  1. This is so great. I became a huge Lee Michaels fan upon hearing Carnival Of Life for the first time in 1968. Followed his career until he retired. In ensuing decades I would periodically try to find out what he was up to but info was pretty scarce and sparse. Mostly what I could find was that he was really deaf and was loathe to talk about his music. I also read in Keyboard mag that he had come onstage in some club in CA. with a Gleeman Pentaphonic synth in a shopping cart and performed under the name Pay Toilet. The aforementioned is why I’m so glad to see him resurface as an apparently happy guy who is obviously not stone deaf. Been watching his podcast and he cracks me up. Seems like a really good guy. Having played a bunch of his material through the 70’s I can truly say he was a real inspiration and musical hero to me. Eight or ten years ago my first real working band from ‘69 through ‘73 did a reunion show that included Hello at my insistence. Lee, thank you for being one of those who showed so many keyboard players the way.
  2. Jim, Thank you so much for the comprehensive post explaining how you changed the SK2 to an internal power supply. I’ll bet it will benefit more than just yours truly. Dave Bryce, having read this entire thread I’ve come to the conclusion that you have the patience of a saint. Many thanks for all you do.
  3. Hey Jim, You mentioned converting your SK2 to an internal power supply a few posts back. Might you care to elaborate on what that entailed? I’m wondering about location, method of fastening, what ps was used, overheating risks, keeping a jack open to use an external ps if the internal one craps out, and any other info you could provide. This is something I would love to do to my SK2. Out of my three H/S clonewheels the SK2 is the only one with an external supply and as you know, it’s a pain. Thanks.
  4. His Hammond sound changed my life. I had the good fortune to see Spooky Tooth and a few years later his keyboard heavy Dream Weaver band which opened for Frampton. In both he was great. Better yet,I got to meet the man and have a brief chat following his one man ( plus accompanist) show.. That was about 2014. That was a different but good show. He came across as a nice, mellow guy.
  5. Another ATH M50 fan here. When the earcup foam started to break down on mine I replaced it with extra thick foam earcup pads. Very comfortable.
  6. 100% greatness indeed. Thanks for posting this. Long time Brian Auger fan here. At an age when most have long since hung it up he just keeps growing. Seems like a regular guy who happens to be a musical genius. Dr. Mix’s apparent hero worship is well founded.
  7. ES, Thanks for the Rumble response.
  8. ES, Sorry to derail but I have to ask if you ever tried the PX 330 through the Rumble and if so how did it sound?
  9. Thanks Zydecat and Ken for your impressions of the Bossa aids. Zydecat, please keep us updated over the next couple of weeks. Sounds like you’re off to a good start.
  10. Zydecat, Glad to hear that Bossa came through with the product. Being a candidate for hearing assistance after a life of rock&roll, race cars and hot rods (just ask my wife) I’ll be eagerly awaiting your review. I wish you great success with these units.
  11. When the dust settles I will be contributing. This forum is very valuable to me and getting on here is one of the high points of my day. Thanks for all you do D.B.
  12. Zydecat, Good to hear you were able to make contact with Bossa. I’m very interested to hear your and Ken’s take on these units. Thanks for keeping us in the loop.
  13. Aw hell. I had hopes for the Bossa aids. Zydecat’s post about being unable to make contact with Bossa is a real bummer. Hopefully that situation will resolve. I’ll keep my eye on this thread with fingers crossed.
  14. Chummy, You state that the SKPRO line is “plagued with software and hardware bugs.” That’s a pretty broad statement. Care to elaborate? What are these bugs and where can we Iearn more about them? Also,is KRK Marcoballa on YouTube.? I’d like to hear more about his clicky SKX PRO keys. Thanks.
  15. As I understand it,pitch bend is introduced with the lever on the left end but what about modulation, typically vibrato?
  16. Very sad. She was a very tasteful player and her voice was simultaneously gentle and powerful. No overwrought caterwauling or showboating for this lady. Her performances were always admirable. A very apt word to describe her is lovely. Like Kuru,I saw FM during the Bob Welch, Bare Trees era. Same lineup of bands except substitute Silverhead for Rory at Gaelic Park in New York. All three bands smoked. Before the concert started we heard this roaring heavy sounding Lesliefied Hammond from backstage. At first I assumed it was Jon Lord’s but at that time he was playing through Marshalls. I thought maybe he had returned to using Leslies. Turns out it was Christine’s. Interesting dichotomy between that pure voice and the grinding Hammond sound coming from the same person. RIP lovely lady.
  17. Is there any reason not to use two matching mono DIs for stereo, one L one R ?
  18. Good to hear from those who didn’t suffer much damage. Events like this really instill perspective.
  19. Since wattage specs don’t seem to mean much, tone and spl ratings are what counts to me. The thing that gave me hope about the Rumble was my experience playing through a small bass amp (single 12) while rehearsing in a recording studio. It was loud and even with digital pianos sounded really good . Damned if I can remember what make or model it was. I also encountered a friend playing a club gig through a two twelve cabinet that sounded really good. Playing through a small Alto a while back left me unimpressed but I hear they’ve come a long way in the last couple of years. Unless I feel adventurous maybe I’ll just keep lugging around the heavy stuff . At least it is proven. We’ll see. Thanks for the responses.
  20. Rob,I tend to agree with Kuru Prionz about cheap treble “horns”. Having played digital pianos through many different speaker combinations since the late 80s when dps became a thing,I’ve encountered some that sounded quite good even without a treble horn and some with awful sounding horns. Yes, there are people with misgivings regarding cheap treble horns (two right in this thread). I agree that blowing a treble driver is much rarer than it used to be. Of course,I’ve used and still own some glorious sounding full range systems as well but I’m really trying to lighten the load in my newest rig. As for running mono either for monitoring or foh here’s the” logic”. There have been situations in which I preferred or have to run mono. I like to be ready for anything. As I’m sure you know, there are modern boards that output mono or stereo. Some Nords include a stereo/ mono switch.Every board I’ve owned since the late 80’s has included a L/mono output which sounded good except for one Yamaha piano. I guess I’ve been lucky in that respect. While the mono vs stereo debate is legendary on this forum I really prefer having a convenient choice . The Runble’s wooden cabinet appeals to me too compared to a molded cab. In my last post I was simply spitballing regarding the possibilities involved in using a couple of Rumble 100s in either mono or stereo and was looking for input. Logical? Perhaps, perhaps not.
  21. These guys are great. What a shame nobody seems to be paying any attention except for one woman at the left of the screen who is into it. If I was there I’d be applauding like crazy.
  22. Mentioned earlier in this thread was the possibility of running two rumble 100s for keyboards in stereo. I also wonder if there is a good way of ganging two of these together in mono. Since they have an input gain control would it be feasible to run the line out of one into the input of the other.? I assume the line out is balanced so could it be a problem running into the unbalanced instrument input of the other? For mono how about running a y cord from a keyboard or mixer with each side going into each amp? A stereo rig with two of these would actually be easier. Also, the Rumble 100 has no tweeter to blow out or sound bad. The size and weight of these amps intrigues me.
