I knew that Dickie had health problems, and that things were going downhill for him. Even though this news is not unexpected, it's still sad. He was a terrific guitar player and songwriter, and he will be missed.

Plus, when you ask a serious question, you get really good answers from people who have a lot of knowledge and experience with music. JD just came by a few minutes ago with two new CD's. I bought both of them, even though it's not really my favorite type of music. Hey, the guy is out there selling his music, so he definitely has ambition. Besides, my dog Rocky liked him, so I know he's a good guy.

Some performers who are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: Bad Company, Boston, Joe Cocker, Emerson Lake and Palmer, J. Geils Band, Grand Funk Railroad, Guess Who, Iron Maiden, Jethro Tull, Steppenwolf, Styx, and many others who are far more deserving than Mary J. Blige, Kool and the Gang, A Tribe Called Quest, Mariah Carey, etc.

Although I was born in Detroit, and I've lived in suburban Detroit most of my life, I have never met or seen Wayne Kramer. What a shame, I think he would have been a fun guy to talk with.

This afternoon I was at the gym, riding an exercise bike while reading the book "The Last Days of John Lennon" by David Patterson. I read how The Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show on February 9, 1964, and I said "Hey, that was sixty years ago today!" I've been so busy lately with a situation that I will write about in the near future that I completely forgot about the Beatles sixtieth anniversary. In fact, it is technically now February 10th as I write this. Anyways, thank you John, Paul, George, and Ringo, for changing the lives of so many people for the better with your music. And on a side note, the name of the despicable psycho who murdered John Lennon should never be mentioned. Evil should not be glorified.

We have had this discussion here before, but not in recent years. Here is my opinion on the subject. I own five pedals so far, and two Digitech multi-effects processors (MFX). If you are a serious musician who either records in a studio or plays live for paying audiences, you would probably be best served by using individual pedals, so you can get the exact sound that you want. If you are a non-professional musician that just likes to play around the house (in other words, me), then the MFX is hands down the smartest way to go. For instance, my Digitech RP-1000 can do more than $10,000 worth of pedals can do. I have lots of phasers, flangers, wah wahs, distortion and overdrives, reverbs, delay/echos, amp simulators, cabinet simulators, loopers, noise gates, and all kinds of stuff all in one package. Does the RP-1000 sound the same as my Electro Harmonix Big Muff Pi Ram's Head version? Almost. Close enough and good enough for what I do here at the house.

FWIW, in my landscaping and catering work, I drive all over, and in just under 30 years, I've found somewhere around 50 dogs, running loose. We have gotten ALL of them safely back home, but for Nemo, who was clearly supposed to find his way here, to us.
If I found a bag with $1,000,000 in it tomorrow morning, that bag of money would still only rate as the second best thing I'd ever found by the side of the road: Nemo is #1!
FWIW - I did NOT name him after the little lost fish in the movie. I named him that because he had no name, no backstory when he came to us, and "Nemo" means "no one" in Latin.
Happy birthday, Nemo. My late dog Baron lived to the ripe old age of 15 years and 4 months, and I hope you exceed that a lot.

The bottom knobs are Tone and Tone.
The pedal is "TWO overdrive pedals in one box."

Both pedals have two cases of VD, but the clone has two toggle switches that hopefully do something, while the real one has one toggle switch. And the clone has a stippled finish on the top of the pedal chassis, while the real one has a smooth finish.

Elvis Presley was born on this day (January 8 ) in 1935. Now, I happen to believe that Elvis died back in 1977, but there are some folks out there that still think he's alive. Either way, happy birthday to the most influential person of the second half of the 20th century. If it wasn't for Elvis, rock and roll probably would have never achieved the popularity that it did, which means we would not have had The Beatles, the British Invasion, the hippie culture, Seventies arena rock, disco, MTV, heavy metal hair bands of the Eighties, and everything else musical that was popular. It all comes back to Elvis.

You got stainless steel frets. What a great idea! I have them on my Carvin and my Kiesel guitars. They're the best. There was this guitarist named Edward Van Halen who was also a huge fan of stainless steel frets. I don't know if you've ever heard of him, but he used to be kind of popular. Anyways, it's a beautiful guitar. I love that clear deep gloss finish that brings out the woodgrain.
