  1. Thanks all for the votes of confidence. There seems to be a growing following for the affordable VR-09. It's a gem and I expect to explore and find uses for the bells and whistles. I also expect to keep it around even after I move up the drawbar food-chain. Battery power-Hello! Camping keyboard? This is definitely NOT the Hammond purists organ. But it can be a good organ and there's nothing resembling an organ near the price. Roland seems to be supporting it and hopefully continues with the SW updates. I'll probably pull the trigger this weekend. Thanks again. See you on the hints and tips thread!
  2. Dave, I expect they ARE very different with the XK1C being much more authentic. Would the VR-09 hamper my enjoyment of learning and playing organ tunes? That is my objective. I really don't need the syntheprizes inside the VR. OK I do like pitch-bending. I played a lot of Rascals on that first Hammond-Suzuki "X" model with a "synth" keyboard, back when I (apparently) had money. Before that I used a Yamaha DX-21 synth for organ. Egad! Before that I played Mom's Wurlitzer organ in the living room - also with diving board keys. Blissfuly ignorant and necessarily frugal. I would love a real Hammond clone, but for 60% more and twice what I paid for my piano, what will I be missing?
  3. After long soul-searching, I think I'm going to order the VR-09 over the Hammond XK-1C. The price dropped $100 and tilted the scale to Roland. The VR-09 street price is now $900. Roland coming through with firmware updates and Axial downloads also helps this decision. I need an organ with my PX-350 for practice and jamming at home, but gig-capable. I really like the XK-1C as a pure instrument but it's now $500+ more. If I get back into a band I can justify upgraded gear, but this rig should get me going. No stores nearby to try one, but back in the 90's I had a Hammond XB-2 with diving board keys and didn't know any better. LOVED that organ. Hoping the VR-09 will have a similar feel.
