  1. Hey... just wanted to let you know A WK 225 just showed up near me.It looks very similar to LK 280 but has 76 keys So Scott's info is much appreciated.... just looking into this for mainly Rhodes sounds and something that runs on batteries.. The newer Casios havent hit GC near me... but this is a bit more affordable Curious if sound engine the same as LK280 According to above info from Scott this might be a Ticket to Ride....
  2. Thank you for all that info Scott. I will be on the look for some of those other models As far a recent Casio Rhodes being better.....I haven't heard the latest models. This LK280 could have been just what I needed...a portable 10 pound board that runs on AA batteries and has a good Rhodes sample I have a Casio 691 61 with the programmable drawbar organ. Its good for portable practice The drawbar setting I use is an 808000000. and I use the Stereo Phaser effect for slow leslie. It sounds decent overall...good for practicing .The percussion sucks...its way too loud 691 is the same as WK3000 series. I have used these for recording over the years many times. The flute on this thing is killer! I have used it to solo on ...it sounds natural as hell. I can use organ... vibes and saxophones on it and make it sound good. The acoustic bass on WK 3000 series is also good.. Casio has given us great stuff over the years at good prices. On the used market there are some real bargains. I would love to try the new smaller red Casio but Guitar Center near me still does not carry them. What ever the model is ... can't remember.
  3. First of all I am not necessarily talking about this being a pro level rig...but that Rhodes is better than a lot of pro level Rhodes samples I have heard I am looking for a portable practice rig with a sound that I can stand. Over the years Casio has put some damn good sounds into their affordable boards. Case in point...the saxophones on the WK3000 and CTK 691 are actually very musical...as is the Velocity flute. I use the drawbar organ for practice to this day Doesn't surprise me that Peter Gabriel uses sounds from LK .. Some of them are very good. That is why I am pursuing this There is an assumption on this forum that we must only discuss the latest and greatest and most expensive gear. I am not of that type of mindset Kudos to Casio for giving us some good sounds over the years in affordable instruments. Especially now I am able to experiment with some of them at affordable prices. Is the LK soundset in other Casio boards? I want that Rhodes!!!
  4. So in order to get into the sound engine I would have to run it into a computer? And back out ? This seems like crazy making. On older boards with midi in /midi out I should be able to trigger the sounds via another midi board. A friend of mine got into the key contacts and several of them are dead. No way to fix anything...the keybed is hard wired into the motherboard. The reason I even pursue this is because this thing has one of the better Rhodes samples I have heard. I would be curious to know if any other Casio boards feature this sound The patch is called Dyno EP1..It has some subtle tyne sounds...Damnit . I was hoping to fix it but it cant be fixed. Anyway I am no fan of USB midi. I don't understand..... why the older midi system was eliminated in boards like this. Also curious about what year this was made. Casio should consider using this sample. Many of you would like it. I certainly like it better than several of the recent Rhodes on current 88 key boards from Casio. What a tease...
  5. Yesterday I found an older Casio LK 280 in a bargain bin in a thrift store It had batteries in it so I decided to check out the sounds This thing has a fairly decent Rhodes......Dyno EP 1. The Organ Bass program does a good job of capturing the basic idea of Hammond lower manual.I also like the accordians and harmonica... it has some very useful sounds for me. The problem is some of the keys don't trigger. Question #1 is there some way to trigger the sound engine via midi? This is one of my basic complaints about the new USB midi. From what I can tell it only sends midi out... not sure if it triggers midi in. So the next question might be... do any other Casios interchange keybeds or sections of the keybed? I find older Casio instruments fairly regularly and use them as controllers for such things as a Mojo desktop module etc. That is ...if they have standard midi . I have never been wild about USB midi because its not real obvious...as in this case ...how it works. I really like some of the older Casios. The WK3000 has a bunch of useful stuff.... I still use it for practice. Would love to get this LK280 to work.... the Rhodes is really good. Hear No Evil....
  6. Missed discussion on this...looks highly interesting And it has drawbar organ engine...if I could create presets...geez no brainer I see Thomann UK has them for 975 euro...1150 US about time someone came out with a good module
  7. It looks like Dexibell has just come out with a new module ... Dexibell SX8 Well this is interesting. Have been waiting for a decent module to come out for a long time. They posted about this on Youtube about a month ago....not sure if anyone has it. Personally I am tired of buying full keyboards. I have two potentially great controllers... Yamaha CP5 and Roland RD300GX... I like the feel of both of them This may require a new thread in a few weeks after this one dies down. I would assume this could be fairly cutting edge. Your thoughts ?
  8. Also...do any one of you have the Viscount / Key B module? I am curious if it has the BC sample I mentioned above. I did get a Mojo module last year and honestly, the editing drives me crazy! I thought I would give it another chance because I already have a Key B. So Jazz Plus...do you use leslie sim when you play this type of sound?
  9. B3 Nut..... Are you sure this organ isn't the B-2 Jimmy had? Something about it screams that its an older organ. So much spit and keyclick. I have almost never heard this much click out of a 3 series organ. Now for more CV discussion. To me 2 series and V series have a different sounding CV. It's more shallow...not as much intensity of vibrato...which is what I prefer lately. There is a very interesting sample in the newer Key B / Viscount that is a sample supposedly of a BC organ. And I absolutely love it!!! There is a more shallow CV and that really deep all the way down bass. It sounds very good WITHOUT percussion and more similar to The Sermon kind of sound than any other clonewheel I have tried. I have to say....most clonewheel keyclick sounds artificial to me and that is probably due to lack of multi contacts Jazz plus.... maybe try editing your CV setting/ ? Also...the CV on this track sounds like it is on, not off . Listen between 050 seconds and 0 55. Its just more shallow that later organs.
  10. How long has the S9 been out? Piano Man Chuck did a video demo earlier this year I think...which is what caught my interest by the way. Also I am interested in it because it has a good drawbar organ and I was hoping the Rhodes might follow suit .I am frustrated with Yamaha and Roland etc. currently'. And yes now there are some fairly deep discounts floating around. I am looking for something to cover Acoustic piano/Rhodes/ Wurli/ organ.
  11. Chorus vibrato is my go to sound as it is with many jazz players. I can hear the SIM affect the percussion on most clones. On Legend live I can use percussion from the HX3 and run it separately from the SIM. This helps especially if you use slow percussion decay at all. When you run a SIM stereo you are darn near carting as much weight as a Leslie. Many clones do sound good through Leslie I admit.£+

  13. I am highly curious about the Vivo S9 from Dexibell. They are pretty spendy but after seeing the video that piano man Chuck did I am very interested in what might be going on. I would be interested in hearing from someone who has one or has played one enough to comment about it. I am curious about the action also.....the Rhodes sounds and all the usual questions. Its almost impossible to find one to demo but I would like any feedback from personal experience. I have played the Dexibell clone wheel a few years ago and I found it surprisingly good. The Italians usually get that one right... a good sign
  14. I have Legend Live...Mojo module.... HX3... and 1974 B-3 red cap in good working order. I love my B-3 but the one that comes closest to it... to me is the Legend Live / Key B/ Viscount. The Legend Live has more than a few secret weapons that set it apart. The 1930's BC sample with percussion is becoming my go to sound... even next to my B3. The CV is more shallow in a good way and the bass is out of this world. By the way I get better bass response from Legend Live than other clones. Another secret weapon...The middle pot on the 3 band EQ. It emulates the mid range dip that most leslies have .And takes the edge off of the headphone experience. Percussion volume pot and decay pot. really essential to me. Have to set it differently for different speakers and phones. I gave the Mojo another chance this year and have messed around way to much with HX3 CV settings. I go back to the Legend and ...the sound I need is there. Weakness of the Legend live is the overdrive but it does have effects loop to use overdrive pedals. By the way gooey foam 1974 B-3 is doing just fine. never had any problem. Red mylar caps are a big plus for me
  15. Regarding Bo Diddley....I kind of lost respect for him when he refused to tell me what he wanted me to play. Quite honestly...he sort of adopted the position of a plantation owner toward me. Reverse discrimination. I kept my mouth shut, played the same one measure rhythm of sixteenth notes over and over again all night long. No variation. The same beat for EVERYTHING. So anyway... lets talk guitars. I plan to do a bit bit of restoration on this . The best thing appears for me to put a pair of P-90's on it since it has now been modified for two pickups. I am also having to create a pickguard for it.... I would like to get a Guild / DeArmond pickguard for an M75 but cant seem to find one available. Getting this thing has sparked my interest in the Guild/ De Armond M75's as opposed to Les Pauls. I have been wanting a two pickup type guitar for a while that might be a bit lighter than an LP. The only place I see them currently is online, but I would love to play a modern M75 just to get the feel of the neck and overall weight. De Armond M75's look interesting to me. From what I gather they were discontinued but several are available online .A possible alternative to all these Les Pauls.
