Then Yamaha releases the CK88 and everyone dumps on it, like that can't be achieved without compromises somewhere.

Are you up for a nostalgic Keith Emerson sound design question?

Just to get back on topic... any chance the patch is this factory patch on the O1/w ? -

I think the ELPowell tour was the last time the GX-1 made an appearance, and possibly only as samples on tour. It's definitely featured on the album, but by the time of 3 to the Power of Three I think both of his units were out of commission. EDIT: Clearly on the tour the GX-1 was featured: -
Were 1970’s keyboardists sponsored? (Wakeman, Emerson, etc.)

Were the "Emerson Patches" Voice Crystal memory cards for the Alesis? -

Nope, that's totally built-in to the GX-1 and you can get close on the CS-80 and virtual replicants thereof. The "Worfulator" I believe is something else. -

"Monster Lead" or something like that was a Trinity patch, but yeah that still might not be early enough (1995). Thanks for the correction. ThirdApple is right that if you're looking for something similar to what KE used, it would be a good start, to see how it was constructed. Alternatively, old-school it with a minimoog lead with a distortion pedal and a wah should get you in the ballpark -

I believe that is a preset on the Korg Triton, some variant of "Monster Sync" or similar. -

You're right! How could i have forgotten that. I feel like that came later than the classic 70's touring period, though. In the 80's there was a lot of Korg endorsements, yeah. -

They were definitely not sponsored, and Keith Emerson has written about this :). On the other hand, Emerson got to play with Moog prototypes and i don't think Brain Salad Surgery would have been the same without them. Or the tour that followed. Wakeman I'm not so sure about, didn't he have his own company making Birotrons or whatever? That's the opposite of sponsored -
Hmm. It's nice... but 5.5 GB of samples I feel should deliver a little more. Maybe it's my ears but I want to turn up the treble. Oh well, no regrets. I like Crow Hill Co, I'll support them.

I'm a sucker for EPs and reverbs and I enjoyed the video. Thanks for posting this and putting it on our radar.

Has anyone tried modding an Arturia Keylab pitch wheel to have a lever instead of a dent? I'm so tempted to try drill/tapping a hole in that metal thing and installing one.

Better late than never... It's a great story, it's fantastic how much greatness can come out of challenging circumstances. "Constraints foster creativity"... don't know who said that first but it's true.

Nostalgia: Can we talk about the Fairlight?
StickMan393 replied to eric's topic in The Keyboard Corner
Just to be pedantic, the voice cards in the Fairlight operate in a way (variable sample rate?) that lends a different character to the sample playback, and can not be duplicated in today's Apps or yesterday's hardware samplers. In my opinion. Whether that really matters is subjective -

Cris Blyth is very entertaining but it's a long series, so pace yourself
