  1. I like light actions so it's a Kawai ES120 for me.
  2. It somehow reminds me of Elton John. I wonder why that big hall snare drum sound was chosen, it sounds miscast to me.
  3. I had a cataract in my right eye. So I chose a mono focal mid range toric for my left and a three way multi focal for my right. No more glasses.
  4. There's currently no audio Out signal from FaceTime when using a firewire port adapter for wired headphones which I attempted for teaching virtually. I called Apple and the only way is by using wireless Airpods. So I have to use an old iPhone 6 if I want to use my favorite wired headphones.
  5. Kawai ES series recommended, I’m not a fan of the Roland and Yamaha.
  6. I spent an entire day with Mark Levine and Barry Harris in Berkeley, California, in a room in 1987 as the two of them went over their entire systems as the tape recorder rolled. Mark and I later transcribed it. Mark Levine's "The Jazz Piano Book," which I assisted Mark in developing, covered block chording and came out in 1988. I was also the technical editor for Mark's follow-up book, "The Jazz Theory Book," in 1995. Barry Harris's book was published in 1992. I had already learned all of the block chord jazz theory previously at Berklee in the 1970s, which is where Mark learned it in the 1960s.
  7. Block chording is a jazz piano technique taught in the Mark Levine books and by Barry Harris, myself, and many others. It is standardized, is in widespread use throughout jazz piano, and is used by jazz band arrangers for the horn sections. Although it has been around for a long time, it is not out of date. The "melodic minor 6th diminished scale" in block chords has a very modern sound favored by Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea.
  8. Page 1 is from my teaching syllabus Page 2 not shown, gives examples for Cmi7 b5, C7, and C7 ALT (#9 b13)
  9. It's the "C# Minor 6th Diminished Scale" played over C7 (see Barry Harris and Mark Levine's chapter on Melodic Minor Harmony) It's C7 Alt (so simply think up a half step and play the C# melodic minor scale over the C7, it's a convenience... I see you also added the bebop passing tone of an A to balance it out into an 8 tone scale )

  12. I asked Joe Sample about his Rhodes and he said he owned two that he kept in his garage, but that for recording he'd use the nicer ones in the studios. He hit the keys relatively harder than most other players.
