  1. Apparently so. If you go to the Parts Express website you'll see that the Eminence Acoustinator CX2008 is no longer available.
  2. Motion Sound used stock Eminence Alpha speakers in the KP-100s keyboard amp which sounded bad and were easy to overload/burn out. I replaced mine with Eminence Betas which had a higher power rating and better tone - they have performed great. Not all Eminence speakers are alike. These are Eminence Acoustinator speakers. ...which have been discontinued. Note that Eminence Betas are the recommended replacement by Parts Express.

  4. I also posted this under "Shameless Plugs" but what the heck: It was 30 years ago that I created the live solo multimedia concert "Through The Black Hole - Esh in Concert" which was performed in planetariums. The album from that show is long out of print so I have posted it on Soundcloud. It is a project I am still very proud of both musically and technically, especially when you consider it was recorded in 1984 on a four-track recorder and sequenced with a Commodore 64 computer and a SCI SixTrak synth. Also featured was an Oberheim DX drum machine, a Korg Polysix, a Fender Rhodes and a Minimoog. I would invite you to relax, dim the lights, put on the headphones and enjoy "Through The Black Hole":
  5. This is the first synth I ever laid eyes on, circa 1974. When I was working for an instrument repair shop (2009) we saw several ARP Oddys come in for repair... we had to turn them away because we couldn't source the slider pots, which were prone to collect dust and grime. That could be an issue even with the new models. I like it but those cute sliders would be a concern.
  6. I guess this means no improvements to the SK overdrive sims yet?
  7. A different kind of Christmas song... my version of Gordon Lightfoot's "Song For A Winter's Night"
  8. Yes. I've been meaning to try other tubes in it because I understand the stock tubes are not that great but haven't gotten around to it yet. Update: I bought a set of ElectroHarmonix 12AX7 tubes to replace the stock SovTek tubes that came with the EH 2ube stereo preamp pedal. Didn't seem to make any difference. Try old 50's/60's era tubes. Is that what they use in the XK-3c? That's all I really want is my SK2 to sound like my old XK-3c. Tell Hammond I want an XK-3c tube preamp in a box.

  11. SK2 here with Motion Sound KP-500sn (stereo amp, no rotor). I've used real B3's with Leslies in the past and there is nothing better... having said that I find that reasonable compromises are not a problem, especially as I get older and more concerned about keeping my rig as simple as possible. I have not used the Vent but I am quite content with the SK2's internal sim and the SK2's pianos. I often use the upper manual for organ and the lower manual for AP or EP and I like to switch between them while soloing using both full keyboards, so having a single powerful stereo amp on stage that I can easily send one signal to the FOH just makes sense. The SK2's small footprint also really helps on small stages, so I use the SK2 by itself when sitting in with blues/rock bands and it functions as a compact multikeyboard rig. I use an ElectroHarmonix 2ube stereo tube preamp pedal with the SK2 which gives the tone just a bit more warmth and more kick to the output, but other than that I just run straight to the amp. Not to knock the Vent enthusiasts but adding anything else to my SK2+amp rig would just be redundant for me.
  12. Finally, after more than a year of trying, Hammond replaced my sorry SK2 carry bag. Their sales rep for the Southeast, Wendell Hartman came through. He told me that the Hammond-branded bag (retail: $229) had been discontinued and replaced by the Gator GKB-61 (retail: $89). The Gator bag does not have the Hammond name on it but it is superior to the old bag in every way: material, construction, and especially the zipper quality. It has more pocket room for pedals and stuff and it holds the keyboard better. If you need a lightweight carry bag for the SK2, i doubt you could find better than the GKB-61. For those who don't know, my saga with the SK2 bag started in Spring of last year when I got a free carry bag as a promotion from Hammond Suzuki that barely lasted six weeks of light use before the main zipper broke. Hammond sent a warranty replacement yesterday. Although the new bag is much less expensive than the old in retail price comparison, there is no comparison in quality... Gator is better.
  13. Ok, so let's try again... This is a picture that is being used by non-American websites as a new carry bag for the SK2. Is there any word of it coming to the US? Has it been improved over the original? http://images.thomann.de/pics/prod/281656.jpg While we're on the topic, I emailed Hammond customer support last year and this year (a couple of weeks ago) asking if a new SK2 carry bag was coming out while at the same time asking if there is any warranty on the original bag (the zipper on mine gave out after little more than a month). Never got an answer from H/S then or now. Anyone have any idea what it takes to get an answer from H/S support after one has tried diplomacy and patience?
  14. There was a brief mention in a press release recently that H/S is coming out with some new cases and bags for the SK1/SK2. Anyone have any details?
  15. I never deal with Sweetwater. They have sent me demo units and claimed they were new. I told them not to send candy with my order because it rattled around loose in the box, so some jerk in packaging opened my order and packed it full of candy before shipping it to me. I bought my SK2 from B3 Guys in Nashville... they are the Hammond pros.
