  1. I agree that the process is fascinating. I don't have much to say about the music, it isn't my thing but that's irrelevant if others like it. He managed to fool another producer, I'll give him that.
  2. Have you ever used one? I have a good friend who has one. If you want small, light and loud and cheap, it has potential. I don't know if they still make it. I've used 2 different ones owned by friends. It's 100 watts, uses a 12" speaker and weighs 22 pounds. It's not tiny but not huge either. More bass is not a bad thing at all, especially if there isn't a bassist. The EQ is Bass, Lo-Mid, Hi-Mid and Treble, you can boost or cut all of those. You can get a lot of different tones if you tweak it. https://www.fender.com/en-US/play-home/rumble-100/2370400000.html I remember many times jamming with keyboard players who used guitar or bass amps and they can sound fine.
  3. If you can find one to try out, a Fender Rumble 100 might be a good choice.
  4. I was unaware of Keith's passing by suicide, that is tragic. I saw ELP in concert on the Brain Salad Surgery tour and they were fantastic.
  5. Woof is why I use the low mid knobs to turn down 200hz, that's what I call "mud-range". On the Tech 21 Q-Strip, I set the high mid frequency at around 1.7khz and give that a bit of a boost. There's your pitch and attack. I turn the highs up a bit as well, there is your chime. My bass records with a full, deep low end and clarity. I'm using D'Addario Brite Flats on both of my basses and EMG P Bass pickups, the strings are smooth to the touch and have a bit more definition that true flat wounds. The pickups are full range and virtually zero hum. They have big bass and strong clear highs. If you are using flat wound strings (and they do have advantages, no finger noise scraping the winds), try the Brite Flats.
  6. I don't use Tik Tok, I don't post on Instagram (I do surf the new stuff quickly once in a while but... meh). I am currently trimming down my Facebook friends, my new rule is that I have to know you in person to add you as a friend and even that might be questionable. I've considered just deleting it entirely. Music Player Network seems to be "safe" for the most part and so does Model Mayhem. I prefer to interact with actual humans in the real world. I am probably missing something, everybody else is too. We cannot be everywhere, we cannot know about everything and we cannot know everyone. I'm doing ok.
  7. I went to a show long ago and they had a wall of Marshall cabinets. I was hanging out with the soundman (a friend) after the show and I saw a roadie hook his hands into the corners of 2 cabinets, pick them up and walk off the stage with them. They were all empty.
  8. Welcome! We are always glad to have new members here!!!
  9. A 5157 is interchangeable with a 12ax7 but typically has about 70% of the gain. Good way to tame the preamp and allow a higher master volume setting to get the output tube and transformer harmonic distortion that is a bit nicer to hear that just preamp tube distortion.
  10. True, no doubt about it. If the one in the photo was mine, I might hook up a CD player and some speakers (which are not RCA jacks) and call it good. I don't own any records or cassettes anymore.
  11. I haven't done a deep dive but my "Swiss Army knife"distortion pedal is a Tech 21 Double Drive 3x. It's slightly smaller than 2 pedals with side jacks (it has jacks on the top of the box- actually the jacks are on the front!) but it has both Class A (even order harmonics) and Class AB (even and odd order harmonics) knobs so you can blend and adjust however you want. It also has a 3 band EQ - Bass Middle and Treble. LOTS of variations available and three programmable footswitches.
  12. Learn to use "The. Notes That Are Wrong" in the right way and you got it.
  13. I'm not a big fan of RCA plugs either. I left the receiver right where I saw it.
