  1. i know it says silver series on the box but until u told me above i didn't know what that meant. when i went and bought groove tubes i expected them to be the same quality as other groove tubes. that's the reason for buying gt to start with. i think instead of just saying "silver series" on the box it should be clear exactlly what that means so the consumer doesn't buy something they don't want unknowinglly. the average peson who goes and buys some tubes has no idea what silver series means but they know Groove Tubes are suppose to be quality tubes. it's no big deal to me since i know now. i'm still satisfied with my purchase. i just think where should be better labeling. it could even be a reason for a GT poster to be in the stores to explain the difference. just an idea.
  2. If they are in gray and white boxes they would be the latest C9's but are "silver series" and not premium gold series. I only use silver series in non tone and gain stages, such as for reverb drivers and effects loops. They are not as quiet as the gold series.so what sort of boxes will the gold series be in, the regular gt boxes i'm use to seeing? it sucks that the people at guitar center don't know about these things, because nobody told me that's what i was buying. i'll still have some use for em tho.
  3. hey myles i just purchased some gt 12ax7c tubes i'm curious to know how to determine if they are the latest incarnation of the chinese preamp tubes. if it helps at all, they came in individual grey and white boxes and have the gt logo on them in grey instead of the red/orange that was on all the other gt tubes i have ever seen. i have one in v1 of my traynor ycv40 along with a ruby ei 12ax7 in v2 and i really like the sound. i also have gt 6l6s in the output section. i just got this amp a couple of days ago so i'm experimenting to with different tubes in it to see how they sound and respond in it. i tried some jj's that i already had around in the traynor but for whatever reason they sounded really dark. i pulled the jj's from another amp where they sounded great but they just didn't match up well with the traynor. if you have any insight on what might be good to try in the traynor i'm open to suggestions.
  4. yeah i've been wanting to try some of those. i'll have to see if i can find a local GT dealer that has them the guitar center near me never has anything other than sovtek and jj in 12ax7's. i wanna try some of the 12ax7c's as well. btw while on the topic of tubes. does GT carry the EH el84? i have a pair of them in my amp and i really dig them. i'd like to go with the gt tested ones if they are availible.
  5. This is just a industrial 12AX7 designation. It has no special merit from a high $$$ point and may just be work keeping if you like it sonically.when i really gave it a listen it had WAY too much treble for my likes even with the treble turned down to about 2. i put it in my v1 slot and an e1 12ax7 in v2. it may have just been a case of 2 bright tubes back to back in the signal, but i went back to my jj 12ax7's. i'll keep them for spare phase inverters i guess. thanx again for the info
  6. well that was a couple of years ago. i had to sell it to pay the rent. this was after my job moved to mexico and i got denied by nafta. shit happens. i'll have another one.
  7. there is some info at this link on myles website about how the gt scale relates to the mesa boogie tube color code. pretty much the tubes the boogie sell are in the 4-6 range of gt tubes. http://www.guitaramplifierblueprinting.com/pastinfo.html Thanks, but I think I did recall seeing that long ago and that's where I got that figure of "6". Probably should be a "5". I also brushed up on the balanced phase inverter tube aspects. Sometimes some of the NOS websites will offer a balanced PI for a few bucks more. no prob. i remember asking him about it when i had a boogie.

  9. This is just a industrial 12AX7 designation. It has no special merit from a high $$$ point and may just be work keeping if you like it sonically.thanx. i just traded someone a pair of 6l6's for a couple of preamp tubes because i don't own a 6l6 amp and i had no use for the tubes. the tubes i traded were mesa str 420's that i only had for spares. they are nothing to write home about so i can't complain about what i got for em. i just wanted to get something for them instead of throwing them away. thanx for the info
  10. hey myles i got a preamp tube as a part of a trade and i'd like to get some info on it the wrting on the tube says: NATIONAL 6681 MADE IN USA i put it in my amp and it works and sounds great i'm just curious to know more about it. i'd appeciate any info you have on the topic.
  11. exactopposite....... The EH's are available out there ... as far as differences in tone and reliability, only time will tell. what is the gt designator for them? i only see the el84 r, s, and y (sovtek, jj, and ei)on the gt website. i don't see any info there about the new tube. Who else has them availible if gt doesn't?
  12. i recall seeing some info on a new el84 tube from eh in a previous tube primer. are those tubes availible yet and if not when will they be availible? i'm curious to know how they compare to jj el84's in terms of sound and reliability. right now i use jj el84's (#4)and 12ax7's in my crate v 1512. i really like the wasy it sounds with this configuration, but i'd give the eh a shot if they are decent tubes. i'm not so sure about trying the ei's since they are said to have a brighter sound and i like a somewhat dark tone. so what's the scoop on the eh tubes?
  13. hey myles is the mesa maverick cathode biased. i'm looking at buying one (4x10) and i' curious to know for sure. if so, and i think it is, what range of tubes on the gt scale can the cathode bias properlly adjust itself for?
