  1. Glad you found the source of the problem, Mark! Aaah, the joys of analog synths. On a semi-related note, I noticed the Macbeth website altogether seems to be gone as well, at the moment https://www.macbethstudiosystems.com
  2. Thanks! I literally got the Prophet-5 rev.2 a few months ago and Mark(yboard) fixed it!!! I think I can kiss goodbye to the value of that synth, now - Well, there's the famous phrase from Roland about not chasing the ghosts anymore... but if Korg, and now Sequential start producing stuff like this... I wonder if the other manufacturers start joining that wagon too. The bottom line is that a lot of people like the sound of real analog .... it's been like that forever...
  3. I think it's real acoustic piano, but they also layered and mixed in synthesizer parts on top of it
  4. I - like most people - was surprised about this. I remember a few years ago at trade show I briefly talked to Dave Smith and told him I was looking for a "Rev.2" - I meant , a Prophet-5 rev.2 from the late '70s, but of course he thought I was referring to his (then) new REV2. He immediately told me that it would be a pain to get a '70s rev2, troubleshoot it, get it fixed etc. - in other words, I didn't get the impression that he would be ever interested in re-releasing the old version. I'm glad that my impression was wrong, or that he changed his mind. This looks and sounds great! I would love to try thi soon... I was discussing it with Mark and Dave and we all thought that Korg - and now Sequential - are releasing the real deals - should we start imagining a new CS-80 "real deal" release? A new Jupiter-8 "real deal" release? I guess time will tell...
  5. Mine too. I gotta work on one of my neighbors to acquire a real one. Oh Paoloooo.... Mark, we do have another neighbor who already has one! Tom That said, this plugin sounds fantastic... I've played the real one at Tom's studio and perhaps it will not be 100% of course due to the tubes, but I love what I'm hearing on this demo. Plugins really have gone a long way since the late '90s when one could immediately tell a soft synth from a real one. Today I don't think many people would be able to tell the difference
  6. The Prophet-5 patch #32 "Sync II" from the original first forty patches bank - the quintessential osc sync patch - the Cars' "Let's Go" patch at 0:11 in the video [video:youtube]https://youtu.be/-gr4QhKt8XY?t=10
  7. That's ok - I have the plugin. Sounds the same
  8. Beautiful! (and monster player) For curiosity, does any electronic musical instrument manufacturer make digital harpsichords these days? I remember Roland making them in the '80s/'90s but it doesn't look like they make any anymore?... The real ones are beaucoup d'argent
  9. Hi, Eric! Miss you as well! Once this darn virus is over we need to schedule another synth meet for sure!
  10. No problem whatsoever, Mark!!! I'll stop by and lend you my blue reading glasses for the repair [video:youtube]
  11. The thought of Mark possibly having the ability to do a (((STEREO))) recording of two Prophet-5 Rev2 a the same time is blowing my mind and something that I think nobody has ever done
  12. In case anyone doesn't know already... there's a gentleman in the UK who does the scanning with British magazines called mu:zines and it's such an excellent resource... http://www.muzines.co.uk hopefully someone in the US can/will do the same for Keyboard and other US magazines ? It's definitely a lot of work to scan everything - that is - after acquiring the necessary IP permissions, I would think.... with all the issues of Keyboards over the course of forty years, a huge task for someone with the time and resources available. Also, in case anyone doesn't know already, for older magazines such as RE/P, dB Magazine, Studio Sound etc., there's this also excellent resource from American Radio History (click "Technical/Engineering", then "Audio & Sound"): https://www.americanradiohistory.com
  13. Mark, you are the best, thanks sooo much!!! Truly Mark has been keeping me up to date with the project with many photos, all very interesting. While I have the hobby of electronics and can do the basic stuff like cleaning pots, building pedals, fixing minor stuff etc. there is NO way I could be able to trace IC-rooted problems like a real EE like Mark can. Thank you!!! One thing I'm curious though... Mark showed only one Blobert but there were several... how is it possible that whoever worked on the board before was able to blobertize several ICs while attempting to touch up possible cold joints?? No magnifying glasses perhaps? Applied the solder with a watering can? I don't know... Hey, I was checking eBay and it looks like this Texas electronics vendor offers a tube of NOS 74C906 ? (on the drop-down menu is the one before the last) https://www.ebay.com/itm/74C00-Series-Integrated-Circuits-PLEASE-READ-DESCRIPTION-NOS-New-Old-Stock-I1/153704281456?hash=item23c97d3570:m:mB5UdrDvwt8u3EuPJV_Hg5g I'm one of the crazy ones who think the SSM Prophets sound a bit "better' than the CEMs... there are many who say the difference is not that much / audible or just a minor "sonic flavor", but to me... there is! At any rate, any vintage Prophet is a good Prophet! [and the new ones sound fab too, by the way). Mark, thanks again for all this work! I already made arrangements to sell my first-born son to pay for the repair costs, so no problem there.
