  1. Damn - I was posting on the Book of Face about riffing on that bassline at the last gig. Note to self: always preview. https://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/daddario-planet-waves-screaching-halt-guitar-soundhole-plug?rNtt=daddario%20soundhole%20cover&index=1 Although, if you play the Soul Train version of 'I Want You Back' and isolate the 7th track and play it backwards at half-speed, you can clearly hear Don Cornelius say something completely unintelligible. Coincidence? I think NOT!
  2. Yeah, like Lug said. Also, if you're planning on playing the MK thru an amp or PA, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND getting a soundhole cover to minimize the incredible amount of feedback this AEB can produce. It's a common problem with pretty much all AEBs - the nature of the beast. I use the D'Addario (see link below) and it really helped when going thru a standard PA. The feedback issue was negated when using a Bose L1 line-array as the instrument/vocal PA for an acoustic trio I was in so I didn't need it in that scenario, but when playing in any other configuration, the guitar body falls victim to big resonance. That doesn't play well with standard speakers or monitors. Seriously, get one before the gig just in case. If you find you don't need it, you can always take it back. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
  3. Always listen to Lug.* (*when he speaks. At all other times, run far away. Save yourself.)
  4. Well, that was a lot of fun! Only thing you might consider is editing down Track 4 at the end - your guitarist drifts off-key for the last few notes but then comes back during the fade. You may want to fade the tune out a bar or two earlier to avoid those unfortunate notes. Aside from that, I liked it! Good tone, clean recordings, great fretless sweep in Stray Cat Strut ( ). I think that'd be a great booking tool. Throw in a Frampton Audience Cheer at the end of SCS and you'll be at Wembley by July.
  5. They're not clams - they're 'improvisational explorations'. That's what I've told myself for the past 50 years or so...
  6. Excellent! You can't go wrong with The Blasters. If/when you get a mix-down, share it with The Gang - we'd love to hear it.
  7. Actually, both of those work as well...
  8. Wow, that song really speaks to me. It tells me to go on a tri-state killing spree, starting Friday, Friday, Friday, Friday...
  9. Working my fingers to the bone - got a call to sub on acoustic guitar for a traditional Irish trio on St. Patricks Day - two 2-hour sets (afternoon, evening) at a pub that's as Irish as Irish can be. Learning about 40 songs, jigs and reels before next Wednesday. My, but guitar strings are skinny! I threw a set of Mediums on my Tak to build up some callouses - fingertips toughening up as we speak. I'll replace with some ultra-lights before the shows, though. Pray for me or point and laugh, whichever floats yer goat.
  10. Well, that certainly would qualify them as ground bees... (runs away)
  11. I've played a couple of Ashdown rigs and, I gotta say, I like them. Tim's Minimalist Review
  12. Can we beat him? Pleeeeease? Welcome to the States, yo. Don't get killed.
  13. wait, shouldn't that be... 000000000000000_000000000000000 00000000000000___00000000000000 0000000000000_____0000000000000 000000000000_______000000000000 00000000000_________00000000000 0____________________________00 000_____________ _________ 0000 00000 ___________________ 00000 0000000_________________0000000 000000_________0_________000000 00000_______0000000_______00000 0000_____0000000000000_____0000 000___0000000000000000000___000 00_0000000000000000000000000_00 9999999999999999999999999999999 9999___99999999999999999___9999 999_____999999999999999_____999 999_____999999999999999_____999 999_____999999999999999_____999 999_____999999999999999_____999 999_____999999999999999_____999 999_____999999999999999_____999 999_____99____999____99_____999 999_____9______9______9_____999 999_____9______9______9_____999 999_____9______9______9_____999 999_____9______9______9_____999 999_____9____999999999999999999 999_____9___99_____________9999 999_____9__99_______________999 999______999_________________99 999________99_________________9 999__________99_______________9 999____________99_____________9 999_____________99___ Hmmmm?
  14. I used to run an Open Mic, and backed up a bunch of the "singers". Considered joining a monastery that required taking a vow of silence, considered poking icepicks thru my eardrums. All these thoughts came back this summer. Mondoray, we thought about buying a boombox and a bunch of John Tesh disks to overdrive the karaoke, but realized that'd be too cruel. Then we considered a boombox with a 'Sounds of the Ocean' Environments CD but, knowing us, we would accidentally pick up "Automobile Crash Hi-Jinx" or "Great Railroad Disasters". We just couldn't take the chance. Instead, we just waited until after 11, then listened to the sounds of the surf. Before 11, we just did a "MST3K" on the singers.
  15. Why, oh why... My Lovely Wife and I went to Myrtle Beach, SC this past August for two weeks, paid premium rates for a nice condo unit in a beautiful building right on the water, top-floor accomodations. We love sitting on the balcony in the evenings listening to the sounds of the surf and totally relaxing. We were doing so when it began... Karaoke. By the pool. Directly underneath the balconies. With an open poolside bar. And a PA turned up to 11. My God. The horror. This went on every evening for the next four days, from 7 till 11 pm and happened every week. We asked the hotel management to scale the volume back a little. No go. We asked the DJ to tone it down a little. No go. Four nights out of seven, there were inebriated wanna-be's screeching their way thru songs that occasionally require some sort of vocal control. Ain't gonna happen. And they thought it was just soooo cute when they got their little kids (a group no older than 8 or 9) to sing the same song a couple of times every night. Something with a chorus of 'Sooo-i-cide...Soooo-i-cide'. A real Sesame Street Moment. Mr. Rogers would run screaming. Captain Kangaroo would stuff his ears with Mr. Greenjean's socks, then bash his head against Grandfather Clock. Next year, I think we'll go to our basement and put on an 'environments' record instead. Aside from that sonic nightmare, it was sure sweet to spend some chill-time with my honey-bun.
  16. Ahh, Rosiland Russell!! The one and only Hildy Johnson. My favorite part in that film is the poignant scene with the 'girlfriend' of Earl Williams being badgered by the newspapermen, then Hildy ushering her out of the Press Room, returning to stare down the calloused reporters and only saying "Gentlemen of the Press" with such disgust that they shamefacedly all turn away and stare at the floor. Excellent. OF course, the cast is one of the best out there, with Cary Grant and Ralph Bellamy, and Gene Lockhart as the Sheriff (father of June Lockhart of "Lost in Space" fame...) I love old movies!
  17. Groucho: "Too soon, too soon. He died too soon." Chico: "...about an hour too soon!" I love Room Service, one of my favorite Marx Brothers movies, with a very young Lucille Ball and Ann Miller. Followed closely by The Cocoanuts and Duck Soup. I watched 'A Day at the Races' a few weeks ago and the first half is hilarious, the last half is not their best work. I love "A Night at the Opera", but I've seen it so many times... Speaking of Lucille Ball and Ann Miller, have you seen "Stage Door"? It's such a stellar cast, with Katherine Hepburn, Ginger Rogers, Ann Miller (who's only 14 when this movie was made!!!), Lucille Ball, Eve Arden, Gail Patrick, Franklin Pangborn, Adolph Menjou...if you like old movies with fast-talking Marx Brothers-like bantering, try this one. It's killer.
  18. ok, I can't go any further without saying that the NHL playoffs are going very nicely for the New Jersey Devils. Yay. Take that, Rangers and Flyers fans! [evil laugh] Bwa ha ha haaaaa! [/evil laugh]
  19. [font:Comic Sans MS]HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MAISIE!!![/font]
  20. Brocko, listen to kenfxj in this respect. I live in the middle of Soprano Country, and it would be a definite no-no. JonathanD, really sorry about the pooch. How can they manage to capture our hearts as strong as they do? Good luck. On a brighter note, a great crowd at the gig last night. Tried out a Boss CE-20 Chorus Pedal on the bass - took it back to Sam Ash this morning. Nice looking, lots of variables, probably great for guitar (oh, that word!), but not happening for the bass. Oh well, back to my DanElectro chorus. Pulled the trigger on the Gretsch Americana guitar when I took the Boss pedal back. All in all, I saved a few bucks, and that's always cool. My feet hurt from dancing around on stage all night. I'm getting too old for this stuff. ...or not. Enjoy your weekend, folks! Stay cool.
  21. Gigging tonight at Tierney's Tavern - we've been playing there every single month for 21 years. Long as I remember to put my Store Teeth in, yep yep yep... I may sneak out at lunchtime and buy one of these ! I tried one out last week and it's a pretty nice little acoustic. Robin tells me I'm not allowed to bring any more instruments into the house (she has a point...I'm bad like that - we counted up the instruments a week or so ago, and it was embarassing ) but maybe I'll just keep it here at work for picking and grinning during quiet times. Hmmmm... ...now what to do about the other three models coming out later this year? Suggestions?
