This recording session was today, so I thought I’d provide an update. Ahead of the session I was told that this Hammond was owned by Jon Lord. I didn’t mention it in my original post, as I thought it sounded so unlikely, I didn’t believe it was true.
The producer for the session was Pete Brown, whose sister is the singer Sam Brown. She has worked with Jon Lord on his solo stuff. And he sold her the Hammond, and it eventually ended up in her brother’s studio. Jon Lord is one of my keyboard heroes, so today has been pretty special for me.

I'm going to be doing some recording in a few weeks time at a studio that has a real Hammond and Leslie. That's quite exciting for me as never played the real thing before. I'm looking for a bit of help to identify what model it is. The studio website says that it's a C3, but looking at the attached picture, I don't think that's right. Can anybody identify it? Maybe an A100? I'll have fun playing it whatever the model, but I'm the sort of geek who likes to know the details!

On Pink Floyd"s The Happiest Days Of Our Lives, the lyric at the end is 'their fat psychopathic wives would thrash them within inches of their lives', but I heard 'with the emptiness of their lives'. I always liked that more than the correct lyric.

Moog have developed an analog emulation of the Nord Lead. They've called it the 'Minimoog'. Doesn't sound as good as the real thing.

Thanks for the responses! The fact that you can ask a question and get so many expert replies is what makes this forum so great.
I should probably add that I dont sing lead vocals and all band members sing backing. The vocal effects unit is to thicken the sound on songs where the original has massive layers of backing vocals. Also, I need to cover the vocoder part on Radio Ga Ga (
at 1:00).The TC Voicelive 2 and 3 both look good. How do those two compare in terms of vocoder capability?

I've just joined a Queen tribute band, and the previous keyboard player used a vocal harmoniser with MIDI input to augment the vocals, and they want me to do the same. I've never done anything like that before, so I was wondering if anybody on here had any recommendations or tips?
The only product that I could find that looks suitable is the Roland VT-4 (https://www.musictech.net/reviews/roland-vt-4-voice-transformer/). Any feedback on that or suggestions for alternatives?

There's a mono button on the NS2 EX. Look closely in the Program section, near the bottom. It's surprisingly effective.I've seen mention a few time of a Mono button on Nord keyboards, but that's not on the Nord Stage 2 EX - right?
Ah yes, I see it now! I assumed it was specifically for piano, so was looking for it in the piano section.

Thanks for all the responses. I generally see positive comments about Nord pianos, see I was expecting to see responses along the line of 'the Nord pianos sound amazing, how can you not like them?'. So interesting to see that a number of people have the same experience is me: good for listening, more challenging for playing.
I'll play around with the EQ some more. I'm also tempted to go back to the Bright Piano. Although I don't like it's sound so much solo, I have previously found that it works best in a rock band setting.
I've seen mention a few time of a Mono button on Nord keyboards, but that's not on the Nord Stage 2 EX - right?
To respond to a few other questions/comments: My other keyboard is a Yamaha CP4, on which I use the CFX Grand. When playing with a band, I'm hearing the Nord through a Laney monitor, and I've always been happy with the sound of that monitor.

I don't normally use my Nord Stage for acoustic piano, but I do sometimes when I want to take just one keyboard. The issue is that the pianos don't really work for me - even though when I hear other people use pianos on Nord, I think they sound great.
One issue is that my Nord isn't hammer action, but independent of that I'm not keen on the sound. I recently loaded the Royal Grand into it, and I like that more than any of the default included pianos, but still I'm not that keen on the sound, particularly when playing in a band. I've tried EQing, but haven't got good results from that.
So I would appreciate some input. Anything I can do to tweak the sounds? Or is it just a case of taking more time to get used to the sounds?

Initially I assumed that there would be a Windows editor in addition to the iPad editor. However, I haven't found any information suggesting there is a Windows editor - am I right in thinking there isn't one?

I once did a workshop where one of the exercises was to solo over a 12 bar blues using just three notes. In C, that would be G, Bb and C - just those three in one octave. The point of the exercise was that you can’t rely on flashy runs - instead you have to use feel and dynamics.
