Lol, hell of a deal...what is the effing point.  Reissue an old classic and make it sheer unobtainium but for only the wealthy...

13 K$ for that Korg monster is peanuts compared to the recently reissued Moog 55 at 35 K$ and "Emerson" Moog Modular System at 150 K$.

  2. Had a special permission in the 1990s to play a Pleyel recently restored by an expert tech and owned by a certain famous pianist that shall remain anonymous. I thought it had an OK 18xx era sound but the action was near unplayable with the keys in the 70 g range. So my experience of a Pleyel piano is the very opposite of what is often mentioned. No, they don't have a light action at all. Oh and if this Korg piano was "created for lovers of Chopin", in that era pianos didn't have a middle sostenuto pedal.

Anything that should stop this thought process before it progresses…?

I'm very late to the party, but I think it is a little cutie.

I enjoy modifying keyboards too and to answer your original question, I always start by asking myself if it's OK I might never sell the unit in the future, then if fine before doing anything I make sure what I want to do is actually possible and then define the main steps and possible material I will need, etc. Of course, mods don't come with instruction manuals so there are always additional steps or problems that come along, but I think it is always interesting and fun challenges. Congrats ! :guinness:

    P. S. : Hope this will be added to the new Repairs and Mods section, it's always interesting to see what others work on.

  4. Yep, the initial video above is about using JI / UT variations. This particular performance might be a bit too much an example, but it gives a good idea how UTs can offer a different feel compared to the boring ET. Decades ago, on Kurzweil instruments like the K1000 and K1200 series one could not only create custom temperaments but also change the reference key while playing using a fun integrated MIDI option. I used that extensively back in the day for strong temperaments such as JI. Since then, I almost never use ET and prefer my own UT both on electronic instruments and on the grand piano.

  5. Here, we are just happy that weather will stay mild for sure several more days, so we can enjoy holidays. Last year, we had one of the worse winter storms ever (130 km/h winds) with no power for a week, had to pay for hotel, etc. So this year should be a nice Christmas. Hopefully I'll find time to tune the grand piano.

Wishes of peace and health to all.
