  1. Okay, experiment... Not a reharm, but a recent original piece done in a very simple minor style. My first recording of Eric's 700GX, so I thought it would fun to do something different. Split keyboard, left hand harp, right hand piano, in real time. I just now redid it, so this version is slightly better than the first link. http://www.divshare.com/download/4881718-a56
  2. Thanks for sharing, Leberwurst. A different rendition, but I have to say the musical point sort of alludes me on this one.
  3. Thanks man. Well, it wasn't the most varied or inspired thing we ever played, but there's always a few moments. Yeah, Mike passed last year. Paul, the bassist is still with Tony Bennett. These sessions were in his basement, his piano, and the next room had 9 upright basses he'd pick from. Glad you liked it.
  4. Leberwurst, I wanted to hear more. Sounded good. "If I Should Lose You" was so nice, Dave. I liked the mixed bag of stuff: the two hand lines, the Ab7 on the 3rd beat of the 3rd bar of the head going out, and those high descending F# "based" lines over the F maj7 in your solo. I haven't been able to record recently, so here's a laid back trio video of the same tune I already had, from 9 years ago. http://www.divshare.com/download/3833272-28f Of course, you play it differently in trio than solo. This one's pretty 'middle of the road' and potentially boring... not sure if I posted it here before. Stupid video effects once added to it didn't help either. It's 9 min., so it may pause while it loads up - Aarrgghh.
  5. Thanks for posting it, Lerberwurst, but I couldn't get it to play either.
  6. Yeah kanker, nice flowing lines, chops and groove.
  7. I assume that Singer Unlimited type Beatle's song was kad's offering. He did the vocals himself - it is impressive; in harmony and intonation. Cash = good.
  8. Yeah, I liked the Tatumesque ending, with the sort of musical disclaimer at the end. Your new nickname is now "Chops." I liked the way Monk did that song too.
  9. It was the EP distorting, setup that way - I thought it would be funny to demo the GX with full blown distortion. I don't have a version per se of Tones FJB, but I might do a quick sample of that and the acoustic sample from the GX, when I get time. Gigs are suddenly getting in the way.
  10. Dave, "Isfahan" is the best recording you've done yet. In fact, at the first few bars, I had to look at the title to see it was the GX and not your piano. Nice, NICE playing on it. For some reason, it brought back another tune that I'd forgotten about I used to play: Mingus's "Ellington's Sound Of Love." Another one: Monk's "Pannonica." Yeah Richard, it does have a club feel in here.
  11. Nice pairing of tunes, Dave, and nice, relaxed exploring on them. The recording/piano sounds better too.
  12. Truly beautifully done, kad. Not just the imaginative harmonies, but the sustained chords (and arrangement) elevate it to something more. Applause, and thanks for putting it up. Jazzwee - Thank you from all of us here in "The Room", and take your time... there's a lot of stuff on these pages.
  13. Really good playing again, Dave. Those spots of chromatic movement of chords you use always work and never sound contrived. Your subtle endings have a refined, somewhat unresolved quality, which shows good instincts and control over the material. Thanks for posting that.
  14. Yeah, that was nice, Linwood. All very pretty, rich and lush, and great quality. I also like that dynamic drop in there near the end of the bridge when the strings stand out. It was cool to hear the before and after versions.
  15. Carlo, my opera singer sister is in Rome next week. Are you playing somewhere? I'll send you a PM. (duh)
  16. Yeah Aidan - "Bridge" is a nice tune and well played.
  17. Thanks Carlo, Dave and Linwood. Look forward to hearing you again soon, Carlo. Dave, on "Evanstone", that was one of two trios I had in Baltimore for 10 years. And I see I wasn't clear: I didn't rerecord anything - that's my acoustic piano there. Just an old, derivative tune of mine. I cut it down because it was long - but enough to get the idea. On to your tunes and gear, Dave. Good playing all around. Very pretty; all of it. The 300GX sounds better to me on Autumn In NY than the P120. The P120 sounds like it was recorded better on Falling Grace. It has a presence which lets it cut through, but it still has a thin brightness to it. This may allow it to project and sound better through lesser quality speakers - I'm thinking good speakers might bring out the 'digitalness' of it. I can tell the GX would sound far better recorded direct with more EQ. The new GX has a richness and density in the overtones beyond the SX. That's good or bad depending... If it's not EQ'ed properly, those frequencies can muddy it and make it sound mushy and thin. EQ'ed with good speakers, it's a big plus. So I'm impressed with it overall, because I hear the raw material in the sample. So that's my opinion. And yeah, I'd love to hear Jazz+ in here. It would enrich the thread that much more.
  18. Here's one old, now obsolete original trying to channel the spirit of the early Bill Evans' style. Click "download original" for good quality. http://www.divshare.com/download/4734132-c7c I think I posted this melody by itself before on KC, but I included some of the bass/piano solos here.
  19. Yep, anarchy sounds good to me.
  20. Really nice, Dave. I can hear a little Eronel undertone to it, and you played a good solo there. I see this thread may be headed for more straight jazz stuff. I have some I might add. And you do realize, Dave, you just broke the rule of "no originals" in reharm. Fine with me - it was about time!
  21. Hey Carlo, we're here when you have time. Thanks for stopping in and good luck with all you're doing. Griff, I may do a LMF version myself, but Dave gets first shot - it's his great idea. So to set the mood for a stride "Light My Fire" - I did a Monk stride thing. A minor offering - just being Dave's warm up pianist here. http://www.divshare.com/download/4727940-172
  22. Darn, it would be fun to hear Chick noodling in the reharm room. Yeah Dave, nice playing, man. "Tones" - what a beautiful song. The chords don't need a lot of reharm, but the tune is so irresistible, I might try a take on it sometime too. In that chart at the 14th bar from the end (Bb maj.7 descending to Abm, etc.) is actually just 2 bars of Bb maj7. In the first half of the tune it uses those chords, and the second time it rests on Bb maj7 for 2 bars, which actually makes it easier to play. I remember the Real Book had those extra chords. So you played a harder version and still did it good. The CP300 is a clear sound on the recording, and would sound stronger direct into the computer. It has some convincing pianistic elements in the recording - the high A an octave and a half above middle C sounded just like a piano to me, and most all the higher notes too. I wasn't fooled into believing it was a piano, but it has a pleasing sound due to its uniform resonance. A huge improvement over the P120, and a direct recording of the CP would be even more convincing. 7notemode has those excellent recordings of the CP on his YouTube offerings. String resonance is also on the GX you're ordering, but it's called damper resonance - fully adjustable string resonance you'll get when you apply the pedal. So I 'think' maybe Yamaha was the first to employ it. Nice job again Dave on one of my favorite tunes, and nice to hear you on a new axe too.
  23. Thanks to all. This just proves to me you all were "well raised", to be able to find something nice to say about a botched, piecemeal post like that. Parts of it I liked too, so I didn't want to break it up like that. But I hate hearing discrepancies between instruments, and there were times when it happened. And maybe impressionistic and romantic. HEY! Whadya' mean... SENSITIVE!!??
