    Then again, I don't know how old that reel is.   In some recent Youtube vids, he seems to be in better shape.

    He was at NAMM.  Seems to be taking care of himself as far as weight goes.  And he’s up to speed on the Domi / JD Beck trend.

From what I’ve seen -if they use an actual singer with a similar range and is able to mimic the original singers trade mark rhythm and phrasing habits - the AI timbre conversion is going to be spot on.  It’s not as accurate using text to vocal or a live singer who doesn’t have anything in common with the artist you’re attempting to duplicate.  
     

    I’ve heard some Sinatra knock offs with AI that are immediately recognizable as fakes because the vocal they fed the timbre conversion had none of what made Frank Frank - wrong phrasing, wrong rhythm.   Just copying the timbre is not enough to fool us.  
     

    It’s very strange seeing us digitized AND duplicated so easily - it’s almost sad.  But then again, maybe we’re all just characters in a simulation anyway.

  3. It might be to one’s benefit to include Human Made or No AI in the liner notes and artwork.  
     

    The industry and governments need to get their shit together quickly on new copyright and IP rules.  What’s their plan to compensate all the copyrighted digital material that was fed to the robot?

    Me too.  But that’s technology.   Next we tell AI to play the set.

    Technology certainly provides KB players with a variety of instruments and sounds to cover bass duties too.

     

    Playing LH bass can be a total blast when done properly.

     

    Otherwise, a solid Bass player is worth their weight in B strings, er, bottom.😎

    Yamaha Genos, or a similar app on your iPad - pass on the bass player and drummer. keep the fee for yourself rather than split 3 ways.  😉

    Roland should have spoken with Apple on this.  Incremental update is sold at same price as discontinued model.  That’s how you get to a trillion dollars.  😉

    If you have a strong bass player, it’s a blessing of course for him/her to free you up for other tasks.  But yeah, if you take that job it certainly gives you a lot of control over how things are going to go!

    Not bad. Short story, it's Analog Lab in a box with a decent keybed. I enjoyed playing the EPs especially. As to my own use, I need the Augmented Brass and Augmented Woodwinds which are not part of the current content load.

    P.S. Thanks to the folks at GC. It's a lot more sane to try an instrument on a Wednesday morning with nobody around ...

     

    Additional engines might be forthcoming, more possibilities for those that can edit on the software version.   And I wonder if they’ll do a 73/76 or an 88k weighted (not a stretch from their controller offering).

I have a suspicion that this particular advancement, as opposed to digital instruments and sampling (which has been embraced largely due to lack of access to all the analog and acoustic instruments it can sound like) will usher in a big musical luddite movement.  A marketing point (as mentioned above) “made without AI” both in recordings and live shows.  
     

    Social media clearly shows there are more people than ever in the world who are playing instruments, making art, writing books, etc. entirely without AI.   Do they/we really have any interest in filling our minds with robot art?  This type of material seems more inclined for commercial use in advertising, low budget soundtracks for video.  
     

    How hard will it become to tell the difference a year or three from now.  That remains to be seen.

    That’s true - particularly obvious in popular music.  So - what’s the answer to that?  Maybe there is no answer. Recording and publishing aren’t a viable business.  Back to concerts and merch.

    For example, here's a short list of songs that "ripped off" "What a Fool Believes". I've always wanted a software service that compiles lists like this automatically. But both Pandora and Spotify fall short of achieving this level of intelligence.

    I think that’s what I am trying to ascertain.  Is there a difference between recycling compositional elements and recording anew vs. sampling and actually reusing the inspired by recording?  
     

    For example, Taylor owns her re-recorded albums.  The original masters are owned by Scooter Braun.  There is some confusion there between mechanical and publishing rights.

    It seems certain that some of the future musical landscape will be AI-related, forever. I can foresee entire Sirius stations that play AI-generated music. I will think that's pretty cool. I just want it labeled as such, so people can still seek out people-generated stuff too. 

    Non GMO music. ;) 

     

    When we learn from recordings or from a teacher or from watching, listening, etc. we sit down a record ourselves, ya?  Or use royalty free or licensed samples for building arrangements, making a new recording.  I’m wondering how much of an AI generation is newly recorded or if samples used are being licensed.  
     

    But these are ideas that we are familiar with in our culture and governance.  There are plenty of regions in the world where IP isn’t a thing.
