Myles,
On my Hot Rod Deluxe, I'm getting this horrible "warbling" sound when switching to my gain channels. The speed and intensity change as I adjust the "gain" knob.
Is this a bad tube problem or is something else amiss here?
My clean channel sounds fine... for now.
Thanks!
Take the amp to a tech. There are a lot of solid state components in these amps ... even the reverb is NOT tube driven. It can be many things.
Thanks! I'll do that.

Swap the first two preamp tubes with each other and see if things change and let me know.Originally posted by Hard Tail:Myles,
Hopefully, I can explain this well enough.
I have a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe that I've had for a few months now (and am very happy with it).
Lately though, I've been getting some static noise from it every once in awhile. I thought maybe it was just an old cable but I replaced that and I still get it sometimes. I thought maybe it was the guitar I was playing but I'm getting it from both guitars that I own.
I wish I could be more explicit than this but I can't. Since I have plans to play a live venue or two within 4 months, I obviously don't want this noise.
I'll probably just take it to an authorized Fender repair place in the future but maybe you can help.
I didn't need to swap them. One of the preamp tubes wasn't fully seated. It seems to be ok now.
Thanks.

Myles,
During the weekend, I tend to practice in hour spurts. I turn the amp on (Fender Hot Rod Deluxe), let it warm up for 10 minutes then practice for an hour.
Then, real life takes me away for awhile. Once that's done, I do it all over again... turning on the amp, letting it warm up... etc.
I can do this anywhere between 4 and 5 times on a given weekend day.
Am I hurting the amp by turning it off/on in this manner? Should I just leave it running longer (in standby mode) for the time I'm away (if it's not too long like leaving the house etc)?

Thanks for the great stuff you provided. It'll take me awhile to figure this all out but it is helping me out.
If anything, I think I fully understand the major difference between an amp that's 50W and one that's 100W.

Nevermind. I found it. Sorry.

Could you provide a link on this please? I've been looking through the sites you have in your signature but don't see anything like this. Thanks.

Thanks. It sounds to me like you're saying that I should really consider the Lone Star Special.Originally posted by myles111:
Any GC can order anything they want.Originally posted by HardTail:Myles,
From the conversation I had on the phone with the local GC guy, he only has the 6L6's right now.
I would like to try out both.
Maybe look on the GT website for other dealers in your area under the dealers tab and find somebody that does have stock.

Thanks. I'm going to order it now. I'm such a "rock" about amplifiers.Originally posted by myles111:Yes ....
This is a nice book.
I'll be trying out some combo amps this week... the Mesa Boogie Lonestar and the Fender Twin Reverb. I'll probably have questions.
Thanks again.

Myles,
Have you heard of this book: Guitar Amp Handbook ?
I'm interested in ordering it if it's any good.
Thanks.
