Knower rulez indeed. Also check out Clown Core with Louis Cole and Sam Gendel. It’s like Knower on steroids 😱 -
When I saw/heard MMW live for the first time (Melkweg, Amsterdam), Medeski had a wall of vintage amps behind his setup. Initially I thought of it as a gimmick. Until they started playing… wow, never, ever heard such a gorgeous, crisp and articulate keyboard sound on stage. Just jaw dropping. Now as Jim said this is simply not feasible for most of us. Nevertheless the experience changed my view on keyboards an amps entirely. I’ve tried to replicate this on a much smaller scale. That means some serious limitations, but also allows (for me) more focus on the playing and the music itself. Another game changing experience for me was seeing Patrick Muller live (w Erik Truffaz Q). The only keyboard he used was a Rhodes, but with an array of effect pedals on top. It sounded like a compete arsenal of different synths… just staggering. So… a single board not necessary means limited sound I guess. Anyway, I’m exited to see more and more boutique keyboard instruments are coming to market. Keyboardists deserve that choice (like guitarists do )

Chick Corea Elektric Band gone from itunes

Stumbled upon this. Never heard of Daniel Szabo, but apparently Chick was his mentor. Really awesome playing. -
It’s not just marketing I think. Over the years I’ve seen a lot of red keyboards at concerts and festivals. This already started in the early days of Nord. At least, here in Europe. Part of the succes is the hands-on control of these boards, for sure. For live performance you can’t beat Nord. The last concert I’ve been to was Domi and JD Beck with the Metropole Orchestra in The Hague. Domi was playing a Nord Stage and Wave 2. The encore was just the two of them playing. Amazing in every way and just 2 red keyboards and drums 😎

Yes, expensive, but Nords keep their value pretty good. I just traded my NS3c (mint) for a NS4c (at an official dealer). Almost got back what I paid 5+ years ago. Of course the increased prices for the new models help, but still, it’s reassuring. There’s a huge market for used Nords, second hand prices reflect that.

Vote for dark side, sounds more natural and warmer to my ears. Bright side mix is more polished and compressed. ‘Playing for time’ is btw a hauntingly beautiful song.

Yes, that first Joshua Redman Elastic Band album is a desert island album. Highly recommended. -

This is the real strength of the OGD line-up from a players perspective, imho. With a bassist you would have two comping roles simultaneously and be careful what harmonics you play. -

Also, organ and guitar just blend so well sonically, pure tonal bliss. -

Just posted some of the bands I follow or have seen live. Organ/guitar/drums trio is easily my favorite line-up. -
