I did a search on the forum for this but brought up nothing. So what is the difference between a rosewood fingerboard vs ebony fingerboard?

Thanks in advance \

Ebony stands up better to abuse because it's harder wood, and (I think, anyway) sounds brighter.

Sounds fatter and smoother to me, plus it feels slicker. My Faded Flying V has an ebony fretboard, and I love it.

Yeah, Ebony is harder, slicker, and brighter sounding.

LIke most of you I've had guitars with ebony fbs and guitars with rosewood fbs, but I have never taken the same exact guitar with the same exact build and same exact electronics and swapped out the fretboard to do a genuine comparrison.
I have never taken the same model guitar, the same in all respects except one ebony the other rosewood, and a/b'd them.
So, other than liking them both, I can't honestly say what fretboard gives me a brighter sound considering the guitars as a whole were different.
I can honestly say that my Les Paul with an ebony fretboard in a 24.75 scale was not as bright sounding as my Carvin with ebony on a longer scale. There's just too many variables for me, ie wood, pups, pots, strings, neck radius, scale length, etc.
Good thing others have a better opinion, because my answer to the topic question would be this: I read that ebony is a harder wood those that know wood seem to imply that ebony is a brighter sounding fretboard.
I'll have to take their word for it. I find both to be very acceptable to me.

Yeah agreed Bbach1, I've got both and just too many variables!

I would try to explain well...believe me! fingerboard wood doesn´t affects in sound like other wood parts in a guitar,Rosewood is good enough for a custom guit. but really ebony is harder and difficult to scratch.IMO NOBODY can tell it´s brighter!!! it´s so stupid as people who say that playing same stock guitars in a shop one sounds brighter than other (simply produced by the tone pot condenser "tolerances"), that´s not a problem between guitar simply could be rectified with a little touch in the amp eq´.

I think it really depends on the context, about the looks. I do wish they still made Jems with ebony fretboards. My fretless bass has an ebony fingerboard, which is really helpful especially since I use roundwounds. As for guitars, I'm still experimenting and forming opinions, but I do think ebony is very cool.

I find rosewood slightly spongier and more porous than ebony, and I do find ebony feels slicker and faster in my hand than rosewood. Aesthetically, I much prefer ebony and maple to rosewood. This argument will go on forever, with great players on both sides of the fence, with some straddling it with no apparent favorite. Rosewood is why I'm not a Les Paul or PRS or Jazzmaster fan. If I'm to pay big bucks for an axe, it'll damn well have the board I want, or I'll choose something different.

I prefer ebony. No sound issues--like some mentioned, too many variables. Just feels and looks better to me.
