  1. I give the kid credit and hope to hear more from him in the future. I'll excuse the clams because he's still a kid and I'm sure the pressure of Grandpa's legacy is there as well. [video:youtube]
  2. Rest in Peace Paul must be one heck of a jam up there!
  3. just got word that an old "troubled" band member of mine passed away at the age of 50. Cancer brought on from years of alcohol abuse and chain smoking. the guy was a brilliant musician with a fluency in counterpoint and poly-rhythm. Never took formal lessons. Read about how Frank Zappa was self-taught. He went to the library and picked up books on theory and harmony and woodsheded for marathon stretches. Unfortunately those woodshed moments had him quaffing down large quantities of cheap liquor. If he could play it on guitar, he would play it n piano and visa versa.
  4. this was the last tour that I got to see. Dave Kliminster (sic) on guitar was quite different than the final years with Marc Bonilla. I saw Keith at BB King's in NYC - one of the most memorable shows I've ever witnessed. I paid $100 extra to the "bouncer" to give me the table in front of Emerson. It was a gift for my older bro
  5. If I were single - I would have a Moog System III Modular in my living room... next to a brass/copper Italian made espresso machine... because I wouldn't sleep due to the programming urges.
  6. Having a blast with the Prologue 8: three new patches made from factory presets [video:youtube] Excerpts from Kashmir - how the Prologue might fit in Using my buzzsaw patch pardon the slop [video:youtube] I am the walrus using factory pre-set 70's Lead [video:youtube] The barking dog with slap=back delay shaped through a phaser was realized on the Triton Extreme. That was my way of improvising on the "smokepot, smokepot, everybody smokepot" chant from the original recording. Never got a chance to play it live... shame. Always one of those things when you get the bank of sound effects and you say "when and how the heck am I ever going to use these?" Well, there's a tip from your old pal tarkus!
  7. Will check this out. I have not experienced any glitches or tuning issues and I hope never
  8. rather than run through each of the banks or demonstrate the synthesis qualities I will try to do some musical applications. After all that is why I bought it. Maybe I will even crack the owners manual lol
  9. Apologies for the video quality. Literally unboxed it minutes before I made the video. I I will try to post video updates as I am now searching through the presets. happily, I can establish a set-list that would suit my live play needs rather than tell the guitarist and drummer : "Hey wait, I need to dial up a patch"! The set-list would eliminate the need to re-order the existing pre-sets as I had to do with the MEK as well as stuff I programmed on my own. I haven't scratched the surface but the next few weeks will be interesting. [video:youtube]
  10. The SYSEX file transferred, the MEK responded showing the OS updated successfully. I reconnected the PE Boards and the MEK was stuck in low pass filter mode and then ultimately went "bright". I gave up and will assume that after 15 years and a move to a tropical climate, it was time to let her go.... On the bright side, I was contacted by a KCer with an interest in not only the PE boards but the MEK for parts. we have a really good community here. Probably the best online forum I've ever participated in. Moving on, I ordered a Korg Prologue 8 as the new top-tier board.
  11. FWIW - If you plan on doing the PE Conversion, here are things you will need in addition to the DSI Recommendations: Before you do anything, update the OS. You will need an M-Audio UNO or something similar to execute the Sysex transfer. Do not buy a cheap USB to Midi. While a cheap USB to Midi may work for playing applications they suck when confronted with sysex data. M-Audio packages a Disc for driver installation. Seriously, I have three laptops in my home and none of them have disc drives... M-Audio has the applicable software on it's website. Tools: Soldering kit with a needle fine tip. you will need this to remove the two micro-processors that are the size of a gnat! Tweezers - steel em from your wife or your girlfriend. A sturdy pair of fashion tweezers (not the zircon encrusted variety of FZ lore) are far superior to the alloy tweezers that are usually in the soldering kits. Magnifying lens, the kind a jeweler or a watch repair uses with a reference light would be optimum. Not the handheld variety. If not, buy a pair of 1.5 to 2x power reading glasses. You will be glad you did. I had to stack my reading glasses to locate and perform the micro surgery. steady hands a must. lay off the coffee before you attempt this. a solder sucker or solder wick is a must to clear the playing field.
  12. I was a little harsh on DSI. I had some good times with the MEK. When it was operational, it was a great instrument. When I was without my Triton for a about 6-weeks (getting serviced) - I played nothing but the MEK. Changed my way of thinking in terms of synthesis and soloing. So I have DSI to thank for several years of synthesis re-education and monophonic appreciation. nothing lasts forever.
  13. Bumping an old thread: I am intrigued with the Prologue and may be opting for the Prologue 8 as opposed to the 16. For my needs, the 16 doesn't seem to add anymore headroom. Questions for Prologue owners: after months of playing, have your opinions changed? have there been any hardware or software issues that unexpectedly emerged? what aspects of the board have left you wanting? thanks in advance.
