  1. In fact (prepare to get really mad...) when I was testing with hidden sounds before the CTRLR Editor, I discovered that you CAN use this to access to hidden sounds... Let's explain: If you want to access hidden sounds WITHOUT the CTRLR Editor you will need an external MIDI controller that sends the PC/MSB/LSB changes to VR-09 via 5pin MIDI IN... but VR-09 CAN send those changes with registrations so if you plug the VR-09 MIDI OUT to VR-09 MIDI IN you can send the PC/MSB/LSB change messages (stored in registrations) to the VR-09 using the VR-09 itself !!! Of course you would need to know the PC/MSB/LSB data of a certain hidden sound and configure a registration that sends it to get that hidden sound... but anyway, is quite cool that the keyboard is able to send MIDI messages to itself.
  2. I supossed it... I've heard that VR09 hasn't been built as a MIDI controller so the knobs and drawbars didn't send MIDI (so you can't control another organ VSTi). =( I can't wait... =p
  3. ...and could you (theorically) match the sysex of the 16" drawbar to an Osc parameter AND to the inverted value of the ATTACK change? Maybe it's not possible, I usually have very silly ideas but if it could be possible you would get the assigned sysex and, at the same time, would revert the attack, decay, release, cutoff or resonance changes done by the 16", 5 1/3", 8", 1" or LEVEL fader... don't you think? Maybe this idea was discussed before, but this is the first thing that came to my mind when I read your post before What do you think about?
  4. First of all, thanks for credit... but, even if I had the idea, you are the one who is developing it, so thanks for all the work you're doing!! I'm afraid no ... even JD-XA/Xi do not have this In fact, the JD-Xi actually HAVE the options to modify delay feedbak and wetness amount... so if both synths share the same effect processor it could be possible, but I really don't know... It might be tested. At the other hand, hexachorus is not present in JD-Xi, so it makes me think that maybe the effect engine is different in both machines, so SysEx messages wouldn't work... Anyway, Franky is much more experienced in MIDI and SysEx messages than me, so I'm sure he will test everything and he will find lots of new funtions for our VR09. As I said, thanks friend!! Lloyd
  5. Take a look at the MIDI Implementation File for VR-09. At the section 7 of this document (called 'Tone List') you will find the 'Program Change' messages for access ALL the (non-GM) individual sounds. You will need to put VR-09 'MIDI Mode' in 'Mode 2' (You'll find this in MENU->MIDI->MIDI In Mode), then send a 'MSB/LSB Bank Change' as well as the 'Program Change' message to a certain MIDI Channel, this can be easily done with most of MIDI controllers... If you want to select tones in 'Upper' send the MSB/LSB/PC Change Message to the Upper MIDI Channel (Configured in MENU->MIDI... Default is Ch.4) and if you want it in 'Lower' send it to the Lower MIDI Channel (Default value is Ch.3). I.E. if you want to put in 'Upper' the sound 'N.AcousticBs' (you know, this magnific Upright Bass in the bass section ) you will need to send the message MSB:006/LSB:000/PC:118 in Ch.4... Take in consideration 3 important things: 1st: if the VR-09 'MIDI Mode' is in 'MODE 1', every channel will play GM2 tones, so please, ensure you've entered the 'MODE 2'... 2nd: You CAN NOT BE ABLE to select organ section in this way... only PIANO/SYNTH/DRUMS sections are accesible. 3rd: In the VR-09 OS, MSB/LSB banks go from 000 to 127, but PC goes from 1 to 128, so if your controller's OS sends PC from 000 to 127 you will need to substract "1" to the PC values in MIDI Implement tone list. I hope it will help you Lloyd.
  6. Are you sure it can't? Maybe we are not talking about the same thing, but I usually send "program change" MIDI messages to the VR-09 (I've used a PC, a MIDI Keyboard Controller and a Roland RC-3 MIDI Program Changer). I'm not sure if it can change registrations via MIDI (I think not...), but it definitely can receive "program change" MIDI messages .
  7. As far as I know, each drum pattern use each own drum preset and it can't be changed (please, correct me if I'm wrong)... BUT... you can create a MIDI drum sequence, assign the desired drum kit (including MSB/LSB/PC config in the SMF) and play it through the VR-09.
  8. Thanks for taking time to test it... I'll upload some registrations with hidden sounds as soon as I have a little time.
  9. First of all, thanks for trying to give me an answer... then, let's go to give a little more background: In the VR-09 MENU/MIDI can set which channels are assigned to each part... by default UPPER: Ch.4, LOWER: Ch.03, PEDAL: Ch.2, DRUMS: Ch.11, CONTROL: Ch.16. The UPPER channel is the "main one", I mean, the one used when you play a single tone or when you play the upper part in a split, so when you want to send Bank/Program change MIDI message you have to send it to a UPPER channel (remember, by default UPPER: Ch.4). You can also send it to a LOWER Channel and changes will applied to a lower part of a Split/Layer, but in my tests, there's some cases in which the behavior of the VR-09 was a little strange (nothing really special, only a part that doesn't sounds or a volume "linked" in both parts...) so I think it's better to send those MIDI messages to the UPPER part. You can send MIDI Messages in some ways... A) Connecting the VR-09 to a computer via USB port and using some MIDI software. I used MIDI-Ox or Mountain Utilities MIDI Tools, both freeware and with lots of good functions (MIDI-Ox -> View/Control Panel // MIDI Tools -> View/Program Changer). B) You can use a MIDI external hardware, such a controller keyboard connected to MIDI IN port (I've tested some of them... the last one was a cheap Alesis Q49) or even a MIDI Program Changer (I've tested a vintage Program Changer by Roland, the RC-3... but this hardware was not able to send MSB/LSB changes, only Program Change). C) There's another less common option (in fact, one of the rarest things I've done...) which consist in use the VR-09 itself as a MIDI controller for itself... This method requires some extense instructions, so I've explain them in some other time ... but it's possible to do it!! Well it's all, I think... now it's testing time! Hope to see some answers in a brief! Thanks a lot, friends! D.
  10. Hi, I'm a VR-09 user and I have a little question for anyone... I know there's an upgrade for firmware (from 1.03 to 1.11) but despite all the sound improvements and the new rotary I don't want to apply it before ensure that the "hidden sounds", (those only accesible using MSB/LSB/PC MIDI messages) are still there. I'm aware almost every single user in this forum uses the VR-09 only as a clonewheel and don't care about synth tones, but I use them and I wouldn't like to loose those amount of tones (I have almost 200 new synth tones cataloged... I hope to finish collecting them as soon as possible and then I'll upload them to the forum ^_^) So, please, anyone who have done the upgrade to 1.11, can you try it and tell me if all those sounds are still accesible? It's needed to send to the VR-09 a MIDI message with a MSB bank/LSB bank/Program change... here some examples: (Specially interesting that "Lyric Soprano voice" and the "Jazz Flute") (PC are counted from 1-128. Remember to substract one if you send PC from 000-127) MSB:009/LSB:000/PC:50 --> Soprano Lyric Sing tone MSB:000/LSB:000/PC:85 --> Tubular Bells tone MSB:000/LSB:000/PC:71 --> Mandolin tone MSB:007/LSB:000/PC:99 --> Jazz Flute tone I hope someone can solve this question, because I really, really, REAAAAAALLY want to try this "Rotary Type 3" >_< Thanks a lot friends, D.
  11. Hi friends! I'm new in this forum, but a VR-09 user for a few months. Just a funny question... (I don't know if it has been discussed before...) which drum kit is assigned to each rhythm pattern in the VR-09? It may seem a strange question but here's my case: 1st. - I've conected my VR-09 to my computer via USB. 2nd. - On my notation software I've selected the new "USB Audio Device" (of course it's the VR-09) as the default MIDI Output. 3rd. - Now I'm going to writte some rhythms and drums music, so I've set the MIDI channel to 10 BUT NOTHING MORE, so the MIDI data I'll send to the VR-09 will be played in channel 10 (drums) with the last settings used or with the default settings... I've noticed that when any Rhythm pattern IS PLAYED BEFORE I send the MIDI data, the drumkit used for the channel 10 is different... and I mean REALLY different!! As far as I know in GM1 the drumkits had less sounds than GM2 kits -usually from C2 to C7, more or less-, but sending MIDI data in this way I get sounds that I can't find anywhere: it goes up to C10 and I've found really cool sounds like snare or cymbal "buzz rolls", single claps or even real voice samples (depending on which rhythm pattern has been played before... I've tested it with "Swing 1", "Swing 2" and "Swing 3")... I tried to set the GM2 kits on the notation software (MSB:120, LSB:0, Patch:1/9/17/25/26/33/41/49/57, according to the MIDI implementation of the VR-09) and when I do this I can't find those "Strange" drum sounds... I've also tried connecting a MIDI controller (88 Keys) to the VR-09 for plaing a Drum Kit with a larger keyboard, in order to test the notes outside the key range of the VR-09 (61 Keys). Nothing, the usual Drum Kits don't play those sounds. so here's my questions: How can I access this drumkits? Where and/or what they are? and of course, How can I assign those drumits to my MIDI Channel 10? Thanks a lot for the patience, I know it was a very large post... I hope someone could help me. Lloyd.
