  1. you might have to install the latest OS unless it ships that way. Not a big deal though.
  2. I just got my M8x a few days ago and find the action on light side. I also have a CP88 and it seems like a lighter/faster version of that keyboard. I haven't a chance to play it too much yet but did play around with the organs for a while and it seemed to work fine. John
  3. Just the US site and it was still there: https://usa.yamaha.com/products/music_production/stagekeyboards/cp88_73/index.html
  4. I have the same impressions. I have a CP73 and the action feels like the Motif XF8.
  5. Yes, I was referring to the distortion effects (British Combo, etc.)
  6. The amp sim that is the front panel (Rtr A, B, Case, etc.) can be assigned to one part only. However, the Keys A and B effect slots have amp sims, distortion, and rotor effect you can select. John
  7. I bought the John Melas librarian software which makes it easy to keep organized. I have many custom built Live Sets and like to organize them groups (all APs together, all organs together, etc) and the software makes this relatively simple. It also made it easy to back up the factory Live Sets, delete the ones I don't want, and make room for my stuff. John
  8. Correct, that works. I've made that change on my YC as I almost all of my piano and EP patches have a pad or strings or something underneath and it was a real pain to have to adjust the foot controller every time I change sounds.
  9. Similar to what I did for my YC61, I created and uploaded to Soundmondo several CP73/CP88 Live Sets which might be useful for some. There are three distinct Rhodes programs each created by layering two different Rhodes voices together for a unique sound. There are some 70s/80s type Poly Synths, Mellotrons and the obligatory Jump patch (as close as I could get it). I hope you find them useful. John
  10. Ok, updated version of the first Fender Roads patch. I turned off the compressors, adjusted the EQ and lowered the velocity depth a little for both voices. I'll keep tweaking it, I never seem to stop tweaking my patches. Taxi 2.0.mp3
  11. You're right it's a bit bright. I don't notice it so much just playing the YC through phones but its apparent on the recording. Here's a sample of the Suitcase patch with a phaser on it. I made it a week ago when I didn't really know the song at all, but you can get the idea of the tone. Taxi Suitecase.mp3
  12. So here's a short clip of the Fender Rhodes live set I just made playing a riff from around 0:20 into the video followed by some brief noodling that I just made. I don't actually know the song so excuse the lack of skill on the performance. John Taxi Sample.mp3
  13. Thanks for the feedback. For the patches called Fender Rhodes and Suitcase Rhodes I was trying to get a sound like on the Bob James video where he playing a Suitcase himself. To my ears, it pretty close.
  14. Hey everyone, I finally got uploads to work between Soundmondo and my YC61. I uploaded three Rhodes patches that were created by layering two different Rhodes voices to get the desired effect. I compared the ones called Fender Rhodes and Suitcase Rhodes to that YouTube video of Bob James performing Angela (Taxi theme) with a Suitcase Rhodes in a trio setting and they sound pretty close to me. There are also two Mellotrons, Strings and one designed to sound kind of like Watcher of the Skies. Two versions of Jump patches, several Poly Synths created by layering different combinations of synth voices with an FM organ. Also a big modular Moog lead sound. You should be able find my content by searching on my last name (Nadelin). Hope you find them useful. It was fun creating them, and I'm glad to be able to share them. John
  15. I have the librarian and editor for the CP and YC as well. I am able to drag and drop patches and re-arrange them, but it does not update the CP in real time like the Nord software. What I do is first download all the live sets and save that as a back up. Then I save a new version of the same file and start re-arranging things the way I want them. When I'm done, I transmit everything back to the CP. Not as convenient as Nord but it gets the job, and I'm picky about how I like my stuff arranged and use lots of custom created live sets. Hope this helps. John
  16. So do I (CP73 and YC61 in my case). I'm pretty sure you cannot. I have the John Melas Librarian and Editor software for both keyboards on my laptop which allows me to upon and editor window for a particular patch and see all the parameters. I then try to recreate it as best as possible on the other keyboard. Of course, its not always possible to do so due the better effects capabilities of the YC, or the ability to use advanced mode on the PC for example. I have some big poly synth patches on my CP that stack three different synth voices to get some rich textures. Can't quite do that on the YC, but can get close with 2 voices and an FM organ. Hope this helps. John
  17. I finally created the Gentle Hamburg Live Set on my CP73 and got it to sound very close, if not the same as the YC version. I attached a single Live Set file here in case anyone wants to load it in their CP. Gentle Hamburg.X9S
  18. I don't have the CP and YC next to each other at the moment so creating the CP patch will have to wait a few days. That said, I did open the Gentle Hamburg patch in the Melas editor and a JPEG screen shot of it is attached. From what I can tell, the key parameters are as follows: Effect 1: Damper resonance depth/rate: 28/23 Effect 2: Compressor depth/rate: 38/55 Filter cutoff: 48 Tone: 16 The rest of the parameters should be visible in the screen shot. Like I said, I'll try to re-create the patch in my CP73 later this week and A/B them but the YC makes use of the filter cut-off which the CP does not support. John
  19. I have the YC61 and a CP73 and have the John Melas tools for both. I should be able to open the editor screen on the Gentle Hamburg preset on the YC and see how it's built. I'll have a better idea after that to what extent it can be ported to the CP. I'll let you know after I've had a chance to look into it. John
  20. After updating to V1.3, I noticed the Voice List numbers were now incorrect for some of the voices. Where new ones were added, the previous voice numbers shifted by 1 or 2. Being the completest nerd-type that I am, I recreated the V1.3 voice list in Excel and exported it to a PDF. It is attached in case anyone is interested. Oh, and I took a few liberties with a couple of the names, such as calling the Hamburg Grand what it really is. John YC61 Voice List.pdf
  21. I use the John Melas librarian/editor and it makes it easy. I only kept around 10 or so live sets from the update. Once I figured out which ones I wanted, I put them in a separate library file. Then I reloaded my personal live sets, which fill all available slots so I had to find 10 to get rig of to make room, then I loaded the V1.3 sets that I liked and reorganized them so my pianos are all together, synths, organs are together, etc. It's a nice software tool to have and I used it with my CP73 and MODX+ as well. There is link to buy it on the YC page at Yamaha Synth.com I think.
  22. Very true, and the reason the first thing I did with my MODX+ was load the Neo Soul Rhodes library. Problem solved.
  23. Yes, I am. Haven’t you seen the Bugs Bunny cartoon that explains it (starts around 2:00)?
  24. I think it's not so much who invented it as who discovered it.
