  1. Thanks for the responses everyone. It's clearly a tough choice; I think they're both top-notch and the question is simply which one would edge the other one out! I've got a couple more weeks before committing (2 more gigs worth!) I'm still keeping an open mind on both!
  2. I did a search and couldn't find anything specifically on this topic; if it's there, just kindly steer me in the direction. I'm trying to decide between Strymon's Big Sky and Night Sky for reverb. I know Big Sky has been a mainstay for keyboardists for years, but the Night Sky almost seems it was made to target keyboardists (I might be embellishing a little there ). I've watched several videos on both, even head-to-head, but I'd like to hear from keyboardists who have experience with both. I know the units are a little pricey, and there may not be a lot of people who have had both, but I thought I'd post to see if there was... Please note, I'm not in a position to try them out,so I need to hear the opinion of those who have.
  3. I think one of the arguments for being against the resale of CD's is there is no difference in sound quality (theoretically, of course) between a new CD and a used one. The difference between new and used vinyl, as well as tape, is that the medium experiences wear and tear. With no discernable difference of quality on CD's, there's no incentive for a buyer to purchase a new product compared to a used product. Back in the late eighties, the resale of used CD's was big...MUCH bigger than the resale of vinyl et. al. And it caught the attention of the record companies. You can imagine their attitude...But much of that talk has pretty much gone by the wayside, especially since sharing MP3's hit! Regarding .PDF's, some publishers include a PDF copy of their publication with an accompanied CD. (Or at least used; I don't know that many of them are doing that as much these days. And I'm not suggesting that Total Keyboard Wizardry does, because it doesn't. I bought mine from Amazon some months ago & know firsthand!) These .PDF's themselves aren't illegal, but they are subject to the same restrictions and protections as any other elctronic publication. So "sharing" the .pdf is just as illegal as making one up yourself and "sharing" it.
  4. No, it was Stevie Winwood who used the Nord Lead 3 in the eighties. Van Halen was known for using the Yamaha ES 7 on 1984 for "I'll Wait".
  5. I'm a newbie tobee (har har!). I've been on-line since on or about '86', and have been playing keys for over 20 years, though. The bands I've been in were mostly classic rock, although I was in an all-original band in the eighties where we wrote mostly progressive-type stuff. (We're using the low-cost modern technology that was unavailable back then to record many of these tunes. Early results are encouraging! I'll keep you posted.) My current rig consists of only an S-80, an Emu B3 and a DX-7. (I'm soon adding a EMu Vintage Pro Rom). Until recently, I sported 3 keyboards & 2 modulars, but retired most of that, at least temporarily, as the headbangers I play with don't need much more than pianos & oragns. At home, I have: Ensoniq Mirage, Casio CZ-101, Yamaha DX-21, Xasio AZ-1, Yamaha CP-10, EMu XL-1, Paia Fat Man, Kurzweil PX-1000.... that's all I can remember right now... I solo occasionally, and am thinking about pursuing that more...I'm also writing stuff at home & hope to release an Indie album in the next year or so... Married...two kids (8 & 9 right now)....Gig a few times a month...I exercise.....work for the governement....bored enough yet?
