  1. So I've had my SSV3 for a year now - wow - definitely went through some learning curve to get it dialed - but this is one amazing little unit - have used it for solo piano, mostly use it with different live bands, with the little and low angled amp stand on it's side within a couple of feet of me - that way I hear myself most and don't hurt any of the other players... at home I hook it up to my C2 via a small mixer (the C2 output is HOT!) and my original ventilator as well as my AI ten2 as a sub - PHAT sounds... thank you Aspen!
  2. I ordered this from SW Thurs, selecting the free delivery option. Arrived at my house Friday morning, gigged with the SS sideways on this stand Sat. night on another crowded stage. Amp was about 5 ft. from me, in back slightly to the left. I was stage right again. Best band mix yet!The band and I all could hear me great. Organ on top octaves of VR-09 was not as ear piercing at high volumes as when the amp was straight up but was very clearly heard. EP's sounded great. AP sounded a bit harsh with just me and the SS at high volumes during set up but later meshed with the band (Tom Petty Tribute) beautifully! As a matter of fact this was the best I have ever been able to hear myself play in a band situation. It definitely makes the gig more relaxing and more enjoyable when you can hear what you are playing and know that the audience can as well! thanks so much for reposting - just ordered mine - been loving my ss - haven't been on the forum for a while - amazed to still see this thread still on page one... guess there's no end to the conversation...
  3. the fazioli XL has become my go to piano - it didn't do it for me in mono through the AI ten2, but with the SS it's pretty awesome! and Dave - would love to hear your thoughts on the SS run post your special pre-amp if you get a chance to try that configuration... played a semi out door gig last night in a covered courtyard with a column in the middle of the stage area - SS was a couple feet behind me - I have taken to always traveling with my 1'x2' plastic bi-fold to reduce the variables of the venue - singer (on the other side of the column) wanted me to turn up but I already felt like I was blasting myself - realizing now that another option could be to turn the SS away from myself so I am not in the direct line of fire... audience comments were positive...
  4. I tried it, ended up being too muffled for my taste although in retrospect I could have played with the SS eq's... how'd it work out for you?
  5. Aspen's the man! Thanks for the insightful report Dave - hope you encounter better room acoustics the next time you try... the other thing I've been playing with to improve my own perception of the "bloom" is to get the space station as far away from myself as possible - even got a fresh pair of twenty foot cables for just that purpose - my bifold baffle also seems to help when there's a bunch of stuff on stage...
  6. Good catch Mike, correction made, thanks! "Just place your SS3 facing directly into a corner, about 1-2 feet away, thereby creating a poor man's Klipsch horn." Proving once again, I really shouldn't post before my morning coffee! tried that - too muffled for my taste... anyone else try?
  7. it's now sunday night thereafter and no word on how the test run went - hmmm, speechless are we? looking forward to the full scoop Dave!
  8. nice write up - kind of nails it... tempted to link to some friend key players that have not heard mine yet, but then again, feel like I'm
  9. thanks for sharing that - I'll have to play around with the mids and trebles on my AI-ten2 that now serves on occasion as my sub...
  10. Id be happy to arrange a loaner Dave, I'll PM you with my contacts. hopefully under the condition that you provide a full report to the forum Dave... looking forward to hearing about your discerning experience!
  11. At a party gig last night the band was set against the back wall of a living room facing out across the room and through wide open sliding doors onto a deck - I ended up in the "stage" left corner next to the drummer - perfect opportunity to try out facing the ss back into the corner to create that "poor mans klipsch horn" as I think Aspen put it a ways back in this thread - well - I was underwhelmed - just didn't get the high end clarity (I was playing exclusively B3 through my sk1) and the highs were muted... didn't take long for me to turn back forward facing out of the corner... I realized later I could have spent more time adjusting eq's on both the ss and the sk1, (I messed with the sk1 eq a little, but no satisfaction there) but at that point it was sounding great and I couldn't be bothered to turn the ss around again and mess with it... unrelated to that - I thought I was plenty loud sitting a few feet away from the ss and a couple of the partiers mentioned the organ sounded great - so it was interesting to hear later from our frontman who was stage right on the other side of the drummer that while he could hear me, he would have preferred louder...
  12. maybe you could buy one, enjoy it, or not, (in which case you could return it) and report back...
  13. +1 I'd have to concur - just played an outdoor gig running my nord, 3 vocal mics and an accordion mic through the ss with my AI ten2 underneath it as a sub - sounded great from my perspective as well as according to some of the party guests...
  14. ahh - the kalifornians coming out of the woodwork.... grooovy...
  15. you are of course totally correct and as Aspen has commented before, adding just a bit of effects makes any mono patch come completely alive - this has certainly been my experience - I'd say the SS puts the whole stereo vs mono discussion to rest, certainly in regards to stage sound...
  16. I've run straight out of the SS sub out to FOH as well as stereo off my mixer when using two keyboards and my sub... will be trying the XLR out on my sub to FOH some time soon... curious to see how the FOH compares mono to stereo with the SS... re loudness - the dead tribute band I play in likes it really loud... even without the sub my SS can be painfully loud - and with the sub no contest... I've been asked to turn it down, don't think I've ever turned it up beyond 2, 12 being at the top and 5 max...
  17. thanks for posting Autumn - glad to see Aspen is getting some real traction
  18. cannot run same instruments through more than one ss... check out the FAQ's...
  19. just here at the house - two mikes, uke, guitar, 2 keyboards through a yamaha 10ch mixer into the ss sitting on top of and into an AI ten2 as subwoofer - seriously impressed...
