  1. If you need more volume on stage (I believe Aspen covered this topic early on), you probably should have started with a Motion Sound amp. I use the 200w version and play outside at several events and it has plenty of volume and we are a pretty loud classic rock band. I do have my signal routed to FOH and a bit coming back through the monitors so that may make a difference. Some groups may not have that luxury. It also works great in smaller clubs. JMO
  2. Can't remember if it was the Casio XW-P1 or the Roland VR-09 but both were bought within a month of each other. Eventually, one of them will replace my old Yamaha YPG-235 DP that I use as a rompler. Right now I'm leaning towards the Roland but part of that is because it will sit below the GAIA I'm using as my synth. Either one would work as a stand in for my Hammond XK-1c if something went wrong with it at a gig, but I think the VR-09 would be a tad better for this situation because of the Leslie sim. Other than that, pretty close with the other sounds.
  3. You guys should've bought a Hammond. Yeah, and have compatibility issues with the USB stick you're trying to use to update it to take care of the compatibility issues you are having. Been there, done that but all is good now! Hope I didn't come across the wrong way this earlier post. I have three different clones (which I will include the VR-09 in that pack along with a ver2 digital Korg CX-3 with vent and the newer Hammond XK-1c that I have.) I actually bought the VR-09 because of Craig and his deep devotion in what he thought was a good product at the price point it was sitting at. Although I think the Hammond is the best of the three when it comes to the organ end of it, each has a place for someone to enjoy. The extra voices on the VR-09 are very good in my opinion and the organ section is really not bad at all. My poke was more towards the Hammond I own and not anything else. Every clone is going to have something that one can always pick at as not being up to snuff.

  5. Or just press and hold the transpose button then press the octave down '-' button twice. Works both ways. Or just play the part in 'Bb'.
  6. Got my VR-09 yesterday and didn't get into it much at that time. I've played it more today and I have to say that it is better than what I expected. The organ section is good and the piano sounds, to me, are usable. With an iPad, I'm sure I can tweak the synth sounds to duplicate what I've done on my GAIA. I've ordered the Roland DP-10 damper pedal for it but don't see it necessary to order an expression pedal for it right now. That will come later if I need it. Next thing to get will be an iPad for my son (which I can hopefully borrow) to use with it for deep editing. You think he will go for that?
  7. Got the confirmation from Sweetwater that my VR-09 is on the way. This board will sit at home for a while so I can hopefully learn it inside and out, which probably won't happen. I will probably use it for when our classic rock band practices or may use it as the main board with my country band. I originally wanted it to use in the rock band as a quick set-up, 1 hour show, 20 minute band change-over lower board to my Hammond XK-1c but I see some other possibilities with it. I will try to give a short review of what I think after messing around with it for a couple of days. Wish me luck!
  8. It's probably easier to use one of the full size ones rather than one of the Minis, just because everything will be bigger. Other than that, no real difference I'm aware of, for this purpose. Thanks Scott. That's probably what I will go for in the used market if possible. For the most part, it will be for my son anyway. All I need it for is to modify the deep edits for any registrations and that will be about it.
  9. In anticipation of getting my VR-09 from Sweetwater before too long (they changed their arrival time from Roland from weeks to days on their web site), is there a recommended iPad model to use with the editor. I don't want the biggest or the best but if I could buy one used at a decent price I wouldn't mind it. I'd rather pay a few extra bucks for one that is easier to work with.
  10. Hi all. Got a quick question about the Portamento feature of the VR-09. Is there anyway it can be changed on the fly without diving into the menu?
  11. Jcazzy No there doesn't seem to be any way to adjust synth velocity sensitivity on the VR-09 itself.. However, as I go through the synth sounds it seems like most are older/traditional synth style (without velocity).. and there are lot's to choose from. If you want to do any serious editing of the synth sounds you have to use the iPad editor. All of the organ parameters are available on the VR-09 itself, but as far as the virtual analog synth goes, only high level editing is possible.. (ADSR cutoff/resonance). If you go to Menu/Keyboard/Initial Touch - you have values of 1-10 & off. This is programmable per registration. I used this to have sounds that did not respond to velocity, like synths & string machines, but still have ones that do, like pads, real strings, etc. Of course, velocity will not affect the filter either - that would require "deep" editing with the Ipad app. Thanks Dan. Good info that I will need when it arrives. Anxious to see what this puppy is all about. Don't want to buy an iPad if I can avoid it but may get one for my son to use and for me to borrow. Excuses, excuses, excuses.

I guess I will find out what I can edit with the menu as I've ordered one from Sweetwater this afternoon. Only problem is they are out of stock at this time and I was wanting to get it to use when I do a show next weekend at a festival. One of those 15 minutes to set up and tear down deals between shows thing. As before, I want to use it more for everything else instead of the organ. I hope I won't be disappointed with it. From everything I've seen it should be good.
  13. Thanks Craig! I suspect this setting can also be accessed via the display menu on the unit also, correct? I don't have an iPad to use the editor.
  14. Thanks! That's what I would need it for as I have a few sounds on the GAIA that I have as default (standard saw and square wave) sounds and would like to program them into the VR-09 to use as needed. The GAIA drove me crazy until I turned the touch velocity feature off. I'm sure there are people that take full advantage of this feature regardless of what synth it pertains to, but that is something I do not want to use. Sorry, old 70's school speaking again! Thanks for your input.
  15. Thanks Craig. I would assume that the synth engine in the 09 would be much like the GAIA so I would think that could be turned off. Thanks for the response and let me know what you find out using the editor.
