  1. During my 23 years at Capitol Records as a promotion and marketing dude I had the chance to work with the Muscle Shoals guys when Capitol signed a distribution deal with their lable MSS Music. I remember sitting in Jimmy's office and asking him why they all stayed in Muscle Shoals. He said to me...."We all did the sessions stuff, played in tour bands, etc. EEveryone always told us how good we were so we decided if that was the case we could start our own thing right here in Muscle Shoals and if we were that good they would come to us. It has worked out pretty good for all of us....and remember, a dollar goes a lot further in Muscle Shoals than it does in LA."
  2. All things considered....including the price....the VR-09 will work great for you. But as mentioned in some of the posts above you really should try to play one before buying. If you can't find one near you then buy one from one of big online retailers. If you don't like it you can always return it..you will probably have to pay return shipping but at least you won't end up with a board you don't like.
  3. Just noticed that this topic has had 899,226 views. Amazing!!! The main VR-09 topic has racked up 1,480,571 views. Even more amazing.
  4. Justin said: I'll probably get a lot of crap for this--I've never heard anything marketed as a "Keyboard amp" that sounded pleasing to my ears, but that's just me _______________________________________________________________ +1
  5. Just watched the trailer for "Take Me To The River"...the upcoming doc about Memphis. Looks really good to me.
  6. I don't condone Craig's actions resulting with his ban on this forum _________________________________________________________________When did this happen?
  7. Question to you Sk1 and SK1-73 owners....I have the 73 and when playing the EV Eps and Aps I notice that some keys when struck give out sort of a "metallic sound"...kind of like the old time Eps with the reeds when you hit them too hard. Does this mean I am hitting the key to hard or is their some kind of adjustment such as "velocity" that will take away this harshness?
  8. Has anyone A/B'd these two pedals, or are there any advantages that the EXP 50 has over the FC7? _________________________________________________________________I have not A/B'd the two pedals...I do use the FC7 with my SK1-73. I have noticed that you have to have the pedal pushed to about 3/4 position to pick up all the harmonics of the notes/chords you are playing. With less pedal open it seems the highs start to drop out. I have owned two B3s and I don't recall this happening with them. But for the price the FC7 works.
  9. I have a Hammond Sk1-73 (new price $2400) that does the job for me as I need both organ and piano....and I really like the 73 note keyboard. But a friend of mine has a VR-09 and I think it sounds really good and for $900 you can't go wrong. Pull the trigger.
  10. how did the VR09 compare purely as an organ clone versus the older generation clonewheels, the ones that would compare to it pricewise nowadays? _________________________________________________________________ I have owned a Hammond XB2 and a Korg CX3 and I would have to say the organ sounds in the '09 are as good or better compared to them and the rotary effect is much better than either the XB2 or the CX3. The '09 for the money is the best buy out there if you need a multi-purpose board. And when you consider the price at $999 it is no contest. You can get better organ and better pianos and perhaps a better keyboard feel....but it is gonna cost you way more money.
  11. Like when is Roland is going to come out with a bug fix? _________________________________________________________________ IMHO 99% of the "bugs" don't mean anything to the most of the buyers of the VR 09. Most buyers want a low cost keyboard that is easy to load in/out....and one that they can punch in pianos and organs on the fly. All the other high tech "bugs" they could care less about. As I have said before...the VR 09 will be a huge success with the mass market buyers/players,
  12. Pulled the plug only one avail at GC was LA so will ship to NJ.GET THIS they gave me 15%the off! ________________________________________________________________ That 15% discount with GC is good only until 5/28/13.
  13. I have been watching these posts from day 1.....nothing but panties in a wad.....mostly from the "hip" B3 dudes and keyboard elites. Craig has nailed it.....the '09 is what it is....a 12 lb. keyboard that works for the 99% who will be buying it. These are the buyers who want to punch up a good organ, piano, EP, etc. No fuss, no muss...and for $999 IMHO nothing else comes close. They could care less if it does not have waterfall keys or whatever....this is a plug and play unit. Take it to your band rehearsal, take it to the jam. Crank it up in their bedroom. I predict it will be a huge success for Roland. Period.
  14. An iPad would probably handle that well for you, too. ________________________________________________________________ Or you could use a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2...currently selling at Best Buy in my area for $179. 8 gigs on the Tab 2 is plenty for what you need. I use a Tab 2 for my backing tracks on solo gigs. No problems. I am not bad mouthing Apple...just wanted to let niacin know that there are alternatives to the Ipad for a whole lot less money.
