Hello Myles. I have a mesa boogie dc-2 studio caliber. Plays good to about 20 min. Then it starts killing the volume til you can't hear it. Let cool down same thing. Replaced power tubes no fix. Any help is appreciated. Thanks ben

well i have replaced the EL34's with the 6L6's. I really can't
hear the difference. So I will be using the proper tubes 6L6's.
Out of curiousity what will happen if you do use EL34 in an amp
that requires 6L6's? If it damages the amp i don't know if I want
to buy this one cause it has had EL34's in it and i have no idea
how long!
thanks Ben

hello and thanks for all the advise you give.
I am looking at buying an Ampeg R-12 Reverberocket reissue.
the amp i am looking at sound great and everything works on it.
the question i have is there are 2 EL34's for power tubes.
All the info I can find say there should be 2 6L6's. It looks
like i could still put 6L6's in the sockets. has this amp been
modified? Is this ok will it harm the amp? if it was modified
how can i check it to make sure it was done properly? I like the way the amp sounds now so I would like to leave the EL34's in there if it won't harm the amp.
thanks Ben

Hey Myles
I have a mesa/boogie studio cal.
recently the low end has become loose or like
a low end flutter
is this my power tubes?
I haven't replaced them for at least a year.

Hi Myles
couple years ago I received this old amp from my music teacher.
I have no idea the year or model but I would guess 50's.
the brand is National.
It sound real clean but it used to shock me.
It only had a 2 prog plug.
I put in a 3 prong plug, connecting the ground to the
chasis. It don't shock me anymore, but I'm afraid something
else is the problem and this might be a dangerous fix.
also the tubes in this amp are not familiar to me
could this be a problem to replace them?
thanks myles any info
is helpful

thank for the great info !!
my amp is a clean machine now!

which one is the phase inverter??
so I put in a 5751 and all I can say is wow thanks manHi Myles,I seen in some early post you gave advise to tame an amp.
I own a mesa boogie studio caliber. a little 20 watt gem.
I love everything about this amp but I would like to tame the
clean channel. get a little more volume before it breaks up.
but I still want it to break up a little if ya know what i mean.
thank for any advise you can give.
Put a 5751 in V1. If that is not enough then a 12AY7.
what would happen if i replace all the preamp with 5751's
also I need to replace the power tubes
I think this amp is auto biasing too
the book say you have to buy mesa tubes but can I
get groove tubes?? they seem a little more quailty.
Preamp tubes in V1 and the phase inverter if 5751's would yield more clean headroom.
As far as output sets and Mesa to GT conversion look here:
http://www.guitaramplifierblueprinting.com/Rating.html
and do they go in order?? v1 v2 v3 ect....
the valve closest to the input jack is v1 i'm guessing.
cause it's the one that seemed to clean the amp up the most.
