  1. Myles, It turns out my tech was testing my amp through a 16 ohm cab and forgot to switch it back to 8 ohms. I played through it three times that way at low volume settings and noticed a pretty big difference in feel and tone from what I was used to. 1) Could this have damaged the amp? I haven't picked it up yet since I took it back to him. 2) He thinks the speaker ohm setting probably accounted for the change in feel and tone I noticed. Do you agree? 3) Do you recommend biasing Quianas at 35mA?
  2. Myles, I'm going to have my tech set to back to 35mA. I really do notice a difference in feel and tone with the 2mA increase, which surprises me. I believe you recommended 35mA for this amp in a previous conversation I had with you. Thanks for your help, Dave
  3. Myles, Is it safe to have the bias set at 37mA for a Quiana Reverb Studio? I switched techs for my last set up and he set it to 37mA instead of keeping it at 35mA where it usually is set to. It seems to have lost some sponginess in both channels. Is that a symptom of being over-biased? I'm thinking of having him reset it. Please let me know. Thanks, Dave
  4. Myles, It's been quiet here for a while. The two Rivera forums I used to frequent are inactive these days. Strange... I hope you're doing well!
  5. Myles, Would a rack mount unit like a Lexicon or Midiverb work well through the Quiana loop? Is that what the loop was mostly designed for? I'm convinced there must be a way to get a nice delay sound out of this amp. Thanks Myles.
  6. Myles, Do you have any advice for running a Boss DD3 Digital delay through a Rivera Quiana effects loop? I followed the instructions in the Rivera manual, but can't get a good sound out of it. Its sounds okay through the clean channel, but unusable through the distorted channel. I used this delay through a Marshall Jubilee for a couple of years and it worked fine. It also woked great through a Marshall 30th Anniversary, which had a parallel loop, but doesn't sound good through the Rivera loop or straight into the amp for that matter.
  7. Thanks Myles, I'll try swapping preamp tubes tonight. I agree, the Quiana is a really nice amp.
  8. Hi Myles, The midrange controls on channel 1 and channel 2 are greatly increasing the volume level when I increase their levels on my Quiana Reverb. Channel 2 is also cutting in and out and distorting. Channel 1 doesn't seem to be as affected, aside from the midrange issue. The amp was serviced a couple of months ago. My tech replaced and biased the power tubes with matched JJ 6l6GCs. He also replaced a microphonic V4 preamp tube with a JJ as well. The amp has been sounding terrific since then. Do you think this is a preamp tube issue? If so, which one do you think might be the most likely culprit? Dave
  9. Myles, Thanks for the info and for the super quick reply! Dave, No big deal. Just seat the tube a little deeper in the socket for security reasons more than anything else. Sonically it will make no difference.
  10. Myles, I just got my Quiana Reverb back from my tech, who replaced the power tubes. I noticed that the pins on one of the power tubes are not sitting flush against the tube socket. Is this okay? Should I try to push the tube in, so it's flush or can I damage something by doing so. The amps sounds great with the new tubes (JJ 6L6GC). Dave
  11. Thanks Myles, I currently have a few different pre-amp tubes in my Quiana as well. I think I'll stick with what's working for now. I have to echo your sentiments on a previous post when you recommended Rivera amps for channel-switching applications. I've had some nice Fenders and Marshalls over the years, but my Quiana is my all-around favorite.
  12. Myles, What are your thoughts about The Tube Store's Preferred Series 12AX7s? I know this is personal preference, but I'm curious since they recommend them as part of their Rivera Quiana premium package for all postions (at $23.oo a piece). Dave
  13. Myles, I'll use the 3000 hour figure as my guideline. Thanks for all the info! Dave
  14. Myles, Thanks for the info. I'll definitely check out the Winged SEDs next time around. When I was gigging regularly, I would change tubes about once a year. Since I'm (unfortunately) not pushing my Quiana these days playing at home, it's been several years since I've changed the power tubes, though I have changed preamp tubes. The amp sounds great, so is there a need to swap out the power tubes? Dave
  15. Myles, I'm retired from playing out, so I just play at home these days at low volume levels a few times a week. My amp is a Rivera Quiana 50/112. I know there are many variables regarding changing tubes, but I wonder if you can offer any basic guidelines for how often I should be changing power tubes. Thanks, Dave
