  1. The two most often recommended YouTube Logic Pro tutorial channels: Music Tech Help Guy Why Logic Pro Rules Also, Logic Pro Help - David Nahmani's forum; he has written several books on Logic Pro (the latest of which is referenced by DocBop above).
  2. I bought his Song of the Sun album back in the 90's and really enjoyed it - great playing, really nice songs and arrangements - he just seemed to come at things from a different angle. RIP...
  3. I use Scotch Super Hold tape - it's much better than regular scotch tape. I tape just the backside, about a 4" strip on both the top and the bottom. I have never had a chart need retaping (yet). I also use 28 lb. paper - much better than the standard 20 lb paper most people use. Having said all that, I plan to move to UnRealbook at some point. As jerrythek says, you can use hotspots, or just unroll your digital chart (instead of jumping back to the D.S., just add it as the next page, same for coda).
  4. FWIW I've been using the M-Audio EX-P Universal Expression Pedal - lightweight plastic, but served me fine for the last couple of years.
  5. Check out Larry William's Minimoog solo (and outro solo) on the tune "Streetwave," on the Quincy Jones produced album "Blam" by the Brothers Johnson. Also note his comment (willyworld1234) noting how he replaced his idol George Duke at the last moment on synth for this cut... The whole album is both blatantly commercial but cool, with Quincy's touch featuring the Seawind horns and players like Harvey Mason, Richard Tee, etc.
  6. When the DX7 appeared in 1983, it listed for $1995, which is $6,162.69 in today's dollars. It was a game changer, but not sure it was in affordability.
  7. That's what I use for smaller, more acoustic gigs, and they sound much better than OK - flat response, great for acoustic piano, and the weight is an added bonus. Highly recommended!
  8. To me Herbie's solo on Chamelon is "iconic Herbie". The melodic inside/outside lines, funky groove in the lines, even the 2 chord progression (no stale I IV or V I, but a 3rd apart and of course the second one a sus chord) - all done in a thoughtful, relaxed and playful way... I love how the strings come in and provide a nice backdrop just a taste. Of course the rest of the rhythm section kept the groove, Paul Jackson and Harvey Mason - and finally, nice Rhodes sound. Soloing over one or two chords is its own challenge, different from a tune with a lot of changes. Then again it is different when there is no other chordal instrument, like here, where you are free to harmonically go in various directions. If there was for example a guitarist comping behind you, you'd likely be more harmonically constricted, depending on the guitarist. Still whatever the situation is, the challenge is always how to be creative in the moment, given what is happening around you...
  9. Really nice contemplative version there, Dave!
  10. C# dim 7 is a C# dim triad with a B flat. C# dim maj 7 is a C# dim triad with a B sharp (or C natural). To add additional upper partials to a diminished chord, you just use the other scale tones (actually the dim 7th a whole step up, D# dim 7th) for the 9th, 11th, 13th and 7th. So my understanding (and I have seen) this as a C# dim b13 - a C# dim 7th with an A natural (and omitted 5th). The bottom staff shows 1.) a standard 2 handed voicing, 2.) the voicing in question, obtained by dropping the 5th and doubling the root.
  11. Here is sounds like you expected more care and compassion from him, even after you didn't extend those feelings towards him, both hurting him and making him look stupid in the eye of others. I think focusing on his behavior is missing the point. I don't think the take away from this situation is: was this relationship too transactional, or failed because it was not easy or convenient enough. Rather, it is that lack of communication causes problems, and ignoring people shows you don't care and can be hurtful. I realize that you had other issues that prevented you from fulfilling your commitments here, and sympathize with you in that it tough to deal with letting someone down as a result of one's own behavior. However, you clearly demonstrated to him that it was more important to you to not only not do the work but also not explain why. I think the most positive thing you can get for this is to learn that communication is key, and lack of communication always makes things worse.
  12. I too own the American Concert D, and would be happy if they offer an upgrade path with their products. I look at it as both a working musician and former software developer. In both cases you want to be paid for your work, but you don't expect a club, say, to pay you less because they've paid you for previous gigs, if that analogy makes sense. Oh, I see they do offer an upgrade path, at least for Ivory II owners.
  13. Some powered speakers have a low frequency boost or cut function, so check the manual for that speaker. If it does have that capability, I would guess the borrowers enabled the low frequency boost, thereby making your keyboard sound more bass heavy.
  14. Just checking - do you use the Audio MIDI Setup app, and if so, are you using a configuration that has the Babyface, not the Fireface, current?
