  1. Even if the telecom part is lightning fast, there is still the analog-digital and digital-analog conversion which, for now, is slow in millisecond terms.
  2. This is exactly the sort of mentality I have adopted over the years.I have a Nord Stage 3 and with the samples and synth section worked on for several months, I ended up with a set for two acts that I play in. The sounds are good enough for small venues with oversize bass and guitar amps the suppress even the drums, but for larger venues where I have less worries about the stage sound mixing with PA, I carry a second board (a Nord Lead A1 or Yamaha MX49, depending on the type of gig), even a third (a Moog Subsequent 37) at times. Most of the time, I find myself comping with my main board, and I play the others three or four times during the whole show. It's a wholly different story in the studio though...
  3. I play, among others, a trio of keyboards, guitar, drums, with me on LH bass. We usually open with an instrumental, Green Onions, Blue Monk (usually tied to Everyday I Have The Blues), or a swing standard. In our last gig, we did a swing version of Billie Jean, Moon Over Bourbon Street, some slow T-Bone Walker blues, etc. It all depends on the crowd, if we are playing in a small dinner bistro, it's more jazz oriented, if it's more like a club, we include faster shuffles and some classic rock-ish tunes (eg Black Magic Woman).
  4. "Master Syfodias had ordered these ten years ago"
  5. There is one at the studio that we had our rehearsals, and I played it a couple of times when I didn't want to carry my rig. Bad decision... If you are planning to play anything similar to a piano, the touch is way too light for that. I didn't like it on organ patches either, too springy at release, but feels like a pound of steak when you press them.
  6. Two drops of glycerine in each ear helps soften the wax, in 24 hours some of it just oozes out. Washing is not done anymore unless there is an absolute medical necessity, it harms the eardrum with the high pressure waterjet.
  7. I would have dedicated all my available time to music and forget about professional office life. Yes, I might have had a hard time, but it would have been a much more meaningful life.
  8. I'm using Notion with an Ipad Pro 10.7" and an Apple Pencil (the original one), and quite happy with it. It gets a while to get used to, and has some quirks when entering notes, ties and rests (you have to do them in a certain order), but the result is good.
  9. Im using a Macbook Air mid-2015, 2.4 GHz i7, 8 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD. It should be enough for anything but XL samples, but two synth layers with Arturia V (synclavier and dx7) killed the cpu. It may be the Focusrie 2i2 Scarlett USB, but I gave up at that point. I might use the small Roland jdxi for some synth sounds (it sounds good enough for small venue gigs), but I have to get the laptop solution worked out, especially for out-of-town gigs that I have to travel by air.
  10. Do you use an external sound card, or go with the internal audio? I've been having problems with an external sound card re latency (I'm trying to use a couple of Arturia V collection synths.)
  11. Maybe a bit OT, but does anybody have any experience using the MODO bass?
  12. I split the Nord Stage 3 for bass on the E1-E3 range, but I also use a lead synth (Nord Lead A1 or Moog Subs37) on top. I have prepared song settings for LH bass and a piano, e piano, B3, and some pads, and I can shift seamlessly on the NS3.
  13. I just downloaded the "new" Pink Floyd album, been through the whole lot once. Sounds like Wright and Gilmour jamming in the studio most of the time (leftovers from The Division Bell sessions, so we're told.) Doesn't cut through the mix... At least not for me...
