  1. Or why not just get the SP6? I was worried about going back to 88 as I had been gigging with the Hammond SK1-73 which is about 45" long and fits in some tight spots, especially in a 7 piece country band. However, on that one the light action is lacking for playing "real" piano, and the SP6 is only 52" and works great for piano, Hammond or electric piano. If I want any more serious B3, I can use a dual tier rig with the Sk1 on top. I am loving the SP6 the more I play it, and have already fit it on some tight stages!
  2. Love those old Ensoniq boards! I have two Ensoniq SQ-80s that I use from time to time. But I don't see many weighted, hammer-action 76 note boards these days.
  3. The only problem with 76 keys is that there aren't many weighted, hammer-action keybeds, if any. The whole allure of the SP6 is the great sounds, light weight, and graded hammer-action--just like a piano.
  4. Great sounding board for a one-board solution! Love the action, love the light weight and big sounds. If I am in need of anything else, I can stack either a Hammond clone or a synth board for a second-tier setup and have a killer lightweight rig for just about anything!
  5. Really wide price range in this comparison: Nord Stage 88 is $3500-4500 and the Kurzweil SP6 is $1300 street. Kurzweil keeps great company!
  6. I agree with all of this. The KB3 is surprisingly good, especially for a one-board solution. Much better than my old PC2x. Of course, if I want better, I have a Hammond SK1-73 that works great as a top board in a two-tier setup. The SP6 pianos, EPs, and strings are outstanding, as is the keybed. Thanks to Dave Weiser I also have a few more sounds now!
  7. I agree. I am finding the action of the SP6 much better than my ageing PC2X, which I always thought had a decent action. You just have to find the appropriate velocity curve that you like. I had to adjust mine in the global settings. Great board for the price, and very light. I am hauling it in an older Kaces slim 88 case that I used to haul my PC2X in. Very similar to the GKB slim 88 and can be lifted in one arm, or used with the wheels.
  8. Thanks for the response. I will PM him. Looks like Kurzweil also has sounds available that will work with the SP6, but I like Dave's sounds when I listened to the demos. I still have my PC2x with orchestral ROM and classic keys, but keep it at home mainly due to the weight. I really like the sound, feel and simplicity of the SP6, though, and a dual rig with the Hammond SK1-73 is killer.
  9. The SP6 has a very nice action, IMO. It is better than my old PC2x, and seems reminiscent of a Fatar Studiologic piano controller keyboard I had years ago. You can set the Hammond organs to play at the high point in the keys while keeping the pianos at the low or regular point. The piano sounds are outstanding. Very rich and detailed. To me, with a few more sounds, this is an all-around good gig board, and one that might do in a pinch when only one board is desired and good piano action is a necessity. I had been gigging with a Hammond SK1-73 which of course had killer B3, and some decent to passable other sounds, but piano was always a little compromised. I will still keep that board, but it may end up as a top board, with the Kurzweil SP6 underneath for piano duties and strings/layers.
  10. Does this offer still stand? I have a Kurzweil SP6 I just bought. Looking for a few more sounds, including more polyphonic synthesizer pads and other sounds. Anyone here who owns or has ordered one can have my sounds free of charge.
