  1. I will have the tubes re-checked. If I need replacements what do you recommend in CP or NOS? Also I have heard that removing the pre in V1 will help the amp break up earlier (assuming you're playing in the reverb channel). Is this safe for the amp? Thanks for your help!
  2. Myles- I have not been on here in a while. I recently bought a '66 blackface super reverb and I got a very good deal. Had all the caps and resistors changed. The tubes all seem fine. When I play the amp with a tube screamer (vol 5) the amp volume suddenly decreases like 80%. I can turn if off for 30 minutes and it comes right back on full volume. Any ideas?
  3. Great info as always. Thank you sir!
  4. Hey Miles, it's been a few months since our last contact and I did put the Brimar in V2 and it's fat city with the tele in V1. What would you recommend in vintage/NOS for the PI position? I have heard everything from it's not that important to you need long plate, high gain, etc.. thx
  5. Ok, is it ok to tap on the tubes to see if there is any sound?Someone suggested that, but I thought I would ask you. Reason I ask is the amp works fine in my studio at home, but playing last week in church it acted up twice on 2 different nights. At home I can't get it to recreate the sound.
  6. A few more questions Myles. If the amp is starting to make occasional noise, almost like static/white noise is this the preamp tube and how would you check it? Also I have a Groove Tubes "Brick" that I use for a preamp while for my condensor mic when doing home recording.. Was wondering if you had heard of it used in that application before. thx!
  7. OK, we dropped the bias to 76 and I am trying 2 NOS tubes from a friend. I am running a Telefunken ribbed plate in V1, a Tung-Sol reissue in V2 and a Raytheon black plate in V3. I was told to try the Raytheon in V2, but it was very trebly sounding. I have not yet purchased a Brimar. The amp definitely sounds better, somewhat warmer. However in the long run I may end up just selling the Marshall. What is your opinion of Splawn amps? thx!
  8. Myles - I will do just that and let you know how it sounds. Thank you so much!
  9. Myles- I had winged C's put in about 2 months ago and they are biased at 90 according to my tech guy here locally, he said this was Marshall's spec. He replaced my preamp tubes a month ago with 4 Ruby JJ ECC83's. I have experimented with a 5751 in V1 with mixed results, but I feel like NOS or vintage preamp tubes are the way to go, but you see so many opinions it's hard to decide. My tech was the one that told about your website which is unbelievable. thx
  10. Myles, greetings this is my first post. I have a Marshall JCM TSL. I am trying to tame the fuzzy high end sound in my lead channel. I prefer a more bluesy sound, but I love the Marshall crunch and sustain. What would you suggest I try in V1 and V2 from the NOS tubes? Thanks in advance for the great website and info. BD
