  1. https://reverb.com/item/36220329-yamaha-emt-1-emt-sound-expander-modules-owned-and-used-by-rick-wakeman-of-yes-1990-black I think I got $30 for mine 20 years ago. Damn, I should have let Rick Wakeman borrow them before I put them up for sale.
  2. Fun to see this somewhat old tread come alive again. It made me realize that I forgot to follow up on my promised feedback regarding how I liked the Mellotron 4000D Mini I bought more than a year ago. So here it comes, I love it! It sounds realistic to my ears, and it sits really well in he mix and cuts through just the way it is supposed to. It is warm and alive and has no digital harshness that I can hear, but I can't tell if it sounds just like the original as I haven't had a chance to compare it with the real thing. It is kind of sad that the extra sound banks are way too expensive, but you will do fine with what's in it if you are looking for the classic Mellotron sounds used by many 70's bands. If it is worth the money? Hardly, but then again, what is? The good thing is that it seems like they are holding their value in the used instrument market pretty well, and they still sell for at least the same as I paid for mine a year agao. So if I should decide to sell and get something else I would be fine. Regarding the "supplier" linked to above, that is the manufacturers web site. http://www.mellotron.com
  3. Could not resist a mint condition 1975 Solina String Ensemble that came up for sale locally. My next purchase will be a Small Stone Phaser to get that sweet 70's sound.
  4. A.C. obviously hasn't got the idea behind the HX3. Of course Keyboardpartner could have made a fully functional version just like other major brands do and put it out on the market as it is and call it a final version, even if they know it isn't perfect. That's what some major brand manufacturers do. Maybe the major brand offers a mid-life update, maybe not... After a year or two they release a new version, 30% higher priced and with a few more bells and whistles and a new trendy color. This is what Yamaha has been doing to their customers for years with the Motif series. If you want the newer version, well, then you buy the newest gear. Keyboardpartner on the other hand gives you the better instrument free of charge whenever they have something better to come up with. You don't have to buy a new box, the one you have will work for a long time. If you are too lazy to take advantage of that and then also use it against them saying the product they first sold was a beta or unfinished product, then I think you are totally out of line.
  5. I just installed the new firmware version 4.11 on my HX3 and this is another big step in the right direction. The chorus vibrato CV3 now sounds really good and very similar to my A100. I haven't had time to do any adjustments to it, and right now I don't even feel the need for it either, which must be a good thing. Another thing I like is that the HX3 module now only makes sound on the 5 octaves it is supposed to be used for. I never cared for the extended key range. https://github.com/keyboardpartner/HX3/tree/master/LATEST
  6. So I finally made a decision and bought a mint used Mellotron M4000D Mini. I have not received it yet but when it arrives I will let you know if it made me smile or not. From what some of you wrote here I think it might be just what I want, and that to a price much less than a new Memotron M2K or the M4000D
  7. I know I probably would have been a better person if I gave the money to my poor neighbors, but since I likely am the one with least income in my neighborhood I get a little confused about what to do here. At least there is one thing I can assure you and that is that nobody I know about around here are digging in the dumpsters for food. On the other hand, if this was an attempt to make me feel bad about my priorities, you sure succeeded.
  8. I don't think these instruments are intended for "most players". They will most likely be happy with the good Mellotron samples in their Nord whatever. As I think of them they are made for people like me who think there is a difference between a short looped sample and 8-9 seconds of recordings of an actual instrument presented in a way that makes the musician get closer to the feel of the real thing without all the unreliability of the original instrument, not to mention the cost of buying the real thing today. Also keep in mind that not everyone are playing in a classic rock cover band. I am playing in a progressive rock band where the Mellotron sound is a major part of the soundscape. I also think of the Mellotron as an inspirational thing. With this in mind I don't think it is too expensive.
  9. You are about to make my life miserable expensive. I was hoping someone would say the less expensive Memotron M2K was just as good as the Mellotron M4000D and that it would be a nice deal with the built in effects and so on. I was also expecting someone to say that the Mellotron sounds a little to "sterile" since what we hear are the master tapes without the "soul" from an actual Mellotron involved. So let me ask, does the M4000D justify its higher price tag over the Mini? Sound wise they appear to be the same but the Mini has no real time control through after touch. Is that a feature you think I can live without or would it be wise to wait until I have the money to go for the best? Thanks again.
  10. I believe I've wanted a Mellotron as long as I have known about their existence. In fact I almost bought one back in the early 80's, but backed out of the deal because it just did not seem to be a very reliable touring instrument. Anyway, my Mellotron fetish has never left me, and now that I am playing in a progressive rock style band I am checking out the newer digital options. And no, the software based things are just not my style so let's leave those out of the discussion. Currently we have two to choose from, the Swedish Mellotron M4000D and the German Manikin Memotron M2K . My problem is that I have no way to take these for a test ride or to compare them before I eventually purchase one, and there is not really a lot of information or comparisons to find on the net either to help me on the subject so I really need some help here. If I got it right the Mellotron use HQ digital samples of the Mellotron and Charberlain Master tapes, while the Memotron use samples of the sound out of Mellotrones. Hopefully someone here have tried them both or at least one of them and can tell about your subjective impressions of these instruments to help me make the right decision if I should go out of my mind and order one.
  11. vanderSchoot, I totally agree with you on your impression. I am not a jazz organ player, but when I first used my HX3 with the progressive rock band I am playing with the other members of the band told me they never ever heard a Hammond simulator cutting through like this. In fact, after I bought the HX3 I for the first time no longer miss the old worn A100 I used to haul around for years. Transparent is not a word that comes to my mind when I describe the sound of the HX3. To me it sounds just like a rock organ is supposed to sound. Full and dirty and with a tone that cuts through just about anything. At least I am happy.
  12. Very interesting. Unfortunately I have not been able to test the Mojo, but I am also wondering if the test result and comparison would have been different if the HX3 had the latest firmware, as I have an impression that the updates did more than just affect the Leslie simulator. Since I am relatively new to the HX3 I have not been able to compare the old FW to the newer so I don't know.
  13. Bruce, I think what Microsoft are trying to tell you is that the file is not supported or "secure" according to their standard. I think I got a similar message, but it is easy to get around it by clocking the text in the box saying tell me more or something like that. When you click that text line you are told about the safety risks, and then you are given the option to go on even if it may harm your computer. Screw Microsoft and their paranoia and go on and I am sure you will be fine.
  14. You will find the HX3 remote program at this page https://github.com/keyboardpartner/HX3/tree/master/LATEST Download HX3_firmw_390.zip and the remote app is there named hx3_remote Hopefully this will help.
