  1. Thanks for the info, Myles. And just so you know, it would be an open-back cab to be sure, or at least a "divided" 4 x 12" where 1/2 would be closed-back, and 1/2 would be open-back. The more I get to hear amps and cabs in person, the more I come to realize that I prefer the sound of open-backed 2 x 12" combos...and that for me, nothing beats a good "dirty-clean" coming through a pair of Blues. And thanks for the tip on where to get a good EF86. cheers, aeon
  2. Myles: I have 2 questions: 1. Do you know of any soundclips of the Victoria Sovereign that are online? 2. In general, given a dual-EL34 50w class-AB "plexi-style" amp where the power tubes are going to be pushed for the overdrive (so "old-school" preamp design), is it safe to run with a 4 x 12" of Celestion Blue AlNiCos (rated at 60w total)? I ask because although these amps are usually rated @ 50 watts output, I wasn't sure if that was the real output ceiling, or the rating for clean output before power tube overdrive. thanks, aeon
  3. Myles: check your PMs! thanks! aeon
  4. Myles...three questions: 1. do you have any online soundclips of the Victoria Sovereign? 2. have you tried running the Sovereign with a pair of THD Yellowjackets? 3. given the quality of new EF86 valves, I assume that NOS is the only way to go for V1...it seems that so much of the amp is built around the unique characteristics of the EF86, but have you tried it with the new GT EF86/12AX7 socket replacer? thanks, aeon
  5. Myles: I have never done the wiring in a guitar before, but I have attempted to design a layout for one. Guitar will be a Tele, with a Joe Barden T-Style in the bridge and a Barden Two-Tone in the neck. The Two-Tone is a 6-wire humbucker with a true dual-coil-tap. It uses a 5-position megaswitch, 250k pots and a capacitor of undetermined value Would you mind taking a look at it and letting me know if it looks workable to you? thanks in advance, aeon
  6. Myles: I have a couple of questions about that Fender Pro Reverb you are working on. With the fairly high B+ voltage it uses, it is able to derive ~50 watts from a duet of 6L6 valves. How does the Pro Reverb make the switch to 12.5 watts? Does it only use one of the 6L6s and also drop the B+ voltage, or does it continue to use both valves with a more severe drop of the B+ voltage? A pair of THD Yellowjackets will usually drop a 50 watt amp to 20 watts as it moves from 6L6 to EL84. Do you think the Pro Reverb quarter-power mode would still function with EL84s, giving an output of ~5 watts? The Pro Reverb had already caught my attention, but your praise of it has heightened my interest further. Thanks in advance!
  7. shoot it before it multiplies!
