  1. This is a big selling point on the latest versions of Arturia's virtual analog machines, and it sounds really good... the problem is setting the values too high, which can cause your synth to sound just plain wonky. Interestingly, this idea goes all the way back to the Wave 2.V software, which had an AKKU (battery) button to simulate wobbly voltages that produced some of the PPG's quirks.
  2. Roger Linn has one. He is really enjoying it. On a recent zoom call, he appeared in two windows, one with him sitting and wearing the mask and the other of his face avatar. You can see screenshots of the two side by side if you go to his website and check the Monthly Meeting page, where he has photos. mike
  3. Actually, I jumped the gun badly on that one. There has been no official word from Arturia, yet, and because my involvement was only peripheral and early on, I haven’t been kept in the loop. I’m going to be quietly slinking under a rock for a while.
  4. OK, I guess my sense of humor is way too esoteric. Doesn't anyone remember the prototype Behringer console that, whoopsie, had a Mackie logo on the PCB? And here we have a prototype Behringer synthesizer that, whoopsie, still says Oberheim...? Sheesh, tough crowd. Forget it, I'll get my coat.... mike
  5. My God, am I the only person who caught this? Not a single reply or emoji? Tsk. (Or did I miss one? Seven pages to wade through... er, eight... make that nine.......)
  6. Actually, Dina Pearlman (the daughter of Alan R. Pearlman and the head of the Alan R. Pearlman Foundation) has no problem with the word-like pronunciation. In fact, her autograph is "d'ARP". Take that as coming from as primary a source as you wish. And woohoo, I posted on this thread! Big whoop. mike
  7. But does it have Polyphonic Aftertouch? And actually I could see going on stage with just the bottom three notes and playing full [insert genre you don't have much respect for] arrangements....
  8. As a heavy iOS user, both live and in the studio, I very much favor this. My setup works, but the whole need for a USB hub is kind of a pain.
  9. I love Shimmer. My first Valhalla plug-in and now I have them all. Love it. Turn the detune way down and it becomes a completely different sound. Love it love it love it. I wish Valhalla did iOS AUv3 versions....
  10. Forgive me for being dense, but what does this even mean? Give some examples, please: of music you consider manly and full of grunt and sweat or whatever pulls your daisy, and of what a mature interesting lady is. There's something being lost in translation, at least to me. When I hear "mature interesting ladies" it sounds like an ad for importing brides from Russia.
  11. As I said in the YouTube comments, after 34 years of owning an OG Xpander, I think this is both a great homage and a fascinating evolution. I sold my Xpander for $4000 a few years ago, because it was in mint condition but I knew that I could never afford to fix it if it ever broke, and that had a chilling effect on my willingness to keep using it. This new beastie is expensive, but wow does it look like it would be a blast to own!
  12. I did a lot of my synthesis learning on the Model 100, first a smaller one at Oberlin and later a big setup at the University of Pittsburgh. The latter had the 132 waveform synthesizer module, which broke my brain pretty badly at the time. Its descendents are now everywhere, of course.
  13. A really good sense of technique and musical taste elevate keytar performance out of the realm of silly gimmickry and into real musicianship. I first got into keytars because they were designed to pack a lot of control features into a very small space, in a keyboard that could live around your neck while you moved around your rig. And they are fun to play on stage, so you're not stuck in one place. But I could never play like this, that's for damn sure.
  14. Like it says on the label. Just went live a couple of hours ago. No strings attached (other than creating an account with them, which you should already have because anyone who isn't already using Cherry Audio plug-ins is just a silly beaver), download, install, sign in once, and go. Cherry Audio SEM for FREE You're welcome. mike
