  1. 1. Photographic enlarger - I added a switch to control the exposure time but the screws attaching the wires together were also on the outside of the switch that I picked up and pressed with my finger - my thumb touching the screws! 2. Electric fence - out walking on a drizzly day in the country. didn't realise that the wire fences were electrified! Could have been worse - I know people who have urinated, whilst walking in the country, directly onto the wire of an electric fence, not something you do twice!! 3. I was using a keyboard (Roland RD 250s) with a sound module (Roland U110?) and a Jazz chorus amp (also Roland as it happens). When I used the module there was a lot of mains hum. On a gig a "sound engineer" suggested that to get rid of the hum that I disconnected the earth in one of the mains plugs - this worked fine and I was hum free for many gigs. Then one time I had to move location and instead of switching off the mains I pulled out one of the audio cables; the "engineer" had forgotten to mention that the whole setup was being earthed through the audio cables! - got a shock but luckily not of the electric variety and still live to tell the tale.
  2. Fantastic!! But makes me laugh when the video pans back and the people are milling about and chatting whilst Monty Alexander is playing!! Don't they know what they are missing!!
  3. Hi Aidan - the Wight one! Not heard of Snark Island Jahfume except in Lewis Carroll's writing - did you mean Sark; one of the Channel Islands? Dave
  4. Thanks guys for the reviews and video - makes it all more frustrating as UK delivery for the px s3000 has now been pushed back to 8 June. I've got one on order and was hoping to have it for the bank holiday weekend at the end of May when I've got several gigs lined up. Will have to wait now. Interesting comments by Jeremy See on his review video; I've currently got a Yamaha P120 and have very rarely gone into the function menus to change anything as I would need the manual on a gig! At least Casio allow you to assign useful functions to the knobs that allows immediate access to tweak - just have to save your own registrations in advance of gigs. Roll on early June - unless Mike Martin can speed delivery up for me!!!! Dave
  5. Looking through stands on the Thomann site recently and found a foldable version of the 18810 - the Omega Pro 18820. Always quite liked the idea of the 18810 but not the way it only folded into a long narrow shape - this one isn't exactly elegant but at least it folds up!! Omega Pro Available in Black, White or Red. Just popped back to the site to have a look before posting and they have just added a version of this stand: 18800 Omega-E Electronically adjusting stand - preset heights using an app. Must have deep pockets!! Dave
  6. The manual seems to suggest that you can play midi files from a usb stick - 1-10 user songs; 11-15 midi recorder songs & 16-999 usb memory songs. Also, it seems that audio wav files can be imported into the piano and played back, 1-99 wav files. Need to change the name of the file in a computer to TAKEXX.WAV where XX=01-99 then load the files in via usb stick. The instructions refer to wav files recorded on the piano but I'm assuming a wav file is a wav file. Lots of assuming on my part but worth a try!! Dave
  7. Thanks Mike Martin and Jazz+. I'm liking the idea of a Px S3000 as a replacement for my aging Yamaha P120. Looks like they're due to arrive in the UK in the first week of May so I'll have to wait a bit before purchase. A shop in the north is offering them at £636 which is 20% off the price that other retailers are offering - £795. I think that this may be a bit too good to be true!! Might pre-order from one of the shops nearer me. I like the backpack option for the gig bag but being just over 6ft wonder if there would be a problem going through doorways or venues with low ceilings!! Quite exciting - must be 15 years or so since I last purchased a keyboard!!! Dave
  8. I've used the SS3 in smaller settings for jazz and larger ones for big band and really pleased with the results - funnily enough nobody asks about the amp, all the interest has been around the great sounding piano!! - 10+years old Yamaha P120!! Out tonight for the first time with a (much) louder funk/soul band so looking forward to hearing the SS in this context - out doors venue on a bandstand (The Pantiles, Tunbridge Wells) with foh pa playing to a few thousand people. Dave
  9. Have had the SS3 for a few weeks now but most of the gigs since owning it have been on acoustic piano; usually this is nice but keep wanting to try out the new amp!! I have now played a few gigs with the SpaceStation and am really pleased with it. A few Big Band gigs and a couple of smaller combos. Difficult to explain but the piano seems much clearer and more present with greater dynamics but without being too loud to my ears. The big band is loud but I have no trouble being heard or hearing myself. Glad I took the plunge and shipped it over to the UK. Thank you Aspen for the product and great service! I did have a bit of a shock yesterday - playing in a jazz sextet for VE Day celebrations. We played after a local dance class - sort of lessons + demonstrations with backing cd's and the lady teacher giving instructions using a mike and her own pa (the dancers also danced to the band). We went on for our final set then halfway through the first number my sound cut out - as the front line, acoustic bass and drums were still playing I assumed that the amp had blown!! However, soon realised that the dance teacher was packing up and had unplugged the band's power extension in error. What a relief - I don't think I could manage without the SS3 now!! Dave
  10. Space Station has landed! Took the plunge and ordered one direct from Aspen to the UK. Have a gig tomorrow, Sunday lunchtime, with a big band and was hoping to try out the Space Station there. Received a letter this morning (Saturday) from Parcelforce (Royal Mail parcel delivery wing) requesting vat payment - earliest delivery is Monday; dam! Have requested Wednesday delivery so I'll be in to receive it. Will have to wait for next gig to try out. Sure it will make my old P120 sound better than the Roland KC500 that I've been using for the last 10 years!! Dave
