trying to milk the system to a ridiculous degree (because it's free!) and the result are ridiculously long wait times as described above. Finally some countries have much higher taxes, which go to pay healthcare they may rarely if ever need. As No7 said, they all have their pros and cons.

  6. Michigan survived a game they didn't deserve to against Maryland (not that Maryland really deserved to either with several key bad plays), and I maintain they are way overrated, as is their QB. They will not win or probably even make it to the title game. Meanwhile Oregan, Georgia, and Ohio St are manhandling their respective opponents. Miami and Louisville didn't have any playoff implications, but was a good game.

And now, an oldie but goodie from my "Craig's List" column that was once on Harmony Central.

Craig's List: 5 Toxic Hazards of Holiday Music

    By Anderton | December 19, 2016

    1. You’ll hear “Carol of the Bells.” I mean, doesn’t this music sound like it should accompany some scary nightmarish scene from a Tim Burton film? On the plus side, it has the distinction of being one of the few Christmas carols with the power to depress—helpful if you’re feeling too cheery!

    2. Stupefyingly bad “contemporary” holiday songs. If I never hear Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmastime,” or Neil Diamond’s fake Jamaican accent at the beginning of his reggae version of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” (I’m not making this up), it will be too soon. PARENTAL WARNING: Diamond’s version is on YouTube, and accessible to children under 13.

    3. “The Little Drummer Boy” lyrics “pa rum pum pum pum.” Okay, it’s a nice little song pa rum pum pum pum, but does it really need to end pa rum pum pum pum every single pa rum pum pum pum effing line with pa rum pum pum pum? But, credit where credit is due: That song was written before computer-based cut-and- paste.

    4. “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town—The Police State Mix.” “You better watch out . . . he sees you when you’re sleeping, he knows when you’re awake . . . making a list, checking it twice . . . he knows if you’ve been good or bad . . .” Threats, spying, database of offenders, summary judgments without trial—Santa sounds like a cross between a pedophile, the DHS, and your creepy uncle Sammy.

    5. Kenny G’s holiday music tours. So there you are at the local casino, doing a little gambling, maybe helping some Native Americans extract their revenge on the original illegal immigrants, and you find that...Kenny G is playing his holiday tour and that particular casino is one of his victims! Run!

I know it's tongue in cheek, but I disagree with everything here except #5 (and also point out that Kenny Gwhiz is Jewish).

I mostly hate songs which good or bad or in between, were destroyed by overplay this time of year. McCartney's song comes to mind, as does

    - Springsteen's Santa Claus is Comin to Town

    - Beach Boys Little Saint Nick

    - Brenda Lee Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree

    - Eagles Please Come Home For Christmas

    - Elvis Blue Christmas

    - George Michael Last Christmas

I could go on...but probably the worst is "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer," which was mildly funny the first time and quickly became totally annoying thereafter.

Not saying losing Andrews sinks the Ravens as much as losing Jackson but there's no way this can be spun as a positive for the Ravens.  Ravens QBs rely on Andrews as much as Mahommes relies on Travis Kelce.

I disagree. Kelce is the go-to guy for Mahomes far and away as their WRs to date are OKish. Jackson has at least two if not three very good WRs. However if Jackson if out or more than a little limited, bye Ravens.

Sports reporters are jumping on the Bengals' back for allegedly hiding the true nature of Burrow's injury - saying he's back from the wrist injury, but then the wrist gets aggravated again so he can't hold the football again....  BUT.... I think just about all NFL teams withhold info on just how hurt their stars really are.

Agreed, but it sounds like it was a different injury...can't say
