  1. So how does the space station (without a sub) perform as an on stage monitor, say, in comparison to a couple of powered monitors of a similar price?

I usually play through FOH with my own DI/monitor just for keys. Is the space station the wrong tool for the job in this case? Gigs are normally 100-150 bar/club gigs and while I'm open minded about not going through FOH I may have to.

I use the SS3 exactly this way; it's my on-stage monitor; my keys go through the mains. It's terrific. We're 12 piece cover band, and I don't have any very low end (for some of the latest hip hop stuff) on stage, but the mains take care of that just fine. I used to use two QSC K8s on poles pointed at my ears. I prefer the SS3, no question. The band hears me better, the stereo sweet spot is not isolated to just me. The K8's are higher fidelity, but I am about the happiest I have been with my on stage monitor using the SS3. And I've tried many amps.

  2. My original v3 was from the run where the jacks on the back panel aren't sealed so I always had to stick a 1/4" plug in the "sub" out to keep the amp from farting when it got hit hard with bass notes...

Dave, can you explain this a little more? I thought I head read this entire thread, but don't remember seeing anything about this, and I have that problem with the low end "farting" when the volume is pretty loud. What is this plug you're using, and how does it help?

    Thanks,

    -Mike

  3. I think the banning of Aspen is a drag. I love this forum and I totally appreciate your efforts, Dave. But Aspen's presence and perspective have been important factors for me as well. I hope you can find it in your heart to make it a temporary ban, and that he will stick to forum rules in case you let him back.

+1. It's rare to get such candid feedback publicly from the manufacturer/developer/inventor. Guess we just need to find another place to do that. Not mad at Dave, rules is rules, but the interaction here is why I bought my SS and love it.

  4. Thinking of buying a new keyboard amp and this thread caught my attention. Too many pages to go thru so I apologize if these Q's have already been asked.

Is this loud enough to use as a monitor in a live rock band setting (full drum kit, bass, guitars, etc)? We mic all the instruments as we are not particularly loud.

Does the sub out work as a line out (to PA) or is it already EQ'd to put out low frequency only?

My keyboard is a Hammond SK1; my current keyboard "amp" is a JBL Eon G2.

I think you will love the SS based on your use case. I use it for my on-stage monitor in a 12 piece funk/cover band that's pretty loud. This little speaker has the power if you need it, and unlike the pair of QSC K8's they replaced, the sound can be heard by the entire band. It's not quite as "hi-fi" as the K8s, and first that can be bothersome. But now I can't imagine any other speaker. Small, light for it's power, it's a great amp. Where do you live? Maybe someone near you has one that you can hear?
