  1. Try to get in touch with someone at Mafy, they should be able to help you out: http://www.mafy.se/mafy-foretagen/mafy-in-english/
  2. Fantastic! He certainly doesn't stick to no old rules of comping!
  3. Cool, I just know that I need to practice this more often.
  4. Using more and more of MS stuff these days, they really seem to have stepped up their game.
  5. Interesting array of controller options and the ability to seamlessly morph between presets or layers of sounds. Well ahead of its time.
  6. Unfortunately I'm old enough to remember these floppy disks and how you had to plan the setlist according to when new sounds were being loaded. We'll, we have come a long way since then.
  7. A pair of Sony mdr-7506 headphones. Not to replace my trusty AKG K-271 (mkII), which still sounds great, but to offer a second opinion on mixing. Also, I have to admit the Sony's are really more comfortable after a few hours.
  8. Combine the drinking and drumkey ideas with this one:
  9. I have used commercial music as well as posted covers on Youtube, and their automatic process actually works quite well. If the original composer doesn't allow this use, YT will let you know. Otherwise they will automatically add ads to pay the copyright owners (and stop you from getting any payouts). Seems fair.
  10. Care to explain your math here? If I'm not mistaken, the -12dB down from the ideal 96dB (at 16 bits resolution), would mean "wasting" ~2 bits. If you don't believe the math you can easily listen for yourself by recording at -12dB and compare to a 8 bit recording.
  11. Our small local theater has Meyer UPM1's, and they sound great. Not at all hyped (so some musicians will probably find them boring), but neutral and very nice for small ensembles, strings and speech.
  12. Nope, we've been on MIDI 1.0 all this time. 2.0 is the imminent upgrade, with the first controllers geared toward it hitting the market this year. Probably the longest running, widely used, 1.0 standard of all time. With all its flaws, I'd say "well done" to the original authors!
  13. Agreed. I have a lot of bad experience with using computers (i.e. Mac Mainstage, NI) instead of "real synths" for playing live, some really embarrassing and expensive failures... But the developers behind Gig Performer may actually be able to convince me to try it again. Super responsive and nice!
  14. Oh, the vibes, I'm drooling right now. Thanks for sharing!
  15. I also found it works surprisingly well (with modern digital stuff). However, older equipment, most notably the original LINN, were famous for going out of sync with seasoned studio drummers...
  16. Sad news. Never got to hear him live, but he's on so many of my favorite records. RIP.
  17. A good percussionist can play cowbell in any key. Not like those wannabes who will only play a cowbell with a transpose button. I only use the transpose button on my cowbell when they call a tune in some weird key like Eb. I can play cowbell in most keys without transposing. But sometimes at the performance they call a key that's a half a step lower than we did it in rehearsal. That's when I use the transpose button. If I have the cowbell part figured out in one key, it's safer to transpose than try to play in the new key and mess up. Yeah right, and then you'll forget to reset the transpose for the next song! Cowbell noob!
  18. I was curious about the Set List Maker as well; anyone using it regularly?
  19. That seems similar to the model I use for playing bass synth. Packs away quick and easy, relatively lightweight.
  20. Interesting! I intended to visit that NAMM session with the demos, but it was completely full. So I guess a lot will happen in the near future.
  21. Yes, it's like they wan't to be part of the buzz, but won't contribute. Well, I guess NAMM lives on anyway...
