  1. Yamaha have a massive showroom in Soho, they've got one of every instrument Yamaha make (not an exaggeration). They're super helpful there, they should be able to sort your friend out.
  2. If you're in a room with a drummer, or even just with amplification, wear plugs. Once you have it, there's no cure, all you can do is make sure that you're not making it worse. On the plus side you do learn to cope with it,and the are things you can do to improve it, white noise when you sleep and so on. Make sure you get your ear wax cleaned properly every so often too. Having a buildup can make it worse, and wearing plugs a lot can cause it to build up faster.
  3. Hi everyone, it's been a while! Had lots of musical and non-musical stuff to keep me away sadly. Anyway, I've been playing keys in a Rammstein tribute band for the last year or so, and it's a blast. Got the pyro, got the treadmill, got the costumes! The downside is the PC3K8 I use for the gig. It's way too big for this kind of gig so I'm looking around for downsizing options. I can't find a PC3K6 anywhere so am looking into software. I'm very taken with the idea of using a Komplete Kontrol 61 Mk2 live because of the light guide but I can't find anything online about setting it up the way I want to, with different colours for all the different sample zones. A common setup for this gig might be a handful of one-shot sounds on the bottom octave (each a different colour), then a couple of octaves of custom string/choir samples in Kontakt in another colour, then a lead from Massive (or Kontakt if it's easier) at the top in another colour again. Does anyone know if this setup is possible, and what software (Windows preferably) would I need to look at to make it happen? Bonus points if it can receive MIDI patch changes from our playback system! I've read them excellent post from EscapeRocks from a couple of years ago about this but I'm hoping people can provide a bit more detail. TIA!
  4. I had a Sampson SM10 for a while which was great for routing but a bit noisy for my taste. Nowadays I use a Scarlett 18i20 as both an interface and a programmable mixer which works really well. It seems like there's a huge gulf in price between the lower quality rack mixers like these Samson and the top drawer Radial gear, and without going down the full digital desk route, the Focusrite fits the bill on price and features nicely.
  5. I like! The sound very much fits the music I've been making of late, and I love the visualizations.
  6. That's pretty spectacular. Also, was that Robert Fripp having a fight in the steelworks?
  7. I normally upgrade every other version but with Straylight, Pharlight and Noire all included I'm very tempted. Will probably wait until it's on sale though - I don't need it that urgently!
  8. From what I've heard about EJ from people who've worked with him, this does not surprise me.
  9. Yeah,- and bring back the ribbon controller- and BC- connectors as well please. A.C. Yeah, I would miss the ribbon
  10. I love it. I love that they've thrown together so many cool, weird ideas together in one box and I love that they're fully embracing all the bonkers stuff you can do with digital synth techniques. It's a sound design paradise! I think my Skulpt 2.0 will be out the door as soon as it arrives in favour of this...
  11. Oh how I wish I'd bought a Forte instead of a PC3K back when it was announced! This is amazing! Also here's a game, think of another synth manufacturer that has released a v4 of *anything*
  12. Beautifully sleek! I'm regretting going for a studio desk with only two 4u bays instead of 3.
  13. I've realised that I've got tons of jams and half-finished demos lying around the place that need to see the light of day so I'm going to start putting them online. Here's the first one, made on my phone over the course of a few train journeys and lunch breaks: [video:youtube]
  14. Punk rock isn't often associated with keyboards but I saw this band at the weekend and was blown away. Serious Cardiacs vibes (always a good thing) and seeing 100-odd punks pogoing to a big widdly synth solo warmed my heart! And no guitarist too I miss playing music people can dance to [video:youtube] (and before you get censorious, yes he can "actually" play)
