  1. @Al CodaAPC 650 UPS backup & surge protector. $91.99 at Staples. I have used this with my whole keyboard rig plugged into it. Has saved me twice now when the band had power interruptions. No, it isn’t a power conditioner, but that’s not what I needed. I only needed what this unit does and it does it very well.
  2. Reading Jim Alfredson’s post really shocked me. Any band/ musician using a Kronos and doesn’t have it plugged into a UPS is not a pro act. Such a simple thing being overlooked is inexcusable to me. Yes, the Kronos was and still is a beast but the long boot time has been known forever and all but nullified with the addition of a $100 ( not even!) dollar UPS. I am not faulting Jim here, it wasn’t his keyboard, he was just using what was given to him as a sub keyboardist.
  3. Dave Ferris, I was shocked when I heard how good my piano VSTs sounded thru the DXR8 mk11s. Like I said, they were almost studio monitor quality, especially at lower volumes. And yes, the QSC8.2s were backordered till who knows when. I narrowed my choice to the EV ZXA1 and these Yamahas. I am very glad I chose the yammies. Get them, you won’t regret it. One word of caution, at higher volumes there IS a noticeable hiss from these, I keep my volume at about 10 o’clock and they are quiet. It sounds like you won’t be playing at high volumes so you are good, but if you do hear hiss, back off speaker volume till it’s gone. I plug both stereo cables from my USB mixer (or interface) into input 1 L/R on one speaker, set volume to 10oclock, and use an XLR cable out of that speaker into the other one. Done.
  4. I use two DXR8 mk11 s in my solo act. Love them. They are almost like studio monitors because of their flat response. And lightweight. You won’t have as much bottom end of course but I do goose the EQ and it helps. The FOH DSP setting on these is supposed to favor more bottom end, but at higher volumes you will miss some lows. My solo act is mostly piano based so not have the extreme lows really doesn’t affect my sound.
  5. I’m not sure what the original poster is asking here? Bill5 already has a financial advisor, it is stated in his post. FWIW, Bonds have NOT been being the “stable hedge” they traditionally were and IMO are not where any retirees money should be put. But if we are talking about retiring in general, the correct mindset and planning for what you are going to spend your time doing AFTER you retire is really important. I know, I just retired 3 months ago.
  6. Ok, picked up a pair of the Yamaha DXR8 mk2s, and they sound great. Acoustic pianos (VSTs)sound clear and uncolored. These speakers have 3 DSP EQ settings, one for FOH that boosts bass, one that is flat, and one that cuts bass (when using these as wedge monitors. I will be using these on speaker stands so will most likely use either FOH or flat setting. Nice handle and light enough for me. I think these will be keepers, thanks for the opinions
  7. Delaware Dave, I ended up trading it in to music store for a pair of the DXR 8s. Thanks for the reply anyway
  8. Gonna pick up a pair of powered speakers for a solo keyboard + vocal + backing tracks type setup for myself playing piano VSTs and singing 50s - 70s type popular songs. Right now the QSC 8.2s are sooo backordered ( Sept- Nov) so not gonna wait that long, I can get a pair of either of these right now ( but not in the store so can’t listen to them). Anybody have any recommendations of one model over the other? Also gonna try to trade in my PC361 towards this purchase. What’s a fair price for it ya think? Was gonna take $500 at the lowest.
  9. Yes, gonna experiment with 100% mix thru Camelot and see how bad the latency is. Right now I’m downloading some free audio FX Plug-ins. EQ among them. I will report back with my findings for anyones reference. Really impressed with Camelot Pro so far. Works flawlessly. Very stable.
  10. Actually, the more I learn about Camelot I do realize that yes, this can be done. Gotta download some free FX plugins and give this a try, thanks again !
  11. Thanks Reezekeys, I will look at this option. Guess I’ll try a free plugin first. I’m still finding my way around Camelot Pro so I’ll have to figure out how to get the input 1 (mic) working separate from Camelot.
  12. Yes, David R, I think some sort of simple effects unit/ pedal in between my mic and the audio interface makes sense, thanks, forgot about that. Gonna look at the TC helicon stuff but really want to keep it low cost, don’t need overkill.
  13. Could use some advice/ suggestions on a solo setup. I plan to use Camelot pro on my PC laptop with a midi controller to read PDF charts and play backing tracks while I play the keyboard parts and sing. I plan to use a stereo (2 QSC 8.2s) sound system. All should work fine using an audio interface out to the 2 QSCs. My question is how best (and simplest) way to get a vocal mic with some reverb into this setup. If I plug the mic into one of the two inputs of my audio interface, it would be a dry signal ( no effects). Is my only option to buy a small mixer with built in effects? If so, what would y’all recommend? Any other ideas?
  14. I owned an SL88 studio and returned it because the TP100LR action was too sluggish and stiff. I assume the SL73 is the same? Not sure. I know the Studiologic Grand 88 controller has TP40L which is MUCH better action. I just don't like the panel controls on the studiologic controllers
  15. My band plays this song (I play it in on a Kronos) and it is really fun to play. Once you get the timing down. I play it with two hands. I actually bought a soundset from Dave Champagne at Aurora Sounds. He had YouTube video tutorial of how to play it. I watched it once and had it down. But it did take me several months of gigging it with the band before I could sing along with the lead singer while playing it. It"s very much like playing triplets a third apart, but then has a twist during the second half of the chorus. I remember another band"s keyboard player being at one of our shows and saw me playing it and came up to me afterwards and said something like ' Oh, so that"s how you play that part !'
  16. Yes, Nautilus FB forum is VERY helpful. And the 7-Zip worked well with the EXs318. I am VERY happy I got to install and authorize my (previously purchased for my Kronos) KApro EXs19 Signature collection on the Nautilus. The funny thing is, on the new Korg shop, it doesn"t show my Kronos as using it. So I can use it on TWO more if I wanted !
  17. Bang and Olufsen have a nice over ear, noise cancelling pair. I own them for at home play. I use in ears while playing live. Sennheiser always has nice products as well but not familiar with those.
  18. Lars Harner, same thing happened to me with the EXs318 . Let me know if you get it unzipped in another way. I emailed the Korg shop and told them it wouldn"t unzip. All the others worked fineâ¦..
  19. Like many others who have commented, I can eliminate clonewheels #3 (too midrangey, fast Leslie is too fast) and #5 ( wet blanket ) And like others have said, I"d be happy with the remaining three, but like Moonglow said, #4 has a clarity and balance with the distortion so if I had to pick one, it would be #4. As a side comment, from memory only, I actually think #3, with the midrange prominent, sounds closest to the album recording of YIND. But I don"t prefer that tone.
  20. Yes, Dave Weiser has many custom programs for the Forte. I also bought third party sounds for my Forte from Barbandco.com. Excellent programming from him. Also, there are 'legacy' sounds and other free sounds on KURZWEIL website for Forte. Finally, join the Forte Facebook group. It"s files section has tons of free programs. A few are mine. I have added hundreds of sounds over the years to my Forte from various sources and I love how it has evolved my sound pallete. Just lookâ¦.plenty of content out there for Forte. Just not all in one place like Kronos, Fantom and MODX is.
  21. Roland's Fantom, RD88, and Jupiter X all offer the ability to load older Roland PCM libraries, among them two or three complete sets of acoustic pianos. Those sounds haven't gone away. You just have to put them into thier newer keyboards.
  22. First of all, wow...there are alot of old farts in this group! Yes, nevermind I am one of them. Having worked straight 36 years in my industry as of next year, and will be turning 60 next Spring, yes, I am retiring from my 40+ hour/week day job. I have been playing music as a side hustle and hobby since I was 16 years old and for my retirement I don't see that changing except possibly playing even more often, or with several groups. I have set up a dedicated spare bedroom in our now "empty nest" house as a music studio and plan to learn how to use a DAW and VSTs to finally record some of my original ideas. In a few short years, our youngest will graduate college and then my wife and I will downsize into smaller house much closer to family AND A BEACH. As Adan has mentioned in his post, we plan on being close enough to a major city to enjoy it's culture, arts scene, amenities, eatery venues, which pretty much guarantees my ability to find my next working part time 70s to 2000s band to gig with. I have researched many articles/forums and a few books about being happy in retirement and a common theme among them is to make sure your life has purpose still. For 36 years a large part of my purpose was career driven goals. To make money, save and invest that money, and better my career position. Well, as of next year, that all will be over. I will be living off that investment and many years of saving and hard work advancing my career. A BIG change in mindset is almost upon me. Something else HAS to takes it's place. Something that makes you want to get out of bed EVERY day. For many that might be some form of volunteering. It's likely that I may volunteer as a musician in a hospice/nursing home. I remember what joy and escape music brought to my mother and the others in her memory care facility. These articles also suggest some form of structure/routine for each day/week. That might sound really contrary to enjoying your well earned freedom and "do nothing" time, but some people thrive with structure and well planned time. I am one of those people. Have something that takes you your of the house at least 3 or 4 days a week. Also social interaction on a regular basis. I am a planner type person so I can see myself making a schedule for myself. But everything on that schedule will be there because I want it there (or my wife does ;>) Yes, I wish all current and future retirees here the best. Let's learn from one another what works, what maybe doesn't work (for some). And share in successes !
  23. Might be too much reggae but since I'm originally from Baltimore area, I'll suggest "No regular woman" by the Ravyns
