  1. I figured out how to fix the bender modulation. Clicked Menu, and then System. Then, in the Contol tab, I changed System Ctrl 1 Source to Cc01 Modulation. After I did that, the bender modulation works with almost all patches. From my research, this is a way to configure various things using something similar to midi. Within each patch, I can edit the sound produced by these system controls using MTrx CTRL like altering LFO. Since the change resulted in the bender modulation working for almost alk patches, it may be that System Cont1 was modulation out of the box and I changed it at some point...or, it wasn't set up right out of the box. For midi controller sounds, used the DAW to set the Pitch Bend range up and down for midi instruments (modulation settings for Juno DS works on midi instruments). Thanks to everyone that posted -posts helped.
  2. I have found a synth patch that has the bender modulation functionality. I am trying to figure out the difference between that patch and the others that don't have this functionality. I don't see anything different with the things on Parameter p.18. I emailed Roland support and they were not helpful. He said he didn't have the Juno DS available so couldn't give an exact answer.
  3. I have spent hours trying to figure this out but haven't yet. The sound I am looking for with the bender forward push is modulation-which is vibrato. I can't find the setting which makes the activation of the vibrato contigent on the bender (if that is what is going on). Roland support has not been much help.
  4. Thank you for the additional feedback. I dont see Offset in patch edit-I don't think it works with that. With Juno 106 bender, I could push it forward for modulation and release would stop modulation. That is what I want to do. I just emailed Roland Support on this. I'll post if they give me a solution.
  5. The other thing the bender bar is supposed to do is add vibrato-when I push it forward. Tips on how to configure this? I see that the bender adds the vibrato with some organ sounds but doesn't with synth sounds.
  6. Thanks a lot for the help on this. I press the Menu button, then Edit and Patch edit, select the Pitch tab, the edit the Pitch Bend ranges. This has to be done for each particular Patch I want to change. Then I need to Write the Patch as a new Patch or as the existing Patch (need to be careful not to wreck the existing Patch). Pretty complicated but I get it now and this opens the door to editing sounds generally with the Juno DS. Thanks
  7. The Juno DS has a pitch bender (instead of a modulation wheel) It was one reason I purchased it over other synths. The bender only adjusts the pitch by a half or full step. I would like to have it adjust the pitch by an octave or more. Is there an easy way to configure that? I can't figure it out after months of owning the synth. My first synth was a Juno 106. It had a bender and it had a much greater range. Could do some really interesting stuff on solos with it. Thanks for any information.
  8. Thanks for the clarification - I thought that might be the case - 1 expansion pack. It would be better to be able to upload more than one, or have them combined, but I presume there is a memory consideration. WIth my synth board, organ is an important instrument, as well as synth sounds, and EP to a lesser degree. I am seeing that expansion pack "2 Keys" has a lot of those type of sounds so I uploaded that. With the XV-5080 Collection Presets, I believe I have a maximum of 256 User presets I can upload to the Juno DS. So, what I did was open the Juno Library App and went through the 8 collections and picked 256 sounds I thought I might like. I used the Library app to copy and write the 256 to my Juno DS. I've listened to some of the added organ sounds and other sounds and it seems like a good improvement.
  9. Finding I actually can connect the Privia to the Juno with the traditional midi cord and control the Juno DS. (and the piano/EP Juno sounds sound better with the digital piano). Still would like to know whether the Privia signal could then go through the Juno midi usb to the computer (I don't think it can). Also the #1 question of my 1st post.
  10. I purchased the Juno DS-61 this past spring. I use it with a digital piano (Casio Priva) - so far home studio only, no gigs (I don't get many gigs). Prior to the purchase, I used a controller as my synth. I use Sampletank 4 primarily as my midi software. I posted in a previous thread on the forum that I switch to Korg Gadget/Module. I use that at well, but I have found that Sampletank works pretty well as midi software and has some better sounds - I had to test thousands of sounds on the Sampletank app to find decent ones. So far with the Juno DS-61, I find it fairly intuitive to use, synth key action pretty good, fairly solid construction, lightweight. However, the sounds don't measure up to the midi software sounds and am still using it more as a controller. Below are my questions: 1) Sounds - Not that happy with the sounds. Wish I could have tried the VR-09. So many positive posts on the VR-09. But I couldn't find it anywhere to try it out. With the Juno DS, have tried loading in the expansion sounds/patches from the Axial website. I am realizing I can only load in one expansion pack. Is that accurate? I have to pick one of the ten? That isn't made clear on the Axial website or almost anywhere else on the web. Would you know if the same is true for the Presets A-G? Is it the case with the Presets that there are a certain number of "User" sounds I can add and that therefore limits the Presets I can load? 2) Midi set up - the Juno DS-61 has a DAW mode for using midi software. It works pretty well. RIght now, I attach my two keyboards to my midi software/IPAD/PC running midi to USB cables from each keyboard to the computer. I would like to be able to attach the Privia (Midi out) to the Juno (Midi In) with a traditional midi cable. I want to be able to use the Privia as a controller with the Juno DS sounds. Also, with that midi setup, hoped I could connect the Privia to the Juno and then the Juno to the computer. Can't figure out how to do either of these things right now. Thanks for any suggestions on any of the above!
  11. I plan to run my keyboards through an audio interface into the speaker. Also have a mixer if that is needed. Getting the picture EVZXA1 is the best choice. But, I may have to go with QSC unless I can find it in a store somewhere. Thanks again for the helpful posts.
  12. Thanks to all for the feedback - very helpful as I need to make a decision soon. Sales person said the Bose S1 is louder than the QSC. Nobody on the post voted for the Bose so far. Is he trying to make the extra $200 or is it better? The QSC cp9 has the best reviews. EVZXA1 gets good reviews for loudness and sound quality but some complaints about reliability. Also, only one 1/4 inch input.
  13. I am going to do a gig indoors with a band for 50 to.100 people. I need an amp. I have a Roland.Mobile Cube - which I like - looking for something louder than that. Looking for something lightweight - 25 lbs or under. Will pay up to $600. I have read some of the posts on this topic. There seems to be a dislike of keyboard amps such as Rolands KB amps - preference is for powered speakers. Guitar Center recommends Harbinger 12 inch powered speaker or Bose S1. I saw they had a QSC 8 inch powered speaker for $200 less than the Bose S1. Wondering if that would work. My set up is two keyboards running through an IPad. Possibly will run that through an audio interface. This my budget rig that I have posted before on. I would like something I could also use with a mic and two keyboards. Thank you for any suggestions.
  14. For the sake of closure, I will provide an update on this thread that my budget setup ended up being Korg Module with Casio Privia and the Alesis Controller (for two keyboards). Korg Module is very good IPAD keyboard software with limited latency and quality sounds. I have used it in a lot in virtual jams, and some in live jams and it brought my sound quality to where it needed to be. I don't know yet if it will work with live performance. Combined with my audio interface, I think so but it is a lot of equipment pieces. The audio interface removes the possibility of dropoffs with notes which occurs occasionally with IPAD only. Works well with the Privia. Sampletank has a ton of interesting sounds but there is too much latency and unpredictability of sound quality for playing with others, and the interface is too complicated. Korg Module is easier to use
  15. I ended up purchasing Sampletank 4 Max (pc/ios) (there is currently (as of October, 2020) a sale for that product) The product has thousands of sounds. My goal is to make this my performance synth and I believe this will work for a while (though not good for jams where you play one or two songs as the setup is too complicated). I have been testing it for several weeks. It is a vastly improved product from earlier versions. The sounds are higher quality and there is less latency, and the interface is good. Negatives is that the product is too complex and the processing power in my laptop is high (but manageable). I also purchased Korg Module Pro (Ipad) and am trying that. The sound quality and latency seems slightly better than S4, but S4 has a lot more sounds for the price and several additional features. Worth getting free/entry level versions of both and comparing.
  16. I looked into IPad software and that brought me to IKmultimedia, who I knew had a look of IPad products. I had used another of their products in the past, Sampletank 2.5, with my PC. The version I had used did not work for me for performance, but I decided to try the more recent Sampletank PC versions and, combined with my audio interface and Alesis controller, that may be adequate as the budget keyboard I am looking for now. I am currently trying the free versions 3 and 4. They have decent response and feel. I actually like 3 - the earlier version-better. It is pretty easy to assign effects to the controls, and to edit sounds. Good set of sounds. The software seems to take a lot of processing and I have concerns about that. I will post further thoughts in the future. Opinions on Sampletank 3 or 4?
  17. AS, thanks a lot for sharing that chart. I did end up find a dealer with the XW-P1 but he raised the price on me and won't let me try the board as it is the only one left! It is clear from what I am reading that it is worth paying the $1,000 for the Roland VR-09 or Casio MZ-X500. So I will probably do that.
  18. Thanks a lot for the feedback. Some type of Nord will be the ultimate goal in a couple years to replace the Privia. But, right now I am looking for an organ/synth with unweighted keys. I am checking with a local Casio dealer to see if I can try a XW-P1. I have not been able to try the VR09 yet. With midi, I was hoping to use the synth to expand the sounds of the Privia - the Privia would serve as the controller. I have an iPad Air, but have not tried that yet with Midi.
  19. I was in a performing jamband this past year doing Grateful Dead and other covers. That band didn't work out, but hope do that again and/or a jazz band. My live rig consisted of a) Casio Privia PX-300, and b) Yamaha NP-30, and that was adequate for piano and EP sounds. However, these digital pianos did not cut it for organ or synth parts. Have tried to use controller/laptop for this in the past (as previously posted), and, as forewarned, that ended up being too complicated for me for the live situation. I have been shopping around for a 2nd keyboard to use as an organ/synth and which I can use to expand the Privia piano/EP sounds. Looking for something less than $1,000. Have tried the Yamaha mx series and Juno DS series, and they are adequate, but not ideal. I recently came across the Casio XW-P1 performance synth and plan to try that - that seems great on paper. Any recommendations on that synth? Other ideas? Here's a partial list of what I am looking for: Required features: A. Keys -61 or 76 -touch sensitive but not weighted, ideally full size (my issue with Juno DS is the key action) B. Wheelbars or bender (ideally bender) C. Midi -I want to be able to use the Privia PX-300 as a controller with the synth. Therefore need standard midi in/out rather than USB. D. Sounds/Effects -excellent performance level piano, organ, synth sounds. Ideally 500 plus sounds -A lot of effects so I can alter sounds to match what is needed. E. Construction/Weight - Solid (this is my issue with the mx series, along with the key size and general feel) -15 lbs or less F. Other -Splits Preferred features: drawbars for organ, battery powered, internal speakers, can save altered sounds Thank you for feedback.
